Back with the Lee family
Karter was making a fuss about the break-up message Jessica sent him, while his parents were trying to defend her and calm him down.
Lillian, his mother, continued to defend her, "You must have done something to her, son. Jessica is a really nice girl. She doesn't do things like that for no reason."
"Well then, I guess she finally showed her true colors!" Karter said, the frustration in his voice clear.
Then his father, Michael, added, "Stop worrying so much about it, okay? Just try to make up for whatever you did. She loves you enough to forgive you. Just apologize to her and make it up to her somehow."
"No! You know what? Why should I be the one to make the first move? If she actually loves me like you say, she should come back on her own." He rolled his eyes in irritation and continued, "I have every right to confront her about bullying Scarlett. If she's getting all angry about it, then it's her problem only!"
Jeff was standing a little further from them, leaning onto the wall, listening to his brother complaining and his parents' protests. He couldn't help but sigh and wonder, 'Seriously, what is wrong with this guy? Jessica has the problem now?'
Ever since their childhood and Karter had a problem, his parents were always the first ones he would turn to. Even though Jeff was the favorite child of his family, Karter was younger, and they still loved him, so they couldn't just let him down.
He would never complain about Jessica in the past. He always said she was the best girl he had ever met and claimed he loved her.
Until all of this changed.
Now, here he was, complaining for once again about her. And all because of that Scarlett girl.
Finally, Lillian and Michael were tired of their Karter's attitude and decided to get help from their first son. Lillian tried to signal him, hoping he could do something.
Hopefully, he got the meaning and nodded in response, but they didn't like what he retorted next.
Looking at his brother, he said, "You know what? You're right. She's not worth it. Just let her go if she continues to be like that."
His parents were left utterly speechless upon hearing this, since they were trying hard to defend Jessica a few moments ago and now, Jeff was siding with his brother, agreeing with him, even pursuing him to leave her.
Karter looked at his brother with a hint of relief in his eyes. "Finally, someone agrees with me. You two just love Jessica too much to even care about me. Am I not your son? What is Jessica to you?"
Already tired of this situation, his mother replied as calmly as she could, "Jessica is like a daughter to us Karter. We have seen her grow up with you and have known her for her whole life. We know her even better than her own parents!"
His father then added, "How can you not see it, Karter? They are the bad ones. Scarlett is too competitive with her because she wants her family's love all for herself while trying to make them, and you hate Jessica. She is constantly falsely accusing her of things she has never done, and you all keep on believing her."
"Enough, dad! Stop spouting nonsense! Scarlett would never do such things to anyone, especially to Jessica! They've known each other for way too long, but Jessica suddenly had the brilliant idea to get their live by bullying Jessica. I do love her, but if she continues to be like this, I don't think I want to be with such a person."
And with that said, he started walking back to his room, ending the conversation.
Jeff then talked to his parents, "Mom, dad, don't worry about him. He will just keep on believing everything Scarlett says."
His mother looked at him. "I know, but it's worth a shot. You yourself know how kind and well-mannered Jessica is. She would never do all those things Scarlett claims she did."
He looked down, pausing for a moment. "Of course I know. It's a pity my brother doesn't see that too." He looked back at them and continued, "But since she already broke up with him, I'm certain she won't take it back."
After saying that, he headed to the door.
"Won't you stay over tonight?"
"I jave some matters I need to attend at this moment."
Then he headed towards the door and made his way out of their house.
"What will we do with these kids? They both have love problems. I don't know what to do to help them. What are we going to do, Michael?"
Michael sighed and replied, "I don't know, but I don't think they will really need our help. At least Jeff, who is mature. I'm certain he can figure it out on his own without our help." He paused for a brief moment and continued, "The only one I am worried about is Karter, though. He and Jessica used to be so close in the past, and now they got separated because of Scarlett. And the worst part is that he can't see through her like we do. Maybe Jeff is right. She might not forgive him after all."
"Maybe she won't. We can't force her to do so. And she has every right not to. It is him to blame only."
Back with Jeff
He was on his limousine on his way back to his mansion when he got a phone call.
He picked it up and saw the caller ID before answering.
"Hey, Jeff. How's it going?"
"Hey, Dylan. Pretty good so far."
Dylan Benson has been his best friend since childhood. They got along well all over the years, and they trusted with their secrets. Dylan even knows the exact reason why Jeff has been acting like this with Jessica.
"I'm glad. Do you remember the party I would be holding?"
"What about it?" He raised an eyebrow as he remembered it.
Dylan spoke, teasing him, "Well, it's next week. And you need to bring a date. So are you going to bring her with you as your date like you told me?" He chuckled.
"Yes." He simply responded, shocking his friend on the other side of the call.
He was momentarily surprised before he asked, "Will she agree? I mean, she never really seemed to like you. How will you convince her?"
He smiled after remembering what had happened and chuckled. Then he said, "She has to agree to do it. She owes me a favor after all."
