She should have known better than to expect anything else from him. They stepped into the car a few minutes later, the silence between them thick but not entirely uncomfortable. Vincent worked on his phone while Ariana stared out the window, her fingers tracing small patterns on her lap. Finally, she decided to break the silence knowing that if she left him to himself, he would never address the elephant in the room. “You know,” she began, “usually people give compliments on occasions like this.” He didn’t look up. “Do they?” “Yes,” she said firmly. “They do.” He raised an eyebrow, still focused on his screen. “You’re not my wife yet.” She scoffed. “Don’t even start with that.
