IIBass was late getting into the police station next morning. He had dropped off yesterday’s suit coat at the dry cleaners and pointed out to the clerk where the fingerprint powder was on the jacket. While he was there, he picked up his other brown suit coat, which had been there for over a week waiting to be claimed.
At the station, Bass brought the coat in and hung it next to a group of old jackets and sweaters on the horizontal rod near the counter. He poured himself a cup of coffee, added a splash of cold water, and, after taking several large gulps, sloshed the remainder into the sink.
Bass went to his desk and looked for a forensic report. After thumbing through stacks of material and not finding it, he picked up the canvassing report and left.
