Something changed between Jeremy and Judith after that night. It was difficult to identify, but there was an undeniable shift. Although she continued to dread the daily punishment, she found herself nonetheless glad to see Jeremy each day. He was warm and supportive, encouraging and congratulatory as her old work ethic returned, and somehow he seemed to see her as she had been at her best, despite all recent evidence to the contrary.
