Love and lies

Chapter Ten – Love and Lies The morning after Daniel’s birthday celebration was unusually quiet. Amanda arrived at her fashion studio feeling happier than she had in weeks. The memories of the previous night—the laughter, the music, and Daniel’s heartfelt gratitude—filled her with hope. She placed her sketchbook on the table and smiled as she looked at the silver heart-shaped keychain Daniel had given her months earlier. Beside it lay the dried rose petals and the white rose from Mrs. Rose. Together, they reminded her that every stage of their relationship had been built on trust. Meanwhile, Daniel met Benjamin at the construction site. “I’ve found something,” Benjamin said, handing him a folder. Daniel carefully opened it. Inside were invoices bearing his forged signature. Someone had approved expensive building materials that had never been delivered. “This could ruin my career,” Daniel said quietly. Benjamin nodded. “But I also found security footage. Whoever forged these documents wasn’t you.” Daniel felt a wave of relief. “Then we finally have proof.” “Not enough to expose the mastermind,” Benjamin replied. “We need one more piece of evidence.” Across town, Vanessa sat in her office, waiting for the mysterious man who had been following Amanda and Daniel. The door opened. A tall man stepped inside wearing a black suit. “My name is Victor Hale,” he introduced himself. “I’ve done everything you asked.” He placed several photographs on Vanessa’s desk. They showed Amanda and Daniel together at the charity gala, the birthday celebration, and walking through the park. Vanessa smiled coldly. “Excellent.” Victor leaned forward. “What do you want me to do next?” Vanessa looked at one photograph before replying. “Break their trust.” That evening, Amanda received an anonymous envelope. Inside were photographs of Daniel talking with Olivia at a café. There was also a typed note. “Some people never change.” Amanda stared at the pictures. Although she remembered Daniel’s explanation, the anonymous message unsettled her. Before she could react, her phone rang. It was Daniel. “Hi,” he said cheerfully. “Would you like to have dinner tonight?” Amanda looked at the photographs again. “Yes… I’d like that.” She decided she would ask him directly instead of believing anonymous messages. At dinner, Amanda placed the envelope on the table. “I received this today.” Daniel examined the photographs. “I’ve seen Olivia twice since she returned. Both meetings were about work.” “I believe you,” Amanda said. Daniel looked surprised. “You do?” Amanda smiled softly. “I promised I would ask you before believing rumors.” Daniel reached across the table and held her hand. “Thank you.” Hidden near the restaurant window, Victor quietly lowered his camera. His plan had failed. The following day, Mrs. Rose invited Amanda and Daniel to help prepare flowers for the town’s annual Hope Festival. As they arranged colorful bouquets together, Mrs. Rose smiled. “Flowers teach us an important lesson.” Daniel looked up. “What lesson?” “The strongest flowers are the ones that survive heavy rain.” Amanda smiled. “Just like love.” Mrs. Rose nodded. “Exactly.” Later that afternoon, Lucas rushed into Daniel’s office. “You need to see this.” He handed Daniel a newspaper. The front page headline read: LOCAL ARCHITECT ACCUSED OF FINANCIAL FRAUD Daniel’s face turned pale. Someone had leaked false information before the investigation was complete. Outside the office, reporters had already begun gathering. Benjamin looked worried. “This is exactly what the real culprit wanted.” Daniel took a deep breath. “I’ve done nothing wrong.” Amanda arrived moments later. Without saying a word, she stood beside Daniel and took his hand in front of the reporters. One journalist asked loudly, “Miss Collins, do you believe these accusations?” Amanda looked directly into the cameras. “I believe the truth.” Daniel turned toward her, overwhelmed by her unwavering faith. But across the street, Vanessa watched the scene from inside her car. She smiled. “The game isn’t over yet.” She reached into her handbag and removed a sealed document. “If this secret becomes public,” she whispered, “their love will never survive.”
