Chapter 4 - Initiation and expectations

951 Words
Darius had been allowed to spend the rest of his 21st birthday with his mum before being ripped away from his home the very next day. His birthday had turned into a day of sadness, his mum cried a lot and in-between tears apologised over and over again. Apparently his mum had always known this day would come and although she had considered many times running away with Darius she knew the D.O.B.O.M would find them, they deemed him too important. Darius spent the night of his 21st in bed, wide awake. Should he flee, would they find him? What does being the destroyer mean and exactly who's he expected to destroy. Darius although skilled with weapons and fighting hadn't actually hurt anyone ever and he wasn't sure he wanted to start. None of this made sense. Vampires had killed his Dad and Grandpa, that's what the tall man had said but he couldn't get his head around that they were real. The thoughts went round and round mixed with his dream from last night, the men with the wierd faces. Darius was still awake when the first light of dawn broke through his curtains. They would be here soon for him and he didn't know how to stop them. Sitting at the kitchen table with his mum there was a wrap on the door, 9am on the dot as promised. Two tall men with hardly a word escorted him from the only life he had ever known and the only parent he had known for the last couple of years and dragged him out into the already blistering sun to a black range rover. Sitting in the back of the 4x4, Darius thought back to his mum and how they had dragged him away and bundled him into this car. She had been crying and screaming not to take him but the two guys that Darius had not seen before didn't stop or hesitate before shoving him into the back seat. All he could do was watch her break as they drove him away. It was like being in a movie. Darius had a blind fold applied roughly over his eyes and was told to, 'relax' and not 'make a scene that would end badly'. He had no idea what ending badly meant so he sat quietly, missing his mum, more confused than ever. No one spoke, not even a whisper as the 4x4 kept going and going, for what seemed like hours. Unable to keep track of what way the car was moving was disorientating and nauseating. There was to much time, to much silence for Darius to be lost in thoughts in his own head. What would the kids at College think had happened to him? Would his work miss him or would his mum or the D.O.B.O.M take care of his old life, would he be erased. Never important or outgoing enough to uave really registered in anyone's raider. Would people look for him? He regretted never really having a best friend or partner.....would he even be missed? Just another teenage dropout, a statistic that would go unchecked. How lonely had been his life and he had never really realised it before now. Tib sighed, it was as he had suspected. The buzzing, the headaches, the mental probing and now the message relayed to Witches coven all confirmed that something big, something bad and something dangerous was brewing. He looked over at Sid who was on his second slice of cake, the Witches knew them well, even on a night like tonight refreshments had been prepared and Fabrachina was one of the best bakers around. Frowning into his tea Tib could see that Sid was as shaken as him. The Destroyer...that's what the message had said. Somewhere in the back of his mind an alarm was ringing and Tib could see the same thing reflected in Sids eyes. Calling both Covens together had been a wise move, they would have to access the joint archives and it required both Gem and Tib to do so. They would also have to contact the other magic bearers to gain all groups permission from each leader to enter such a place. The archives stretched back to a time when magic was free and each group was not so guarded, secretive and suspicious of each other. All history resided there in books and was watched over by the air fairies who were voted in to take on the task as they are the most honest and trust worthy of all. Tib and Gem held back after the meeting with Fab and Sid lingering in the background. 'We will have to make contact with the other Bearers of magic. We need into the archives, the destroyer of magic means something to me, something I read in our history', Tib looked at Gems ashen face. 'I know we do', said Gem, 'but it has been so long since we last spoke and things are so different now. The vampires are only out for themselves, the werewolves keep to their own and the Fairies live in fear of being found, I am not sure they will grant us access'. 'Then we make them understand Gem, we go to them all individually, we explain the warning we have received. Even they cannot deny such a message from the spirit of one of your sisters who has left this plane'. 'I hope you are right Tib, we will need to prepare to travel to the other groups. School holidays are in two weeks, that is when we shall go. Tidy up all your affairs before we leave and be ready. This is not going to be easy'.
