5Detective Bass met Macky at headquarters the next morning. Bass had an interview set up with Millie Puchow later that day, but he needed to review the facts with his partner.
“Not much that’s new in the M.E.’s report,” Bass said, dropping his copy on Macky’s desk. “There was that question about his bloody lip. He might have been punched or slapped, or it might be his assailant’s blood.”
“In his mouth?”
“That would mean someone has a pair of scraped knuckles.” He was thinking of Tarksen when he said that. Bass continued to pace in front of the desk as Macky leaned back in the chair and thumbed through a copy of the report. Bass noticed that Macky only skimmed the first four pages.
