Chapter 11

2815 Words

CHAPTER 11 LACHLAN Driving down the gray New York City streets with the hospital fading fast in the distance, I can't help but feel a little disappointed. I guess when I agreed to keep an eye on Sabrina to protect her and her brother, I only assumed I'd be watching her around bridesmaid dresses. Or maybe I just assumed. As is the case with my family, trouble clings to the Fletchers like a second skin. They're never free from it. And I'm starting to realize that no matter how hard I try, I won't be free from it either. I decide that if looking after Sabrina for the next few twenty minutes—which is technically the same as looking after her brother—is what will ease my guilt and keep her (and everyone I know) safe from me, then I'll do it. The rest of the family is my issue, not hers.
