The Kiss

1026 Words
She didn't want to kiss Jeff. She hadn't even kissed Karter when they were dating! She believed these kinds of stuff should be done after marriage. She didn't want to waste her first kiss on someone she wouldn't marry. And she would never marry Jeff for sure. Not even if he was the last man on earth. Not even if someone was holding a g*n on her head, and her life depended on this. After a long pause and receiving many strange looks from everyone, she finally spoke. "Guys, I don't really thi - " "What happened, Jeff? Is your girlfriend a chicken?" One of the boys said, making Jeff roll his eyes at him, and the rest of the people laugh. Jessica couldn't stand three things in her life. Her loved ones hurt, Jeff, and someone making fun of her her. And that boy had just done that. Jeff spoke up. "Shut up if there is anyone who - " Before he could complete his sentence, Jessica grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and kissed him on the lips. At that instant, everyone just looked at them wide-eyed with their mouths also wide opened. No one dared to grab Jefferson Lee and kiss him like this. Not that he had kissed anyone, but even if he did, nobody would dare to kiss him like that. And there he was. Being pulled and kissed by Jessica. The only person who dared to do that so far. Among all of them, Jefferson was the one who was more shocked. He was just standing there wide-eyed, frozen like a statue, looking at her. This kiss may have lasted for only a few seconds, but for most people there, it lasted much more than that. Only when she broke the kiss was when he regained his senses. And at that moment, they both locked eyes for a moment, blushing, before looking away from each other. "Ok... I take it back. She's not a chicken at all..." The same boy said with a voice sounding more like a whisper. Jessica was satisfied with the last comment. At least her actions hadn't been in vain. "What the hell?!" Everyone turned to look at the person who said that. Karter. The same Karter Lee. Jefferson's brother. Jessica's dumbass ex-boyfriend. If she thought that kissing Jeff could ruin her night, then Karter was the. that was the icing on the cake. "JEFF I'M ASKING AGAIN, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!" At this moment, nobody dared to speak or even make a sound. Most of them knew what had happened. They knew Jessica had broken up with Karter, but even fewer people knew the reason. "Why do you care?" Jessica turned and rolled her eyes at him. "What do you mean?! You literally just kissed my brother! You just cheated on me!" "I did not cheat on you. The last time I checked, I had broken up with you. You're just my ex now, so I have every right to kiss whoever I want whenever I want." "I - " Karter couldn't talk back. She was right. She had indeed broken up with him. But kissing his own brother was just too much. "But you hadn't even kissed me when we were dating. You said you wanted to kiss the man you would surely marry. Are you planning on marrying my brother or something?!" "This is none of your business! I will marry whoever I want. Why don't you just go back to Scarlett and leave me alone?!" "So you still don't believe me that I didn't cheat on you? Fine! So be it." Then he turned to loom at his brother. "And don't think I will let you off the hook so easily." Saying that, he fianlky walked away. "Let's just continue to play like nothing happened." They played other games for the rest of the party like nothing happened. They thought that after what had happened just now, playing spin the bottle didn't seem like the best idea. Jessica tried to avoid talking to Jeff as much as possible all the time. He didn't talk much to her, either making it easier for her. Perhaps he was embarrassed by what she did. When it was time to leave, they greeted the group and made their way to Jeff's car. The ride was irritably quiet. Not because of the reason the previous rides were quiet. But because of the kiss. Jessica herself couldn't believe she did that. She was hoping all that happened was just a nightmare, and she would wake up anytime soon. But it felt too real. So she just wished that the earth could open and shallow her whole. Reaching her house, they just bid goodbye and followed their separate ways. Jessica unlocked the door and flopped on the couch right after she entered the house. "Hey... are you okay?" Harry talked after a long time. "Not really..." Jessica covered her eyes with both her hands, not even wanting to open them. "I'm sorry for what happened." "You shouldn't be the one apologising. It's not your doing." "Well, still. I know better than anyone how you feel right now." She let her hands fall to each of her sides and her head back. "I just can't believe that I did that. How could I do it? I literally hate him more than anyone in the world." "That boy had called you a chicken. Your pride is, of course, more important than your emparassment of a stupid, meaningless kiss with Jeff." "I guess you're right. But I just wasted my very first kiss on him. I am probably his hudredth kiss or something." Harry tried to find comforting words but failed. In the end, he said, "Okay, look, you are neither the first nor the last person who has kissed someone who will not marry. So please calm down and don't worry about it." "I'm really trying..." In the next moment, her phone started ringing. They looked at the caller ID to see it was Flora calling. "Hey, are you back yet? How did it go?" "My life is over..."
