She woke up to a text from Trisha stating that she had gotten the house and she needed to meet up with her for her to sign the final documents. She quickly responded, it wasn't the original house that she wanted but it was better than staying in the bed and breakfast.
At this point, the encounters she had been going through were starting to rattle her mind. What if that strange man came again, what if those creatures found her way up to her porch.
"Better late than never," she said to herself as she swung herself out of bed and started to get ready. Trisha was picking her up in 30 mins and she had slept in longer than she thought she would. She quickly undressed and hopped in the shower with a little pep in her step.
She quickly threw on some clothes and went downstairs to greet Mrs. Bonny. Mrs. Bonny no longer looked her normal jovial self, if anything she looked drained and exhausted.
"Mrs. Bonny?" Sayde's surprise was evident. "Are you okay?"
Mrs Bonny gave a small smile and nodded. " Stepping out?" She inquired looking over Sayde's outfit.
Sayde smiled and nodded enthusiastically, "Meeting Trisha at the Cafe today, hopefully, it's good news." For some reason she didn't quite feel comfortable just yet letting Mrs. Bonny know she had finally gotten a house.
Mrs. Bonny's expression was grave as she approached Sayde, "Be safe out there dear, there are things out here that are not to be trifled with." She took a step back and smiled gently at Sayde, "Stay safe out there, don't talk to strangers." Mrs Bonny patted her shoulder before turning around and heading upstairs.
She went to say something but was cut off by a singular beep outside. Trisha was here, she took one last look at the retreating figure before beheading out the door.
"Morning hun, ready for breakfast?"Trisha said enthusiastically as she turned down the volume of music in her car. Sayde smiled as she did a side hug and then Trisha was off towards the cafe singing happily from the top of her lungs.
Sayde basked in Trisha's infectious bubbly personality, she even attempted to sing along as well making Trisha giggle with joy. Thirty to Forty-five minutes later they pulled into the cafe's parking lot and headed inside.
A few minutes later they were seated and their order taken. Trisha proceeded to ramble on about her week and how it went. She was out of town for a few showings and how she had closed 2 or 3 houses and Sayde's would be the fourth.
The waitress brought them over their coffee and Sayde took a deep breath, inhaling the scent of naturally roasted coffee.
"Enough about me though, today's focus is on you!" Trisha said with a tiny squeal.
Trisha beamed with happiness for her friend, sipping her coffee as they sat in the cosy café. Sayde couldn't contain her excitement about finally getting the house. Trisha beamed with happiness for her friend, offering her full support.
"I'm so happy for you," Trisha exclaimed, clinking her coffee mug against Sayde's. "You're going to love having your own place again."
Sayde nodded eagerly, a smile spreading across her face. "It's a relief, honestly. It's been a long time coming, but I'm glad everything worked out in the end."
As they chatted about logistics and plans for the move, Trisha noticed a hint of unease in Sayde's eyes. "Is everything okay, Sayde? You seem a bit on edge."
Sayde hesitated for a moment before deciding to confide in Trisha, trust had to start somewhere. Sayde paused, considering whether to share her recent experiences with Trisha.
Taking a deep breath, Sayde decided to open up about the unsettling events of the past nights.
"I have to tell you something, Trisha," Sayde began, her tone more serious now. "Ever since I arrived at the bed and breakfast, strange things have been happening."
"I've been feeling like I'm being watched, and there was this encounter with some creature-like things that were sitting outside my window below in the darkness," she half whispered. She looked around the cafe while she sipped on her coffee. "The night after a man approached me and was being cryptic but disappeared off into the darkness before I could get any answers."
Trisha's expression shifted from curiosity to concern as she listened intently. "Oh my goodness, Sayde. That does sound unsettling, have you told anyone else?"
"Well, Mrs. Bonny but," she paused thinking of the right way to say it "It all seems so weird."
Sayde shook her head, her eyes reflecting a mix of worry and determination.
While they spoke, Sayde couldn't help but notice a few people nearby who seemed to be eavesdropping.
Their eyes darted towards them, and some even leaned in subtly to catch snippets of their conversation. It made Sayde uneasy as if their talk was being monitored.
"It's really creepy, Trisha," Sayde whispered, glancing at the subtly nosy onlookers.
"Are you sure it wasn't just a prank or something?" Trisha said, looking as if she couldn't wrap her head around the information.
Sayde shook her head, her gaze serious. "No, Trisha, it felt too real to be a prank, and with Mrs Bonny's interaction this morning I don't think it's fake either."
Trisha's brows furrowed as she processed the information. "Do you think it's safe for you to move out now, considering all this?"
"What would be a better reason, if they, whatever they are, are stalking me isn't it better that I move somewhere else?"
"What about having familiar people in your presence, I know you don't know Mrs. Bonny like that or me for that matter but wouldn't it be better to have someone who knows you than being off alone by yourself in a foreign place with some random people you don't know stalking you?"
Sayde seemed to ponder for a little bit, taking in what Trisha said before responding to Trisha's concern. "You're right, Trisha. Safety should definitely come first. I appreciate your offer to help," she said with a grateful smile.
Trisha returned the smile, her eyes reflecting a genuine desire to assist Sayde. She reached out and placed a reassuring hand on Sayde's arm. "If you ever feel unsafe or need help, don't hesitate to reach out to me or the authorities."
As they spoke, the subtle onlookers at the cafe continued to glance in their direction, fueling Sayde's sense of unease.
She couldn't shake off the feeling that they were being watched, not just by curious bystanders but by someone or something with a vested interest in her experiences.
Their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of their orders, but the weight of their discussion hung in the air. Sayde couldn't help but feel a sense of relief knowing that she had someone to talk to for better or for worse.
As they sipped their coffee and nibbled on their pastries, they slowly shifted the conversation back to the practical matters at hand—the final documents for Sayde's new house and the possibility of her moving in that very day if she chose to.
Despite obvious fears, she was quite happy to finally have her own place where she could do what she wanted in it.
Trisha smiled encouragingly. "I'm here for you every step of the way, Sayde. And remember, if anything feels off or if you need assistance with anything related to the house, don't hesitate to reach out."
As they finished their coffee and wrapped up their conversation, Sayde felt a surge of happiness.
They opted to leave the cafe after paying and tipping the staff and taking a final walk around the house she had just bought.
As they pulled into the cobblestone driveway and a flower garden greeted her adorned the front, each bloom carefully tended to, adding a splash of colour against the backdrop of the house.
Stepping out of the car, Sayde couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation. This was her new home, a sanctuary away from the unsettling events of the bed and breakfast.
Trisha followed closely behind as Sayde led the way, unlocking the front door and stepping inside. The interior was as inviting as the exterior just as she remembered it, with cozy furnishings and a welcoming atmosphere.
Sayde's eyes lit up as she took in the master bedroom. She opened the porch door, revealing a breathtaking view of a vast field that stretched out to meet the tree line, where the forest and grassland melded seamlessly.
"This porch... it's my favourite spot in the whole house," She said, taking in a deep breath. Trisha nodded in appreciation, taking in the picturesque scene.
"You've really found a gem here, Sayde," she added as they entered the quaint kitchen.
They finished walking through the house and ended up on the back porch, overlooking a serene backyard dotted with wildflowers and a small vegetable garden. Sayde took a deep breath, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her.
"This feels like home already," Sayde said, turning to Trisha with a grateful smile. "Thank you for being here with me today."
Trisha returned the smile, her eyes reflecting warmth and friendship. "Anytime, Sayde. I'm glad I could be a part of this exciting new chapter for you."
