A F**ked up day

Zander’s POV I was at the hospital pacing up and down the hall waiting for some news on my brother when my parents rushed in. “Son, what the Hell happened here and why didn’t you call us to tell us something happened to your brother. We left him in your care after I  stepped down from being the CEO of the company. You promised me you had things under control.” “Dad, how could you blame this bulls**t on me? I was not there when he got shot. Don’t you think I have been beating myself up enough over the situation? Zack is a grown-ass man who keeps making bad decisions. How can you stand here and accuse me of not doing what I am supposed to do? Ever since I was a kid, I have been forced to learn the ends and  outs of the business and excel at everything on top of looking out for Zack. When I turned eighteen and you got sick, you handed me a billion-dollar corporation and expected me to do everything perfectly. I was never allowed to make any mistakes because you would jump on my ass if I did. But your precious Zack was always getting into something, and you would just sweep it under the rug. That is how he became the pretentious brat that he is. I am worried about my little brother and why the Hell somebody tried to kill him, but I damn sure will not let you pin this on me.” “Son, your father is just upset about Zack. Don’t be too harsh on him, especially with his condition.” “Mother, you know father never listens to anyone if he continues to get his treatments when he first gets diagnosed with cancer. Maybe they could have contained it before it spread. I am glad we had the resources to get him the medical attention that he needed but he is still sick. I am doing the best I can, trying to be strong for everyone, but what about me? Does my feelings even matter to either of you?” “Zander, stop it. You know we love you and are here if you ever need us, so stop being so dramatic.” “Dramatic. After all that, I just said, this is how you respond. You know what mother, how about going over there and sitting with your husband while we wait for the doctor to tell us if Zack is OK.” As if the doctor read my mind, he walked into the waiting area with the results. “Mr. Meyers, your brother is going to be fine. He has a long road ahead of him before he fully recovers from his injuries. We extracted a total of four bullets from his body. Somebody wants him dead! He should be out of the recovery area in fifteen minutes and you can all go in and see him.” “ Thank you doctor for everything.” After the doctor left, I sat there silently thinking about who could have done this and why. The 15 minutes seemed to creep by, but finally, my mother stood up and told me and my dad to follow her. My brother was a bruised and bandaged mess. He had a black eye swollen shut, his jaw bruised like a huge purple bruise, there were bandages everywhere from where he had been shot. It is truly a miracle that he survived being shot so many times. I could not bear to see him like that, so I left the hospital and drove him away. The whole situation felt so unrealistic. Once I parked my car in the garage and went into the house, I started looking for my phone. I know Tiffany and Brad were probably wondering where I had been. I picked it up and saw that I had sixty missed calls and one hundred text messages. Before I could even start to read my text, the phone rang, “Hello.” Zander, where the f**k have you been? We have been calling you all day.” My brother got shot four times and is in the hospital. They needed me to sign some paperwork just in case he did not make it out of the surgery alive. I was in such a rush that I forgot my phone. What happened ? Did Brad find anything out about the waitress?” “Boss, I don’t know how to tell you this but Allie the waitress has been kidn*pped. Brad followed them to the area where they were keeping her. There were a lot of people guarding the property, so he didn’t want to make any moves without you.” Tell him to stand down for now and to send me the location.” Will do boss and I hope your brother will be OK.” “Thanks goodbye.” When I got off the phone with Tiffany, I knew it was time to call in some reinforcements. First my brother gets shot, then the girl I am investigating gets kidn*pped. ugh what a f**king day. I pace the floor trying to calm down before I call the one person I know will be willing to help me with this madness. “Siri calls Derek.” “Calling Derek now.” The phone rings and rings. I forgot he and Macy were just getting back from their second honeymoon. Right when I was about to give up, he finally answers. “Yeah.” “I need you and the family's family's help, somebody put a hit out on my little brother. “ “Clearly, somebody has a death wish. Meet me at your office in thirty minutes.”
