The Party

1047 Words
The next morning, Jessica woke up and did her morning routine. After she ate her breakfast, she decided to call Flora to tell her the news about the party. "Hello?" "Hey, I didn't wake you up, did I?" "No, don't worry, I woke up an hour ago." "I- anyway. You will never guess what happened yesterday!" "How about you tell me then?" "... Anyway, yesterday Jeff came over at my house and - " "OH MY GOD! WHAT DID YOU DO?!" "Remember that favor I owed him from the bet I lost? He told me that I have to be his date at a party his friend is hosting." "Oh... Yes, and?" "Well, he took me shopping to buy a new dress or whatever. And I even have to pretend to be his girlfriend because he said to his friend that he will bring his freaking girlfriend! Like he couldn't say he would bring a random girl, he had to say girlfriend!" "Really? But, why you from all the girls?" "I asked him the exact same question, and he never answered me..." "We'll never know then, I guess." "He must have done it to annoy me. He really likes messing with me." "Yeah, maybe..." "Flora, why do I feel like you know something more than me...?" "Nah, it's probably your imagination." "Right... anyway today is the party and I don't know what to do... I really don't want to go." "You don't really have many choices, though, do you?" Jessica sighed, "No... Why always me?" Then she noticed a notification on her phone. "Speaking of the devil..." "What?" "Jeff, send a message. The party is at six in the afternoon, I'll pick you up..." "How romantic!" "Ewwww! If you don't shut up, I'll come and smack you..." She heard Flora laugh through the other end of the phone. "Sorry, sorry." "For laughing with my pain? You better be." "Come on. It can't be that bad. He just took you shopping yesterday and you will have to go to a party with him today in the afternoon. And pretent to be his girlfriend. But it can't be so bad. What could go wrong?" "No, don't say that. Whenever someone says that, something definitely goes wrong." "That only happens in movies. This is real life we're talking about." "And that's the worst part..." "Don't overreact. It's not like they are going to ask guys to kiss." "Oh my God, you think they will? I'm not kissing that jerk! He can kiss my foot if he wants!" They both laughed at that statement and chatted a bit more before hanging up. It was only ten in the morning. She had only eight hours to prepare herself for what would happen at that party. She couldn't help but think if she was actually overreacting. 'It's just a party, after all. I've been to tons of parties before. It can't be any different except that Jeff will be there. It's just a part Jess, calm down.' She thought, trying to calm her nerves. She decided to spend the day like any other day, and before she even noticed, it was already four-thirty in the afternoon. "It's already four-thirty. I have to start getting ready." "Don't worry, Jess, everything will go well." Harry tried to reassure her. "I hope so." "If it makes you feel better, I'll be there too." "To see my embarrassment?" She cried. "You'll be just funny. No embarrassing stuff or anything." Jessica started getting ready. First, she put on her makeup, then she put on the dress Jeff had bought for her and tied up her strawberry blonde hair in a braid. Just then, Jeff arrived, and Jessica came out to go with him. "Finally ready, Princess?" "Stop calling me that! And it's not like you have been waiting here for too long." "It doesn't matter. Ready for the party?" "No. I don't even know why I agreed to do this. Oh, right! You forced me." "I didn't put a g*n on your head, did I?" "I - " She was left speechless. "Whatever. I didn't have any other choice anyway." The ride was silent for once again. When they arrived at the place, they headed straight inside. It was a big restaurant and Jeff's friend had booked it for the party for the whole afternoon and evening. "Hey, Jeff! Finally showed up, I see." Dylan waved at Jeff and walked towards him. "That's the girl you were talking about, huh?" He winked at Jeff, which seemed a bit suspicious for Jessica. "Yup, my girlfriend, Jessica." He smirked and put his arm around Jessica as she secretly rolled her eyes. "Well, hello there. I'm Dylan, Jeff's best friend." He held out his hand for Jessica to shake. She shook hands with him as she greeted him back. "Let's get going. The group is waiting for us. We're playing spin the bottle. Are you in?" Jeff and Jessica exchanged amused looks. Spin the bottle, seriously? When things couldn't get any worse... "Sure we are!" They walked over the others as Jessica was continuously glaring at Jeff, wishing she could kill him or just die at the spot. There was no way she could play. She wouldn't just kiss a random boy like that. She, especially, couldn't kiss Jeff. There was no way she was doing that. But he had already agreed, so she couldn't really back out now... When she thought that was the worst thing that could happen at that party, she saw the only two empty spots were one next to the other. That meant she would have to sit next to Jeff, which meant she would have to spend her whole time at that party sitting right next to that idiot... When they started the game, everything was normal. No bottle had landed on her or Jeff, so that was a good sign. Ten minutes into the game, it was Jeff's turn to spin the bottle. He extended his hand to grab and spin it. While it did, Jessica's heart beat quickened, so much that she never thought was possible. As it gradually decreased its speed, it did one more circle before the top of the bottle landed right at her. Screw her life. Just screw it...
