Samara/Nyx P.O.V:
“Why are they coming here for the inauguration ceremony? Did Alpha King Dorian have his ceremony here as well?” I asked in an angry tone, as my foster mother, High Priestess Fawn sighed at my complaining.
All my life I had been told by her and the other priestesses that I was supposed to do great things with my life, but I never believed them. I still don’t believe them to this day. Don’t get me wrong, I love them with all my being, but they can be off the rails sometimes.
Let me explain a little. I’m Samara, and I was thrown away by my parents when I was a few months old, for whatever reason. Fawn found me in the woods all alone and about to freeze to death. She took me in, named me, and cared for me to this very day. Her and the other omega Priestesses. This was my home, the Temple of the Night Mother, and someday I was going to be a High Priestess like my mom. I lived here with my mom and three other Priestesses, and one ‘in-training’ who happened to be only two years my younger and my best friend. Not to mention, last night I was told that the inauguration ceremony for the new Alpha King’s was going to be held here, on sacred grounds, and I wasn’t happy about it. It was weird. I had never heard anything about this happening before, and I felt deep down that everyone was up to something. Not to mention for the first time in Wulfkin history, there are going to be three Alpha King’s. They are the first set of Alpha triplets to ever be born, and born to the current Alpha King. So instead of having the brothers fight for the throne, they will co-rule in unison. Weird.
‘Leave mother alone, she knows what’s best.’ Nyx said as she sighed her discomfort at my probing for information.
Nyx was my omega wolf or she-wolf, my pride and joy. She was actually named from the Moon Goddess herself which was pretty cool. The Priestesses thought I was messing with them when I said her name. They asked if I was wrong, but I wasn’t. Nyx told me that this was her name, and any other name would disgrace her. She’s so dramatic, but I love her. Apparently, not may Wulfkin get to speak to their wolf halves either. It was something I was supposed to keep to myself.
‘I am twenty, Nyx. I know what’s good for me too.’ I said back with a sigh.
Nyx huffed. ‘You know, if we weren’t here in this temple, we could have found our mate by now.’
At that I rolled my eyes. I’ve heard this from her at least twice a week since I turned eighteen, the age where a female Wulfkin can officially smell out and feel her mate. ‘Whatever. We’re going to become a Priestess, Nyx. Mating cannot happen for us. That’s why we wear our mask.’
‘Whatever.’ She seemingly disappeared, frustrated with me.
“Why do you have such a problem with this, my dear? I would have thought that getting to see some wolves your own age would excite you?” Fawn asked as she laid out a beautiful garment on my bed.
I sighed, not trying to be a pain. “I…am fine. I just didn’t think that you and the others would tell me the night before. It’s just short notice, that’s all. I’m sorry for acting the way I did.”
Fawn laughed a little. “My dear, your feistiness is why I love you so much. I want so much for you, and one day, you will have the world at your feet. You my daughter, are the future of everything. Just don’t let it go to your head.”
“You know, I’m not going anywhere, mother. I’ll be here until I turn to dust. Wait…what’s that?” I looked down to the dress she out down on my bed.
Fawn winked as she moved to the door. “Take a look, our guests will start to arrive within the hour. So, get ready dear. Make sure you also do your hair.”
“Yes, mother.” I said with a smile. No matter what happens, I don’t think I could ever be mad at her or the other Priestesses. They were my family. They loved me when my own parents threw me away.
I lifted the dress and smiled. She knew me so well. My body wasn’t average. I had a thin enough waist and shoulders, but then my body flares into thick hips, thighs and a round ass. My breasts were only at a generous B-cup, but my lower half was definitely the best part of my body. Without another thought I undressed and put on the dress my mother had laid out for me. It was stunning, made entirely of black silk and lace. Strapless and low-cut lace bodice, with a dip style lace that ended with a long silk skirt that had high slits up both legs to give optimal movement. It was sunning, and it fit my curves perfectly. Like it was made for me, and I’m sure it was. I slipped on strappy style sandals that accented the dress. Then I did my make-up natural-ish just highlighting my most beautiful features like my high cheekbones, lovely catlike eyes, and my best feature. My eyes were what made me different. One of my eyes was wood colored, dark and warm, while my other eye was a pale sky blue. I did my hair in a messy side braid adorned with crystals.
When I was done I went to find my best friend in her room. I found Giana staring into a mirror with a sad look over her face.
“What are you looking at like your about to have a meltdown?” I asked as I came in and sat on her bed. “Speak to me love.”
“I….look like a damn whale. I mean, look at me!” Giana gestured to her body. “My only hope to getting out of here is tonight, but…”
I rolled my eyes, holding up my ‘mask’. “We have to wear these?”
