Chapter Nine
Cor answered the door with a smile and an inquisitive tilt of her head.
“What took you so long?" she asked.
Ben didn’t want to tell her it was because he looped around the block three times to make sure no one was following him. He knew in his heart he had to be overreacting, at least to some degree, but he wasn't willing to take any chances with Cor. As a matter of fact, that’s why he’d come back to the city.
“You’re gonna laugh, but I got lost,” he lied.
Ben had missed his thirtieth birthday because of everything that happened. Cor had emailed a few days prior, hoping he’d come down for a quiet thirty-first as friends.
