CHAPTER 10

When I opened my eyes, I was in the middle of a vast field. I looked around but found no one. The field seemed to have no ending as I began to walk. Kaleb. I have to find Kaleb. I continued to walk and walk, but no matter how far I'd walked, I still couldn’t seem to find the end of this field. “You seemed lost, little girl.” A voice said. It’s the voice of a man. For some reason, I felt like I'd already heard that voice from somewhere. I turned around but didn’t find anyone. I looked around in hopes of finding somebody but still failed. “Who are you? Where am I?” The man who couldn’t be seen chuckled. “Don’t worry, Ellie. I have already found you.” “What are you talking about? Show yourself!” I grew impatient as I kept on looking for whatever or whoever I might find. Kaleb should be here. He’ll come for me, I know that. Suddenly, there was a strong wind and I had to crouch down to keep myself from tumbling on the grass. It lasted for a minute and when it stopped, I saw a familiar figure standing a few feet away from where I was. Kaleb! I knew he would come for me. I quickly ran to him. “Kaleb! There you are!” When he turned out, my feet came to an abrupt stop. It wasn’t Kaleb. The scar on his face was familiar. It’s the same scar that I saw on the man in the old mansion. He smiled upon seeing me. And it was not the warm and friendly smile I got used to. There was pure evil in his expression and when he smiled wider, his fangs showed on display. “It’s an honor to finally meet you, Ellie.” He said. “Now, it’s time to get you.” I woke up with a jolt. I was sweating and catching my breath. A little panicky, I looked around and realized I was lying on my bed. I thrashed as I felt a hand grab me. “No! Stay away from me!” “Ellie, it’s okay. It’s Kaleb. Relax, it’s me. Look at me.” He grabbed my face so I could look at him. I cupped his face in my hands and when I realized that it was really Kaleb, I threw myself at him and wrapped my arms around him. “Oh god, Kaleb! I’m so scared. I saw a man. I have seen him twice already. He’s the same man from the old mansion.” “Shh, it’s okay.” Kaleb pacified me while rubbing my back. “I’m right here. I won’t let anyone hurt you.” When I finally calmed down, Kaleb stood up to fetch me a glass of water. I studied it for a moment as I remembered the water in the fountain. Shaking the thoughts out of my head, I chugged down almost half of the water in the glass before I put it down on my bedside table. Kaleb sat down beside me. I could still feel myself shaking. I couldn’t forget about the scarred face of that man from the old mansion and my dream. “Tell me what happened, Ellie.” Kaleb reached for my hand and caressed it lightly. “Lia called in panic. She said that you were hearing voices coming from the old mansion. The guards only remembered seeing fog and then you were in the garden.” “I...I was not making up any stories.” I started. “I swear I heard a voice. She was asking for help and it was coming from the old mansion. Lowell mentioned that the witch was locked up in the mansion, so I thought she was the one calling for help. I saw the fog, too.” I had to pause to catch my breath. My head was starting to hurt but I tried my best to tell everything that had happened to Kaleb. “And then the guards allowed me to enter.” I continued. “That’s when I heard the voice again. That time it was coming from the water fountain. I heard your voice but I wasn’t so sure. The water seemed to be calling for me, too. And when I touched it, that’s when I saw him.” “Saw who?” Kaleb asked. “The man with a scar on his left cheek. He was smiling cunningly and I knew right then I was terrified of him. He said he had finally found me. I dreamt of him again, Kaleb.” I swallowed the lump in my throat. “He told me he was going to get me.” “Vilkas,” Kaleb sputtered bitterly. “He used the witch’s power to lure you in.” “Who’s Vilkas?” I asked out of curiosity. Kaleb looked away. He looked really angry as he clenched his teeth together. “The alpha of the Devlins.” My heart felt like it dropped straight to my stomach. So that’s what he meant when he said that he had finally found me. Kaleb stood up. “We shouldn’t waste time. They’re obviously already on the move and Vilkas already knew how to communicate with you.” When he started to move away from my bed, I quickly reached out and grabbed his hand. “No, don’t leave me here, Kaleb. I’m scared.” He reached for my face and I knew he was about to say something, but there was a knock on the door. “Come in.” Kiba and Czar walked in. “The witch is still locked up in her cell, captain. What do you want us to do with her?” “Keep an eye on her for the meantime. Double the guards at the mansion and make sure she’s nowhere near any form of water.” Kaleb said his orders firmly. “She has already casted a spell on Ellie and Vilkas is using that to communicate with her. I need patrol A to go out into the human world and find Bellatrix. We need to find a way to banish the spell.” Kiba and Czar both nodded, then bowed before they left the room. Once the door was closed, Kaleb turned to look at me. He caressed my face before he placed a kiss on my forehead. “Ellie, I need you to seek Narcia's help. The red blood moon is about to come. I need to fully prepare for the consummation. I won’t let them take you away. I promise you that.” I nodded as I felt my eyes begin to water. I knew I told Kaleb I was not scared of anything, but right now, all I could feel was fear.