Let me explain. The mask is something all Priestesses wear, it conceals one’s natural scent and keeps our scent from being projected to others. That way it prevents a priestess from finding her mate, or a priestess’s mate from finding them. It’s to maintain the ‘priestess’ ways. It covers the nose, chin, cheeks, and throat in a special cloth.
Giana rolled her eyes. “Yes, unless you want to find your mate.”
“What makes you think that our mates are going to be at this get together? I leaned back on her bed. “The likelihood is slim at best.”
“Alpha’s, their Bata’s, their omega mates, and their highest-ranking wolves from every large pack is going to be here. If we’re going to find them before we become priestesses, it’s going to be tonight.” Giana said with a sigh.
Kind of like myself, Giana was taken in by the priestesses when she was thirteen after her family was wiped out by rouges. We’re the only two at the temple who are not priestesses, and to be honest I don’t think I’m worthy enough to become one.
Giana’s dress was a light peach color with crystals on the top, fading as they moved down the skirt. It was a little poof-ier than she wanted, but I convinced her that it didn’t look bad. Her long legs put on white sky-high heels to keep the dress from dragging. She did her make-up subtle with light glitter on her eyelids for a gleam effect, and her blond hair up on top of her head.
“You look beautiful, babe.” I said when she did a little twirl.
Giana rolled her eyes. “Nothing compared to you though. I’m so hoping I get an Alpha, I would be happy with a Beta too though. Man, how I crave to mate. If I get an Alpha, he’ll be able to knot me after we finish the mating process! I want to know what a knot feels like so damn bad.”
I sighed. “Whatever. Let’s go, I think were already a little late.”
I have never seen the temple so alive before. All around there were wolves. Every pack was here in some form of way, and the ones that couldn’t make it had banners hanging to represent them. I felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb as I felt eyes on me. Beside me Giana got excited. She fiddled with her mask, and I could have sworn she wanted to rip it off then and there. She gestured that she was going to go to Drina, a priestess.
‘I’m excited, I can hardly stand it! If you want I can entertain in your stead?’ Nyx jested.
With a deep breath in my lungs, I moved towards the center of the great hall, looking for Fawn. Before I could even reach her a strong hand caught mine. When I looked over I saw a tall man with dark brown eyes staring down at me. My wolf sensed him out, he’s a Beta.
“May I have my hand back?” I asked, trying to be polite before I go full asshole on this man.
He smiled, but didn’t let go. “I saw you the moment you entered the hall, sweetheart.”
I nodded. “Okay, well, good for you. I kind of need my hand back now.”
‘This wolf needs to release us.’ Nyx growled in irritation.
“Please, tell me, are you a priestess of this temple? The mask.” He asked, looking me over.
I hesitated, unsure of my next plan of action, but luckily a loud booming voice intervened for me.
“Introducing the current Alpha King Dorian and his Luna Queen Makah, and introducing his successors Royce Crow, Redford Crow, and Ranger Crow.”
While everyone was paying attention to the royalty, I slipped my hand from him and moved as fast as I could away. After a drink or two, I decided to seek out my mother.
I saw Fawn talking to a very large mountain of a man that scared my wolf.
‘That’s…that’s the current Alpha King. Man, he’s terrifying.’ Nyx whimpered slightly at that last part. It was completely natural for Omega’s to submit to the King’s, hell, Alpha’s submit to the Kings.
Fawn glanced over and saw me standing there like an i***t, and with a slight smile on her lips she waved me over.
I swallowed hard as I moved myself forward, feeling like the air around me was suffocating the closer I got to Dorian. Knowing that my mother would always protect me, I still approached. “Hello mother.”
Fawn smiled as she held out her hand, which I took without hesitation. “This here King, is my adoptive daughter I was telling you about. Samara, dear, this is Alpha King Dorian Crow. His sons are set to take the title tonight.”
“I’ve heard.” I said, not realizing I had sarcasm laced into my voice. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, King.”
He smiled and nodded to me. His eyes were frightening to say the least. They were the color of dried blood and seem to stare directly through me. “Pleasure to meet you too, I’ve heard so much about you. This here coming up to my side is my mate and Luna Queen, Makah Crow.”
Makah was one of the most beautiful beings I have ever seen, with silky long pin straight platinum blond hair with lovely light blue eyes. Her smile could light up a thousand people, and when she walked into a room, you knew it.
“You must be Samara. I’ve hear great things about you from your mother. Have you met my son’s yet?” Makah asked, honey dripping from every word.
I shook my head. “No, my Queen. I’m sure they going to be very busy tonight. Maybe I’ll meet them before they leave. Will you all excuse me? I’m going to go get something to drink.”
