CHAPTER TWO
Sophia woke to the sound of chains.
Not the metaphorical kind, not guilt, not regret, but the sharp, metallic clink of iron scraping against stone.
Her breath hitched.
Cold bit into her skin, seeping through thin fabric. The air smelled of damp stone, old blood, and something sharper silver.
Silver.
Her eyes flew open.
The ceiling above her was low and arched, carved from dark gray stone veined with glowing runes. Torchlight flickered along the walls, casting shadows that crawled like living things. Her wrists were shackled above her head, silver cuffs biting into her skin, burning faintly with every pulse of her heartbeat.
Pain lanced through her arms.
She gasped.
“What…?” Her voice cracked.
It wasn’t her voice.
It was higher. Colder. Sharper at the edges.
Panic surged through her chest as memories crashed down on her all at once rain-soaked streets, blinding headlights, the scream of twisting metal, the feeling of falling
Death.
She died.
Sophia swallowed hard.
“No… no, no, no…”
She strained against the chains. The silver burned hotter, and she cried out, the sound echoing cruelly around the chamber.
Footsteps approached.
Heavy. Deliberate.
A slot in the iron door slid open, and a pair of glowing amber eyes stared in at her.
“She’s awake,” a man said flatly. “Go inform Her Grace.”
Her Grace?
The slot slammed shut.
Sophia’s heart thundered.
This wasn’t a hospital.
This wasn’t a dream.
This wasn't heaven either
Is this Hell!??
No…….no I'm too cute to end in hell ….
She said cursing in her mind
But……
Wait a sec this place feels sooo familiar….
This is ….
Her breath stuttered as a horrifying realization slammed into place.
This was the execution dungeon.
Her dungeon.
The dungeon she herself had written.
She twisted, ignoring the burn of silver, and leaned toward the small, grimy mirror bolted to the wall opposite her.
The face staring back at her was beautiful.
Too beautiful.
Long golden hair tangled around sharp cheekbones. Pale skin marred with bruises. Icy blue eyes that glinted with resentment even through fear.
Sophia staggered back.
“No… no, no..”
She shook her head violently.
“That’s not me.”
But she knew that face.
She had described it dozens of times.
Cold beauty.
Foxlike eyes.
A smile that never reached the heart.
Mariah Valencrest.
The villainess.
Her best friend’s fictional counterpart.
The girl with the tragic ending
Her knees gave out, chains rattling as her weight sagged.
“I entered the story…” Sophia whispered, voice trembling. “But not as her…”
A hysterical laugh bubbled up in her throat.
Of course.
Of course fate would do this to her.
She didn’t wake up as the richest, strongest werewoman.
She didn’t wake up as the beloved Luna.
She didn’t wake up as the girl with everything.
She woke up as the girl everyone hated.
The traitor.
The schemer.
The attempted murderer.
The villainess who had tried multiple times to execute the protagonist.
The iron door creaked open.
Sophia’s breath caught.
She knew who it would be before the footsteps even crossed the threshold.
Soft.
Measured.
Regal.
The sound of someone who had never been afraid.
A girl stepped into the dungeon, dressed in white silk embroidered with silver moons. Her dark hair flowed freely down her back, her expression serene, almost gentle.
The guards bowed deeply.
“Your Grace.”
Luna MacIver
The protagonist.
Sophia’s protagonist.
The kindest werewoman in the kingdom.
The girl blessed by the Moon Goddess.
The one who spared Mariah again and again out of mercy.
Sophia’s chest ached with a strange mix of relief and dread.
She’s here to save me, she thought desperately.
She always does.
Luna lifted her gaze.
Their eyes met.
And Sophia froze.
Because there was nothing kind in Luna's eyes.
No warmth.
No hesitation.
No mercy.
Only calculation.
“Well,” Luna said softly, smiling. “You look more alive than I expected.”
Sophia’s blood ran cold.
That voice…
That tone…
Wrong.
“So quiet today,” Luna continued, circling her like a predator. “No begging? No threats? No pretending you’re innocent?”
Sophia’s lips parted, but no sound came out.
This wasn’t the girl she wrote.
Luna stopped in front of her and tilted her head, studying her face.
“Tsk,” she murmured. “Did the dungeon finally break you?”
She leaned in, close enough that Sophia could smell her sweet jasmine, masking something rotten beneath.
“Don’t worry,” Sofi whispered, her smile sharpening. “I’ll spare you again.”
Sophia’s heart leapt
“Execution is too merciful for you.”
The words sliced cleanly through her hope.
Sofi straightened and snapped her fingers. “Prepare her for transfer.”
“Your Grace?” one guard asked hesitantly. “The council…”
“I said I’d spare her,” Sofi replied calmly. “I didn’t say I’d forgive her.”
She turned back, her gaze piercing.
“Enjoy your borrowed life, Mariah,” she said sweetly. “It won’t last long.”
And then she left.
Sophia was shaking.
Her nails dug into her palms as the truth settled in her bones.
The protagonist was not kind.
The kindness was an act.
And she the villainess was the only one who could see it.
The guards moved toward her.
One reached for the chain release.
That was when the world glitched.
The torches flickered violently.
The air shimmered.
And then—
A translucent blue screen snapped into existence in front of her eyes.l
《FATE CORRECTION SYSTEM ACTIVATED》
Host Identified: Sophia Miller
Current Identity: Mariah Valencrest (Villainess)
World Status: Deviated
Sophia gasped.
“What—?”
Mission 001: Survive the Execution Arc
Objective: Remain alive for the next 24 hours
Reward: +10 Reputation | Unlock Basic Wolf Aura
Failure: Immediate Death
Her heart slammed against her ribs.
A system.
She had read about these.
But she hadn't written about it.
Is she being ordered in her own story
Well it does has it's advantage I guess
But death as penalty seriously
What was the system thinking she already had experience of death
I mean it did bring her here right??
Not that she wants to experience that again
“I— I accept,” she whispered shakily.
The screen flickered.
The chains around her wrists unlocked with a sharp click.
The guards frowned.
“That’s strange,” one muttered. “The release rune activated on its own.”
Sophia sagged forward, gasping as the silver cuffs fell away.
Her skin still burned — but beneath the pain, something else stirred.
She wasn't gonna die again and would make sure of that.
As she was dragged from the dungeon, Sophia lifted her head.
She wasn’t the heroine.
She wasn’t loved.
She wasn’t trusted.
But she was alive.
And somewhere in this twisted story, fate had made a mistake.
Luna wasn’t the protagonist she wrote.
Sophia clenched her fists.
“If I’m the villainess,” she thought grimly,
“then I'll have to make that change I'm gonna be the greatest werewoman in history
The system pulsed softly in her vision.
