Later, Judith would come to believe that he’d set her up. They’d spent the whole evening together, but not the night. Carefully, Judith had lain down on the couch, the carrot still inside her, her legs over Jeremy’s lap, and they had talked. Or rather, he had talked, laying down the rules for her. There were an inordinate amount of rules. He told her that he’d give them to her in writing the next day, but that she should listen to them now and be sure that she understood what she was committing to.
