Carlotta smiled. “Honey has the distinction of being first with Elena, but I know what you meant. Is that what concerns you?”
“I just never thought of myself that way. Not yet, anyway.”
“It can be surprising, but I think you’ll welcome the day when it comes. Though some people don’t—maybe it’s hard to accept the fact that we’re not forever young. As some women—and men—lose their bloom of youth, they worry that their spouse will find them less desirable. But I think fascinating people remain perennially attractive, and they make much better company. Especially to themselves.”
Ivy laughed at that. “It’s good to enjoy your own company.”
“And staying curious keeps one vital and sharp.”
“Maybe Diana needs more curiosity.”
“Now there’s an idea,” Carlotta said.
