Lyra took a deep breath and decided to negotiate with the entity. “What do you want from me?” She asked, her voice steady.
The entity’s gaze seemed to bore into Lyra’s soul. “ I want what’s been promised”, it replied “your ancestors pledge their loyalty and sacrifice, I expect the same from you”.
Lyra’s mind racing, she tried to think of a way out. “What if I can offer you something else in exchange for releasing me and my pack from the pact” she asked.
The entity expression changed, it became interested, “Go on”, it said.
Lyra began to think quickly, trying to come up with something that might appease the entity. “I will give you something of value”, she said, “a treasure, a secret, anything, just leave my pack alone.
The entity laughter echoed through the forest, making Lyra’s skin crawl, “ you think a simple treasure will please me” it asked “No Lyra I want something more personal”.
The entity’s gaze seem to pierce through Lyra’s soul. “I want your loyalty”, it said “ your complete and utter devotion, in return, I will release your pack from the pact and grant you unimaginable power”.
Lyra’s heart sank. She knew she couldn’t give in to the entity demands, not without sacrificing her pack freedom and her own autonomy.
“What exactly do you mean by loyalty?” Lyra asked stalling for time.
The entity smile was look like a cold breeze on a winter night. “ I mean you will do my bidding, whenever and whatever i command, you will be my vessel and my instrument in this world”.
Lyra knew she had to make a choice. She could accept the entity’s offer and risk loosing herself or she could refuse and potentially doom her pack.
On the other hand Kael has been watching from a distance, his instincts screaming warning. He knew he had to act fast. With a burst of speed, he lunged forward, placing himself between Lyra and the entity.
“You will not harm her”, Kael growled, his eyes blazing with determination.
The entity gaze turned to Kael, its expression unreadable. “Ah, the loyal protector” it said “But you’re too late, the pact has already been triggered”.
Kael stood his ground, refusing to back down, “I won’t let you take her” he said, his voice low and deadly.
The entity sneered, its power surging forward. Kael prepared to defend Lyra, but she stepped forward, her eyes flashing with determination, “No” she said “I will handle this Kael”.
Lyra squared her shoulders, her gaze locked with the entity’s. “I won’t be your vessel,” she said firmly. “And I won’t let you control my pack. I’ve spent my whole life learning what loyalty truly meansand it’s not fear, it’s choice.”
The entity’s form seemed to ripple, like smoke caught in a storm. “Bold, foolish,” it hissed. “Do you think words can undo the pact? You have already chosen.”
Lyra clenched her fists, summoning every shred of courage. “Then I choose to fight,” she declared. A pulse of energy sparked around her, a glow born from her own resolve rather than the dark power the entity offered.
Kael’s eyes widened in surprise, but a spark of hope flickered there too. He stepped closer, standing ready to defend, but he didn’t speak he knew this was Lyra’s moment.
The entity lunged, a shadowy wave of force aimed at overwhelming her, but Lyra was faster. She sidestepped, channeling her inner energy into a barrier that shimmered like molten silver. The impact sent a shockwave through the forest, rustling leaves and snapping branches.
“You cannot defeat me with mere defiance,” the entity hissed, its voice like grinding stones.
“I’m not just defying you,” Lyra said, her voice steady as steel. “I’m breaking your hold.”
With that, she drew upon the bond she shared with her pack a connection older than the pact, forged in trust and love. The ground trembled, and from the shadows, her pack emerged, their forms glowing faintly with the same energy. The pact had granted the entity power over them, but it had underestimated the strength of their unity.
The entity recoiled, sensing the tide turning. “No..this cannot be”
Lyra raised her hands, summoning the collective will of her pack. Light surged from her fingertips, intertwining with the shadows of the entity. A deafening roar split the air, and for the first time, the entity faltered.
Kael leapt forward, fangs bared, striking at the entity’s side. The creature shrieked, a sound that echoed like shattered glass. Lyra didn’t flinch; she kept channeling the bond, feeding the energy of loyalty not to the entity, but to one another.
Finally, with a blinding flash, the entity was thrown back, crashing into the dark recesses of the forest. The oppressive aura lifted, leaving only silence and the scent of damp earth.
Lyra fell to her knees, exhausted but alive. Kael crouched beside her, his hand brushing her shoulder. “You..you did it,” he said softly, awe in his voice.
Lyra shook her head, catching her breath. “We did it,” she corrected. Her pack surrounded them, nuzzling her in relief and gratitude. “Together.”
For the first time in centuries, the forest felt free. And for Lyra, the bond she shared with her pack burned brighter than any dark promise the entity could offer.
