CHAPTER 2

415 Words
As Emily left the office building, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. The interview had seemed normal enough, but James' words had left her with a sense of unease. She walked quickly down the street, her eyes scanning the crowds of people rushing to and fro. She felt a shiver run down her spine as she noticed a black sedan following her. As she turned a corner, the sedan screeched to a halt, and two men jumped out. They grabbed Emily and dragged her back into the sedan. Emily struggled and kicked, but the men were too strong. They threw her into the backseat and slammed the door shut behind her. As the sedan sped away, Emily found herself in a dark, cramped room. She was alone, with no idea where she was or what was happening. The room was small, with cold, grey walls and a single, flickering light bulb hanging from the ceiling. Emily's eyes adjusted slowly to the dim light, and she saw that the room was empty except for a single chair in the center of the room. Emily's heart was racing as she tried to make sense of what was happening. Who were these people, and what did they want with her? She knew she had to stay calm and think clearly if she was going to get out of this situation alive. As Emily sat in the darkness, she heard the sound of footsteps echoing outside the room. They were heavy, deliberate footsteps, and they were getting closer. Suddenly, the door to the room creaked open, and a figure loomed in the doorway. Emily couldn't see its face, but she could sense its eyes on her. "Time to go," the figure growled, reaching out to grab Emily's arm. As Emily tried to pull away, the figure dragged her out of the room and into the darkness beyond. Emily stumbled and staggered, trying to keep her footing as the figure pulled her through the winding corridors. Finally, they emerged into a large, brightly lit room. Emily blinked in the sudden light, taking in the rows of computer terminals and the banks of machinery humming in the background. A figure in a white lab coat turned to face her, a look of interest on his face. "Ah, Emily," he said. "Welcome to our little laboratory. I'm Dr. Lee, the head of research here." Emily's eyes narrowed as she looked around the room. "What is this place?" she demanded.
