Chapter 1

1022 Words
The starless night sky loomed over the city, decorated by patches of dark cloud that promises rain. Perching on the ledge of the twenty stories building’s roof, the sound of whistling winds is downright deafening to Yu Qi but it’s still not loud enough to drown the curses uttered by the man standing ten feet away before her. The man appeared to be in his late forties, dress up in formal attire though his tie is gone, his shirt is button down way too far and his hair stuck in all direction as he runs his fingers through them repeatedly out of frustration. She could see the veins on his forehead popped up as he throws a stack of pictures to the woman seated on the long bench, bellowing angrily as she remains impassive. “What the hell are you thinking about, spreading around these pictures? You think you can threaten me with these stupid things? If people know about our relationship, you will be accused as the prime suspect of her death.” He curses again under his breath as the woman remained frozen, her blank gaze passes him as if he is invisible to him. What he can’t see is the presence of another spirit inside the possessed girl. Loses his temper, the older guy grabs the girl’s collar and attempted to choke her when the situation reversed out of sudden. Single-handedly she overpowered him as she pinned him to ground, crushing his airway with her elbow. He tried to scramble his way out, clawing at her face that only further irritated her. Swiftly, she slashes his throat with her sharp nail, eliciting a sharp cry from his lip. She brought her hand down again, this time aiming for his heart when Yu Qi decided she had watched enough. “I won’t kill him if I were you.” Yu Qi called out, watching the girl body went rigid. “Who the hell are you to tell me what to do? He deserves it. Calling himself my husband but he dared to cheat on me.” the girl’s figure trembles like a withering leaf, her face contorted with anger. “He killed me, he killed me, he killed me.” she chanted, her voice rises a notch at each word, piercing through the howling wind, cracking through the glass pane.   Yu Qi winched as the voice hit her, recognizing the dark energy emitted by the spirit. She has allowed the anger and vengeance to consume her, diminishing the last ounce of humanity and innocence within, which leave Yu Qi with no options but to eliminate the spirit. Charging an angry spirit head-on is the last thing that should be done unless one has a death wish. Distracting them is an option if she wants to avoid casualties on the man's death or having her own soul diminish. Not that she cares for the man’s life but the later is a concern for her. Though she is not technically alive, she has no intention to die for the second time, not before she found the answer she is seeking for. “I’ll grant you a boon if you really want to kill him.” Yu Qi offered, taking tentative steps toward the duo on the ground. The word deal seems to pique her interest, stopping her movement on the track. Yu Qi knew how this worked. Spirits have a strange obsession with making deals, especially with mortals as they live of feeding on human qi or energy, which often resulted in possession. Human, on the other hand, believes spirit able to grant them their wishes without realizing that spirit is a habitual liar. “What deal?” she asked, straightening up from her crouch, putting a decent distance from the unconscious body lying on the ground. Yu Qi reaches up to her bun, pulling off the silver pin that been holding her hair before stabbing it straight to her palm. Warm liquids flow freely all over her hand, splattering to the ground. The scent of her blood alarmed the violent spirit who looks like a trapped animal, her head quipped between the man senseless form and the exit. Seeing her lowered guard, Yu Qi seizes the chance and lurched toward the girl, slapping her bloodied palm on the girl's forehead. The effect is almost instantaneous, the spirit evicted the body with a blood-curling scream leaving the possessed body flopped to the ground with a heavy thump like a rag doll that had it string cut off. They scramble on the ground in a deathly tango, both trying to overpower their opponent as Yu Qi tried to maintain her grasp on the spirit to paralyse her while the girl is trying to claw her way out. Yu Qi aware of the downside of paralysing spirit using her blood requires her to keep in contact with the spirit and being within too close of proximity with the foe, but with her current limited ability, she runs out of options. Having a bigger built compare to Yu Qi’s five feet one, the spirit manages to weigh her down, slamming her on the ground. For once, she’s glad that she is dead, not that it doesn’t hurt but at least, her back will not be marred with fifty shades of blue and black. She could easily block the frantic attack, making her way around to straddle her opponent. “Last chance, you stop your killing plan, I’ll let you go in one piece.” Yu Qi offered amidst blocking the blows. Her offer replied with a sharp blow to her head causes her to be disoriented for a second. In her daze, the spirit throws her off, trying to escape to the opposite direction when an invisible force stroke her back to the ground. Seizing the chance, Yu Qi drove the silver pin through the spirit’s heart, stilling her immediately as her features set ablaze and turn into ashes.
