Chapter 2Detective Bass didn’t meet up with his partner until Monday morning. It was raining that day. Macky sat on the edge of Bass’s desk, solid metal like all the other desks in the room. Water pooled under his shoes, still wet from the thunderstorm. He was looking for the final autopsy report. It wasn’t in yet. “Find anything in the apartment?” Macky asked as he thumbed through Bass’s files. “Only if nothing counts as something,” Bass replied. “And we have no postmortem?” “That’s the way it goes. I think the cause of death is rather self-evident, though.
