Chapter 3

Contracted Girlfriend Sophia’s POV The next day was quite different. There were a lot of customers and it was really busy. Damien and I had a lot to do so there was no talking. “There was a special order. You have to deliver it yourself…” Kelvin entered the kitchen and told me. “But we have staff for deliveries. I am a chef,” I argued but from Kelvin’s facial expression, I could tell he was not having it. However, his reply was in a soft tone. “You will get paid twice the amount for the delivery. How does that sound?” Kelvin asked calmly. Well, it seemed even Kelvin knew I needed money. I accepted the offer instantly and prepared to deliver it myself. However, it appeared strange. I didn’t question it right until I arrived at the place I would deliver to. It was a company, a very well-known one at that. STYLE. Everyone knew them as a big family conglomerate. I figured that an employee there had ordered the food but there was no contact information given. In an awkward manner, I entered. It was a glamorous place and I walked to the receptionist’s table. “Excuse me…” I barely said. “The CEO is waiting for you, miss,” The receptionist told me. “Who is waiting for me?” I asked, unsure of what was happening here. “Mr. Grayson Style, the CEO of the company. I have been informed by him that you will be here for food delivery. Will you follow me, please?” The receptionist asked. I followed her, not knowing what to do. On getting to his door, she left, leaving me alone. I knocked and a familiar voice told me to enter. It was that strange man who visited the restaurant yesterday. He was Grayson Style, heir of the wealth and power of the Style’s family. He stood up to usher me in with a smile on his face. “Have a seat,” He offered. “No, thanks,” I replied. I was uncomfortable with the whole scenario. “I came for food delivery. I don’t need to be seated.” “I know,” He told me coolly. “The food was just an excuse to see you. I had to convince the restaurant’s manager to have you deliver the food. I had to pay triple, you know.” “You did that all because you wish to see me?” I asked surprisingly. “Right,” he responded naturally. “That was unnecessary,” I retorted. “If you wanted to see me, you could have come. Bringing me over here is not so cool.” “I… Well, let me go straight to the point,” Grayson went ahead. “I’m sorry but I have to leave now,” I interrupted. “Unlike you, I am not a young lady with a great family who doesn’t need to worry about money. I have to get back to the restaurant else my pay for the day might be deducted.” “You don’t need to,” Grayson replied. “I told your manager that you would be with me for the day. Your payment won’t be deducted at all. I took care of it already.” “And why would you do that for me? It is strange behavior,” I retorted. I had heard a lot about wealthy folks so I was scared. Who knows what he could do to me now that we were alone in his office? “If you would calm down for a second, I would explain everything…” He said calmly. “Also, I feel our conversation is on the wrong vibe. Why are you so defensive? I have no reason to hurt you.” I had no reply. “Are you uncomfortable here? We could step out for some coffee," he suggested. “No, let’s talk here. I’m ready to listen,” I said at last. He gestured with his hand to the sofa in his room. I sat down and he did too. “I think I might be fond of you,” he started out nicely. “I’m not in love with you though. There is no way I can ever be…” I was battling the desire to tell him that I wasn’t in love with him either. “However, you are not too bad. You are a solid four out of ten,” He said but not in a diminishing manner. “Am I supposed to be pleased?” I asked him dangerously. “It was a high score, Sophia,” He replied. “How do you know my name?” I asked, wondering if he was a stalker. “Your manager was kind enough to tell me,” He replied coolly. “About the score, you have everything except a killer body shape, wealth and connections and…” “Killer body shape?” I laughed hysterically. “I know I am gorgeous, Mr. Grayson. You cannot convince me otherwise.” “You are beautiful,” He replied, catching me off guard. “Your smile especially is a dangerous one. Men would kill to have you.” I was shy now and even more confused. Was he praising me or not? “What exactly do you want?” I asked. I had my suspicions already. His praise regarding my beauty gave me a few hints. “I’d like you to be my girlfriend,” He said in a calmness that surprised me. I averted his eyes, shy all of a sudden. I wasn’t expecting him to be this direct. “But we just met yesterday…” I said, dragging my words. “We should go on at least two dates to see if we would be compatible. I will check my schedule and see when I am free for a date. We can take it from there.” “You don’t get it,” He muttered. “Get what?” I asked. “I can’t be your girlfriend out of nowhere. My standards are, two dates before we are official. I don’t think it is that much anyway.” He had a sly smile across his face now. I didn’t avert his eyes anymore. “I want you as my contracted girlfriend,” He said, stunning me. “You will get paid for your services properly and I assure you, it would be more than what the restaurant pays you.” “Are you…” I held on. “…crazy?”
