Chapter 3 - Dekota

Waking up to your mum banging on your door is never fun, especially if you’ve already pressed snooze on your alarm a hundred times. But all I heard was the pounding on my door and my mum yelling “DEKOTA GET YOUR ASS OUT OF BED OR YOUR GOING TO BE LATE FOR THE FIRST DAY!”. Needless to say I dragged my ass out of bed, I got in the shower and stood under the spray of hot water wishing like hell the school would suddenly catch a light and no one would have to go, but alas everything was fine and I still had to go. When I was done I wrapped a towel around me and headed to my room to put on the clothes I had put out the night before. I dried my hair and curled it a little to make some waves so it wasn’t straight as straw like usual and I applied a bit of makeup. I’m not really into the whole glam yourself up for school thing, I never really understood it if I’m being honest it just seems like a waste of time.

Once I felt like I had everything done and put on deodorant and some perfume I headed downstairs to where my mum had made breakfast. My dad had left earlier for work so I wouldn’t see him till later tonight. “Dekota sit and have something to eat. You really have to leave asap” was the first thing I heard my mum say when I entered the kitchen. “Yes mum I know. I’ll just grab some food and head out, I already have everything ready thankfully”. She looked at my cautiously “are you sure you don’t want me to take you today ? I could leave early and pick you up. Saves you having to find it and go in on your own today”. I get what she was saying but I really just wanted to get this over and done with. They had bought me a car when we got over here so there really was no point “I’ll be alright mum I promise. I have the GPS on my phone and all I really have to do is go to the administration to get my class schedule”. She seemed a little upset but I guess that’s to be expected with moving to a new country and sending your only child off to a new school without knowing anyone at all. “Alright as long as your sure. Just be careful and keep my updated if anything happens. I have to leave now and head to the office, please don’t be late for the first day. I love you and I’ll see you this afternoon” she kissed me in the forehead as she walked past “I love you to mum. Have a good day hopefully it’s what you were hoping for” she just smiled at me as she walked out then I was left by myself.

I grabbed my car keys and started heading out to my car. When I glanced up and looked to the neighbours house I saw Eva and Drew walking to their cars with another guy I’m assuming is Blain. He was bigger than both of them, I’m kind of surprised that he’s the baby of the family. He seems muscular and pretty fit, I’m presuming from all the training and effort into football. I finally tore my eyes away from him and waved at Eva and Drew and they waved back while mister tall and handsome completely ignored the hole situation having his face glued to his phone. Typical jock. I know all about them since I was part of the “popular” crowd back home. How I wish to never join that crowd again. What a damn nightmare.

When I finally made it to the school and found a parking spot after driving around for what felt like forever I made my way to the administration office. The lady looked up at me surprised “oh you must be miss Bennett, I have all you papers and schedule here along with you locker and it’s combination. We’re so glad to have a new face around. I hope you enjoy and we’re all here if you need anything. There is also a school map in hopes of not getting lost” she had a massive smile as she said all this which made me smile as well for her genuine joyfullness. “Thank you so much. I’ll be sure to come back if I have any trouble finding my way around”. After saying our goodbyes I stepped out into the hallway and looked around at all the people moving about, going to their lockers, meeting up with friends and whatever else they were doing. I walked down the hallways looking at the map trying to find my locker when I bumped into a wall, or what I thought was a damn wall with how hard it was but last time I checked walls don’t have hands but this one did they held me in place so I didn’t fall. As I looked up I looked into the most mesmerising hazel eyes I’ve ever seen.
