Chapter Seven – Lucas Returns
The photograph of Daniel and Olivia spread through Silver Creek faster than anyone expected. By the next morning, whispers filled cafés, offices, and even the town market.
Amanda sat quietly in her fashion studio, staring at her phone. She wanted to believe Daniel, yet the rumors kept echoing in her mind.
Just then, Grace walked in carrying breakfast.
“You haven’t eaten.”
“I’m not hungry.”
Grace sat beside her.
“Have you talked to Daniel?”
Amanda shook her head.
“No.”
“Then don’t let strangers tell you the story that only Daniel can explain.”
Amanda nodded slowly. She knew her sister was right.
Meanwhile, Daniel was completely unaware of the gossip. He spent the morning showing Olivia around the new community housing project.
“I’ve missed working with you,” Olivia said.
Daniel smiled politely.
“It’s good seeing an old friend again.”
Olivia hesitated before speaking again.
“I heard you’re seeing someone.”
“I am.”
Her smile faded slightly.
“She must be very special.”
Daniel looked toward the houses they were building.
“She is. Amanda has changed my life.”
Olivia forced a smile, hiding her disappointment.
That evening Daniel went to Amanda’s studio with a bouquet of red roses.
Amanda welcomed him inside, but there was sadness in her eyes.
“I saw the picture.”
Daniel sighed.
“I was hoping you’d ask me before believing the rumors.”
“I wanted to… but I was afraid.”
Daniel gently took her hands.
“Olivia is only a university friend. She returned to Silver Creek for a short project. That’s all.”
Amanda searched his face.
“Nothing more?”
“Nothing.”
Relief washed over her.
“I’m sorry.”
Daniel smiled warmly.
“You never have to fight your fears alone. Talk to me.”
Amanda hugged him tightly.
“I promise.”
Across town, Vanessa learned that her latest plan had failed.
She slammed a file onto her desk.
“Why won’t they break apart?”
Her assistant remained silent.
Vanessa looked out the window.
“If lies don’t separate them, perhaps the truth from someone’s past will.”
Later that week, Lucas invited Amanda to a small charity concert where Ethan was performing.
Amanda accepted and invited Daniel along.
The concert filled the town square with music and laughter. Ethan’s voice echoed beautifully through the evening air, earning loud applause from the crowd.
After the performance, Lucas stood before everyone.
“I want to thank the people who taught me what real love means.”
He looked toward Amanda and Daniel.
“Sometimes loving someone means accepting their happiness, even if it isn’t with you.”
The audience applauded.
Amanda smiled gratefully.
After the concert she approached Lucas.
“Thank you.”
Lucas smiled.
“I meant every word.”
Daniel shook his hand.
“I know that wasn’t easy.”
Lucas laughed softly.
“No. But it was the right thing.”
For the first time, the tension between the two men disappeared, replaced by mutual respect.
As the night came to an end, Mrs. Rose handed Amanda a small lavender flower.
“Lavender represents peace,” she said. “Keep it close whenever life becomes confusing.”
Amanda carefully placed it beside the white rose and Daniel’s silver heart keychain.
Her collection of memories was growing, each one reminding her that love required trust more than perfection.
But while Amanda and Daniel’s relationship grew stronger, danger was quietly approaching.
Benjamin Cole, Daniel’s colleague, arrived with troubling financial records that suggested someone inside Reed Construction was secretly sabotaging Daniel’s projects.
Daniel had no idea that the investigation would lead directly to Vanessa—and place both his career and his relationship with Amanda in jeopardy.