They all nodded and went to talking by the time I turned around. It wasn’t like I didn’t want to talk to the King and Queen. I just wanted to get some air. Nyx has been restless since we got into the great hall, and it was starting to wear me out. I made my way through the crowd, avoiding as many staring males as possible. I moved to the end of the hall that leads out to a small courtyard and took a few deep breaths as I leaned against the back wall. My whole body was starting to get tingly, and I couldn’t figure out what was going on with me. Nyx was going crazy, my head was foggy, and my heart felt like it was skipping beats. Then I was very much aware that there was someone next to me that just came out of the courtyard.
Whoever it was, had to have been very powerful. The radiating dominance echoed across me without effort. I pretty much knew who it was before I even had to look. Finally mustering up the courage, I looked over.
Sure enough, it was exactly who I thought it was. Royce Crow, the eldest triplet brother who was to become the King here in a short while. He was absolutely stunning. Better looking than the rumors described. He had jet black hair, styled to where he slicked it back and the sides were shaved. His eyes were like his fathers, the color of blood, Royce’s were just a shade lighter. Tattoo’s littered nearly every inch of his skin, only stopping when they reached his face and the tips of his fingers. All in all, he was gorgeous. His eyes raked over me suspiciously, and when his eyes finally came back up to mine I raised an eyebrow.
“Oh, so you do know that my eyes are up here.” I said teasingly.
A devilish smile slid onto his handsome face. “I figured I would at least make a little eye contact before I went back to staring at the rest of you.”
I rolled my eyes. “Smooth.”
“I try.” Royce said as he wet his lips. “Are you a priestess? Your dress says no, but your mask says yes.”
“Does it matter?” I asked, with a little sass behind my words.
Royce shrugged. “Maybe not, maybe I was just trying to see if I had a chance with you.”
I couldn’t help it, I giggled while I shook my head. “At least you were honest. The last guy grabbed me and demanded that I took my mask off.”
He shook his head disapprovingly. “Well, I see you didn’t oblige him.”
I shrugged a little. “Nope. And to answer your question, no. I’m not a priestess. My adoptive mother is though.”
“I see.” Royce leaned against the wall next to me, knowing full well that he dwarfed me in height and it made him seem like he had the advantage, which he did. It made my wolf tremble with delight at his attention. “If I ask nicely will you take the mask off?”
I chuckled. “Not a chance.”
He leaned in. “Are your teeth jacked? Is that why you don’t want anyone seeing your mouth, little Omega?”
“Its…it’s not about seeing my mouth. The mask prevents me and my mate from finding each other. It’s the way of the priestesses.” I held my head high against him, but inside my wolf was showing her belly. A heat was flaring between my thighs as I took in his closeness.
Royce raised an eyebrow. “But, you’re not a priestess? Do you just want to be alone forever then?”
I sighed. “No. I don’t. What about you? Where’s your mate, soon-to-be king?”
“Ah, you know who I am.” He said almost disappointed. “I have no mate as of right now, and it’s getting late. Most find their mates by the time they are twenty. I’m five years past that, so, maybe the Goddess decided I was going to be a queen-less king. A vagabond, player king. None of my brothers have found their Omega’s either.”
I tilted my head to the side to see him fully. “That sounds incredibly boring and lonely.”
Royce nodded. “Yeah, but they think I’m a no-good man w***e anyways. At least I’ll be consistent.”
“What if you found her tonight?” I looked out to all the people. “Would you accept or reject her?”
“I would accept her, but I wouldn’t mark her unless she was what I needed in my life. I’ve gone this long without a mate, if she wasn’t worthy of being a good queen to our people, then I don’t need her.” Royce said without hesitation. He was confident about this.
I smiled a little. “The Moon Goddess doesn’t make mistakes. My mother taught me that. For years I thought I was nothing but a mistake. My real parents took me, a two-month-old babe, and left me in the woods. My mother had a vision of a baby crying at the base of a tree, and somehow knew where to find me. The Goddess wanted me to live for some reason, so, maybe she gave you a very capable mate, my King.”
Royce smiled big and laughed a little. “Well, little Omega, you are the first person to officially call me King. I’ll remember that. As for your upbringing, I’m glad your mother found you that night. Or I wouldn’t be enlightened by this conversation we just had. Tonight, will you at least give me one dance? Before I leave?”
“If it pleases my King.” I said sarcastically.
With that he pushed off the wall laughing, glancing back at me over his shoulder as he blended into the crowd.
When he was gone I let out a deep breath. He wasn’t what the people described him as. Everyone I heard said that Royce Crow was an inexperienced, lazy, man w***e, who wanted to do nothing more than f**k, eat, sleep, repeat. Yet, the Royce I just talked too seemed light-hearted, but well versed. He was easy to talk too, and maybe it was just because of the situation, but he was nice. For a split second, I thought about removing my mask and asking him to dance now. Then again, maybe I was being too hopeful.
“Where’s Giana?” I said with a huff.
