Chapter 40

"The whole celebration will be canceled for three days and I can't believe that my daughter is in a horrible state. She hasn't woken up in days and it makes me worried." Lily said before caressing her daughter's hair. Winston looked at the six other students sitting at the infirmary's bed. Lady Marionette put them under Lily's observation due to the injuries that some of them have. Freddy, Mattheo, and Julius are distracting themselves by playing while Zachary and Kellion are observing the oblivious girl. She's been unconscious for days after the incident and hasn't woken up yet. "It's unexpected, Mrs. Chivalry. The barrier that prevents the monsters from the valley entering. So far, Lady Marionette and the five universities' administrations are investigating that matter." Zachary explains. Lily haves a deep breath then leaned on her daughter's bed, "Those barriers cannot be destroyed just by the raw monster's strength or any type of magic but still, it's a mystery that those monsters disappeared on their own and leave no trace." "We're the only team who got left in the field after the five teams evacuated. We are looking for her everywhere but she's out of sight." Lily glanced at Kellion then give him a lopsided smile, "Those wounds are not from any monster or some debris from the explosion. I know that because my magic cannot heal it." "More like something beyond that," "What do you mean, Zachary?" "I can't explain it completely but I think it's something beyond that, Mr. Winston." "Tell Mr. Winston about that, Kellion. Salem is not here." "Her familiar is injured too. Primordial spirits are also the spirits coming from the depths of Devaiah are strong rather than those nature spirits that wander around. Because of their strong magic, they cannot be injured easily, and their core cannot be shattered." Kellion paused, "Primordial spirits are often can be a weapon spirit if the wielder and spirit both have mismatched energy, it harms both. In their case, their core is annihilated. Two terrible results might occur. First, the wielder can't use their magic anymore, and second, the contract that they sealed may get destroyed." "I'm sorry if I'm going to say this but, seems like both of them are just standing in a narrow soil." He added before turning away in bitterness. Zachary let out a small yet menacing growl. He probably hates what the harpy beside him says. "We haven't met her familiar before but we know it's a spirit. We want to talk to him about what happened to both of them. I also need to confirm if I can fix their cores." "Mr. and Mrs. Chivalry, I know someone who can do that but I don't think that someone would agree," Zachary and Kellion looked at each other, causing Kellion to laugh nervously. "Who's that someone that you're talking about?" "Kellion and Salem." "Why me? Salem can only do that." Four of them looked at the empty, unwrinkled Salem's bed beside them. None of them have a clue where'd she goes, not even her brother. "Don't deny, Lancelot." "It's not like I'm against your idea. I'm not certain if I can do that. Familiars can be only summoned by their owners." He stood up and started to rummage on the drawer beside Mira's bed. "What are you doing?" "If I'm not mistaken, Mira has a gun. Can I know where is it Mr. Chivalry?" "What are you going to do with that? It's on the last drawer." "Thanks, Mrs. Chivalry." Kellion takes out the golden gun. He placed it beside its owner. He looked at them, "Can you go outside for a while?" "S-Sure." Lily stood up. She gave a sign to them to leave. Zachary and others leave the room. After the door slammed shut, the ma make sure that one is there aside from both of them before he stared at the girl. He closed his eyes as brushed his finger against the gun. "Keeper of time, sentinel of timelines, first son of the universe and the Sun Goddess, Solera. Hear thy plea, come out and give me answers." He opens his eyes after the warmth touched his fingertips. The golden gun shed a glow. The light instantly severs from Mira's gun and turned into a figure of a man. "Lady Mira.." Ellistal muttered the girl's name under his breath before he passed out. Kellion moved swiftly and held his arm to prevent him from falling. Wounds are scattered around his body and his clothes are torn apart with patches of blood. "Guys! You can enter now!" He yelled as he lifted the spirit then placed him on Salem's bed. Mira's parents rushed to them without any hesitation. She's too worried, Winston noticed it despite it's not written all over her face. "This guy." He scanned his daughter's familiar. Zachary and Kellion nodded, "He is your daughter's familiar, Mr. Chivalry." "Both of them take serious injury." Silence surrounds them when her mother speaks up. Lily placed her hand on the top of Ellistal's forehead and took deep breaths. Her hand burned green but without a second or two, she pulled away. "How is it?" Winston asked. She looked away in bitterness and recklessly sits on her chair, "I can't. It's worst than I'm expecting. I can't heal their wounds completely." Lily tried to hold back her tears that will burst anytime. However, it betrays her. 'This is my punishment, isn't it? I dragged her to my mess and now she's suffering.' Zachary exits the place in silence and went to the place away from them. He caused too much trouble. He can't bear watching Mira or either her parents in pain because of his trouble. 'I shouldn't be nonchalant.' The shifter hugged his knees in the gloom. He selflessly stared at the sunlight peeking through the trees. Silence of the atmosphere somehow gives serenity to him. He chooses to be calm than spread the rage. "You get more stupid than you look." Zachary runs his sleeve on his eyes and gathered himself. He leaned on his sleeping familiar with a casual smile. Salem's brows almost knotted into a row as she gets her eyes glued on his face, "Yeah, utterly and completely stupid. Why are you crying anyways?" "Drop dead. I'm not crying. Where'd you go? We make Kellion called Mira's familiar since you're out of the sight." "Ha! Says by your runny nose and red eyes. She hasn't woken up yet, isn't she?" Salem sits under Blizzard's wing where she can stay under the temporary shade. Zachary glanced at her then burry half of his face in his arms, "Yeah. Worst case scenario. How are the other teams anyway? Three of you got half of them wiped out." "Don't know." "I thought you went out to check them?" "You know that I don't infringe with other people. I don't know them either so why I should bother anyways?" "I'll better ask my sisters. They give better answers than you." "Because I'm not your sister. That's it." "Seriously, how did Kellion handle you?" Zachary turned at her in annoyance, "You speak like both you didn't grow up together." "Correction, Zachary. It's both of you and not we." Salem crossed her arms. Visibly making herself undefeatable than the older one near her, "I grow up separating myself from all of you." "Explains why you're hostile and doesn't have any friends." "I don't need friends. I live myself alone without help from that friend that you're saying." "But still, we are trying to talk to you and I'm amazed how your brother can tolerate you." "Did you forget about the birds with the same feathers, stay together? Not to mention, Lancelot got more attitude than me." "You got a point. He's always grumpy." Blizzard stood up and walks away from them. Zachary almost hits his back against the ground after his support is not present behind him anymore. Salem moves to the shadier part. The dragon covered up his head on the bush. Knowing that what happens next will shake him up from his slumber. If he can only converse with them in their language, he will tell them to stop. "So as you." "Weird." "Flirty old man." "Bird brain." "Hound." "Livestock." "Laughing stock." "Undead bird." "Stalker and nightcrawler." "You smelled like Mattheo." "You smelled like a swine." "Lighter." "Crybaby." "Emotionless." "Hopeless romantic." "Hey, that's a foul!" "It's not a foul. I'm playing fair here." Zachary narrows his eyes at Salem and shook his head; acknowledging his defeat, "Fine." He takes the rock beside him then tosses it away. "I have news that you'll like." He raised a brow after the girl said that. His eyes flashed into blazing gold. Frost started to crawl on the ground by the king's excitement. Salem touches the ground, causing the frost to evaporate. She whisks away the lukewarm water then turned at the alpha. "I found who's the brats who destroyed the barrier that day. I'm sure that they know something regarding that incident."
