Hannah’s POV
The following morning unfolded with an unwelcome heaviness, as I emerged from a restless slumber, my body burdened by fatigue, and my eyes as puffy as ever perhaps even more swollen than the previous day.
The weight of the emotional turmoil lingered like an uninvited guest, casting a shadow over the new day, and the exhaustion that clung to me hinted at a night plagued by restless thoughts and a heart unwilling to find solace in sleep.
I knew today was going to be harder than the day before which I'm not looking forward to but it's not like I have an option anyway. If I don't wake up now and start thinking about working, Alpha Liam will come and knock on the door to wake me up in the most brutal way. Or maybe send a maid or two to come pour water on me just so I could wake up.
Alpha Liam showed me to this room yesterday. It was the room closest to the master bedroom and I think I have seen it locked before but it was like a heaven right now.
I wasn't sure what I expected at the beginning, if you don't count me getting the basement where there is a cement bed, pillow and a small toilet for me to use but what he showed me was more than I expected and I wasn't sure whether to be suspicious or grateful.
Stepping into the bedroom feels like being enveloped in a warm embrace of mh favorite colors a palette that dances between beautiful creams and soothing browns. The walls, adorned in a creamy hue reminiscent of vanilla, exude a timeless elegance that seamlessly blends with the earthy richness of the brown accents scattered throughout the room. I have always loved the color combination of brown and cream, so posh and welcoming.
The bedspread, a luxurious concoction of creamy linen, invites you into a cocoon of comfort, while the brown throw pillows add a touch of sophistication, creating a harmonious interplay between the two cherished tones.
Soft ambient lighting bathes the room in a gentle glow, enhancing the serenity of my chosen color scheme and turning the space into a haven of tranquility and understated beauty.
The room is the size of my entire apartment back in the human world. Everything here screams so much wealth that it makes me dizzy. I have forgotten just how rich Alpha Liam has made this pack ever since he took over. Everybody talks about how he's managed to turn this pack into the top three richest packs in the world.
He is currently sitting between the third and first position. Might as well take over soon. I don't know much about the business he does even though I am the beta's daughter.
I was never interested in the pack's politics or business to begin with. I have my own life in front of me so that wasn't my priority but I will find out what he does now. I'm too curious not to anyway. Besides, I'm going to work close to him, I'll have to know all his ins and outs. Where I should work to avenge what he's done to me when the time comes.
As I rose from the inviting embrace of the bed, my bare feet met the plush cream-colored carpet, and I treaded towards the bathroom with a sense of purpose. The door swung open, revealing a sanctuary adorned in soft hues that mirrored my favorite colors.
Creamy tiles lined the floor, their gentle warmth inviting a sense of serenity, while the walls wore a subtle shade of brown that whispered of earthly elegance.
The shower, enclosed in transparent glass, awaited with the promise of rejuvenation. A chrome-finished rainfall showerhead cascaded from above, poised to bestow a soothing cascade of water. The steam from the warm shower mingled with the earthy notes of a cedar-scented soap, creating a sensory symphony that enveloped the air.
With each step towards the shower, the room embraced me in a cocoon of tranquility, aligning perfectly with my preference for serene and comforting aesthetics. The early morning light filtered through sheer curtains, casting a gentle glow over the bathroom, and I couldn't help but appreciate the simple luxury of a space tailored to my liking.
As the water began its tranquil descent, I reveled in the thought that Alpha Liam need not worry about my early morning routine, a routine that unfolded in a haven designed for peaceful beginnings.
I am usually up as early as five to go jogging or sometimes to the gym that is a few blocks away from where I live when I feel like lifting some weight. Since I couldn't train in the pack as a warrior, I decided to make myself stronger physically. I know the time will come when I'll change into my wolf Mara. Moon Goddess didn't grant me Mara just like that. She has plans for me and I trust all her plans.
Well, except for this particular one that she gave me Alpha Liam as a second chance mate. Why not a nice gentleman out there that wouldn't turn everything against the lady because he doesn't want to ruin his image? Coward.
Faced with the prospect of my first day as a personal maid to Alpha Liam, I stood before the closet, contemplating the array of clothes hanging within. Uncertainty lingered in the air as I sifted through the options, seeking the perfect balance between professionalism and comfort.
How did I pack so much clothes? Eventually, my fingers gravitated towards a pair of figure-hugging skinny jeans, their dark hue complementing my skin.
A long-sleeved T-shirt, adorned in subtle patterns that mirrored the sophistication of the Alpha's mansion, emerged as the ideal choice. The fabric, soft against my skin, promised both ease of movement and a touch of casual elegance.
Just to move along with the bastard's order. As I slipped into the snug embrace of the skinny jeans and pulled the T-shirt over, a sense of readiness and determination settled within me.
I am ready to take over the world and make Alpha Liam eat up his words. If he thinks I'm not capable, he's got another thing coming.
I chose sneakers that completed the whole outfit, ensuring I could navigate the mansion's expanse with ease. Miraculously, my clothes had found their place in the closet, a thoughtful touch that hinted at Alpha Liam’s meticulous attention to detail. I couldn't help but feel a surge of gratitude for the unspoken consideration, a gesture that softened the edges of the unknown ahead.
Don't ask how my clothes found their way into this closet, it was all his doing. He does what he wants. Why haven't I seen this whole thing when I was younger? Was he covering it so well or I was just too naive and in my little bubble to notice such subtle things?
In the mirror, the reflection showcased a blend of confidence and trepidation, shown in the chosen outfit. With a final glance, I affirmed my readiness for the day, stepping into the unknown with a hint of determination and a touch of personal style. I stepped out of the room tying my hair in a low bun beneath my head. I don't expect any good treatment from him and I'm ready for him.
I met a maid down the stairs with a small note in her hand which she gave me with a small smile and disappeared. She looks about my age or slightly older than I am, I can't think. Doubtfully staring at the paper in my hand, I slowly open it to read the content already knowing the handwriting before I could even read. I rolled my eyes.
"You are not going to work in the mansion if that is what you are expecting. You'll be coming to the office and you should find your way. Don't be late. 9 AM sharp or you face a dire punishment."
My eyes narrowed at the paper then I checked the clock hanging on the wall to see that it was already eight. I don't know where the office is located and I'm so darn hungry. I don't want to find out what he is going to do if I'm late, I don't want to entertain him any further so I left the mansion with my stomach growling from hunger. God damn it.
Stepping out of the mansion with a hunger for answers and an undercurrent of frustration fueled by Alpha Liam’s note not to be late, I briskly approached the guard stationed at the entrance. My stomach gave another embarrassing growl just as I reached him and he smothered a smile but I was not in the mood for smiles right now so I went straight to the point.
"Hey, where's my car?" I inquired, a note of impatience edging my voice to thin not so nicely.
The guard, seemingly unperturbed, replied, "I wasn't instructed to hand over the car keys to you. Alpha Liam’s orders. You'll have to leave on your own."
The revelation hit me with an unexpected wave of annoyance, a collision of hunger and irritation. I stood there, grappling with the reality that my means of departure had been withheld, a silent frustration etched on my features.
The day's challenges seemed to mount before it even began, leaving me to navigate the situation with a blend of disbelief and simmering discontent.
Is this the way he wants to make this thing work? To make me humiliated and exhausted before he even tells me what I have to do?
