Adrian was half-dead at Xavier's place.
So much so that whenever Xavier wanted to kiss, hug, or cuddle Sophie, he had to check Adrian's mood first.
If this kept up, it wouldn't just be Adrian dying—it would be Xavier too!
So Xavier made a firm decision and approached Adrian.
"Don't say I didn't warn you—Willow has a prenatal check-up in two days. A golden opportunity. Don't miss it," Xavier said, grabbing Adrian's hand with teary eyes.
"Tomorrow? Prenatal check-up? What time?" Adrian's eyes lit up. He'd never been to one of Willow's prenatal check-ups!
Then he thought about how many of Willow's check-ups he'd already missed. Adrian's mood instantly sank.
He really had missed so much...
That night, Adrian took out the necklace he made and looked at it for a long time. He absolutely wouldn't give up!
---
Time quickly came to Willow's prenatal check-up day. This time, Adrian was smart enough to know that waiting downstairs at Willow's place would get him kicked out, so he waited at the hospital entrance instead.
So when Willow arrived at the hospital entrance waiting for Sophie, the first thing she saw was a very conspicuous Adrian.
Willow frowned. She couldn't defend against a backstab.
That's when she got Sophie's message:
[Xiao Wan, I have something come up suddenly. I'm sending my brother instead! Love you muah muah muah~]
Willow sighed and walked into the hospital.
"Willow, did you eat breakfast? I brought you breakfast," Adrian said eagerly, stepping forward.
Only then did Willow clearly see—Adrian was dressed very casually today. Finally not in a suit and tie. And he was carrying what looked like a stuffed canvas bag full of random stuff.
This whole dad-vibe waswas going on?
Willow's mouth twitched. She ignored Adrian and walked straight in.
"I also brought a thermos. Xavier said pregnant women need to drink lots of water," Adrian said, taking out the thermos from his bag like a treasure.
"Enough! What exactly do you want?" Willow turned around impatiently.
Adrian: Isn't it obvious?
"I've never been to one of your prenatal check-ups with you. As the father, can I participate?" Adrian asked, looking slightly aggrieved.
Here he came again. Willow looked at Adrian right now and thought of a dog wagging its tail.
She rolled her eyes and walked into the hospital, but didn't reject Adrian following her anymore.
He was right. He was the father. He had the right to see the baby.
---
At the examination room, Willow went through the usual 32-week fetal heart monitoring and B-scan.
"Wow, Dad is finally here today! Come see how Baby is growing~" The B-scan doctor was unusually enthusiastic—this was the first time she'd seen Willow bring her "husband."
Adrian looked nervous.
Willow, on the other hand, was a pro. She lay on the B-scan bed familiarly, lifted her clothes to expose her belly.
It had been a month since Adrian last saw Willow's bare belly. And in that month, with Housekeeper Liu and Chloe feeding Willow all kinds of things, Willow's belly had grown even bigger.
Adrian looked at Willow's belly and his eyes went wide.
Willow must be so uncomfortable... Adrian looked down, his heart aching for her.
"Look, Dad—this is Baby's limbs. Such long legs, looks like Dad!" The doctor cheerfully pointed things out on the screen.
Adrian looked like he'd never seen anything in his life, staring at the screen without blinking.
A tiny little person, inside Willow's belly.
This was the first time Adrian had ever seen his child.
"Look—Baby has such a tall nose!" The B-scan doctor laughed.
Willow smiled as she looked at the screen.
Baby's B-scan image was getting clearer and clearer. They could even make out the general shape of the features. Growing so big now...
Willow was touched too.
"Look—Baby knows Daddy's here today. So excited, dancing!" The doctor pointed at the screen where a little figure was waving its arms and legs.
Adrian's eyes turned red.
Willow saw Adrian's reddened eyes and coughed uncomfortably.
Why was he so crybaby lately? Why wasn't he like this before? Willow thought to herself.
"Okay, now let's do the fetal heart monitoring," the doctor wiped Willow's belly and helped her sit up.
Adrian very perceptively stepped forward and took the doctor's hand, helping Willow up.
"Thank you," Willow said quietly.
Adrian frowned. He hated it when Willow said "thank you" to him.

At the fetal heart monitoring room, Willow greeted the familiar nurse and sat down.
"Is husband coming with you today..." The nurse smiled and asked, then suddenly stopped mid-sentence, looking at Willow with a very strange expression.
"Why isn't it the same husband as before?" The nurse said, so shocked she blurted it out.
Silence. Dead silence.
Okay, Willow finally understood what "social death" meant.
"He's my ex-husband..." Willow explained.
"And the other one?" The nurse hesitated.
"He's just my friend..." Willow said, head aching.
Everyone: The city is so complicated. I want to go back to the countryside.
Adrian had already been ignited when the nurse mentioned another man had been with Willow at previous check-ups. Then he heard Willow say he was her ex-husband.
Excellent. Adrian exploded.
"That previous man—who was he? Lucas?" Adrian leaned close to Willow, asking.
"Be gentle," Willow said uncomfortably, covering Adrian's mouth. He was actually asking?!
"So was it Lucas?" Adrian removed Willow's hand from his mouth, lowering his voice to ask.
"Yeah," Willow had to admit.
"He got to come to your prenatal check-ups before me? I'm the baby's father!" Adrian couldn't help but raise his voice.
Everyone looked at them again.
"If you keep talking, get out!" Willow glared at Adrian.
Adrian had to swallow his anger and sit down beside Willow, face hanging.
"Let's listen to Baby's heartbeat now," the nurse said sheepishly, coming over to measure Willow's fetal heart.
Thump-thump.
One beat after another—deep and powerful heartbeat sounds. It drew Adrian's attention completely.
"Our Baby is so strong!" Adrian's eyes lit up.
He'd never heard anything so beautiful.
It was his baby's heartbeat!
Willow's eyes softened. She understood Adrian's feelings. Because when she first heard it, she felt the same way.
A baby's heartbeat was definitely the most beautiful sound in the world!
Soon the fetal monitoring was done. The nurse removed the instruments from Willow, but kept sneaking glances at Adrian.
No justice—two husbands, each more handsome than the last.
Willow: Neither one is my husband!!
Adrian helped Willow walk out. Though his expression had eased, the thought of Lucas having been to Willow's prenatal check-ups before him made Adrian so jealous he could go crazy!
"I'm coming to every single check-up from now on," Adrian said, tone brooking no argument.
"You have time?" Willow looked at Adrian strangely.
"I have plenty of time. Right now the most important thing is you," Adrian nodded.
(Men—how pathetic can you be?)
"You have time, but I don't want you to come," Willow rolled her eyes.
"Lucas can come. Why can't I? You're so unfair to me," Adrian said through gritted teeth.
"Exactly. So what?" Willow turned around and asked with a smile.
"Willow, I'm the baby's father. I have the right. Let me come with you. I don't want to miss any more of Baby's check-ups," Adrian said seriously.
Willow's mouth twitched, but she didn't deny it.
"If you're not saying no, I'm taking that as a yes," Adrianimmediately decided made the decision.
"I didn't say that."
"You did."
"Did not."
"Did too!"

In a corner of the hospital, Lin Yue watched Adrian helping Willow—big belly and all—walk away. Her whole body was trembling.
She couldn't believe it!
This morning, she'd received a call from Chief Assistant Yan saying she'd been transferred back to the Lin family company.
What was that about? Being sent back to her hometown? What did she do wrong? Lin Yue thought back—she'd been very quiet lately, barely did anything! So what was the problem?
She called Adrian in a daze. Adrian had actually blocked her number?! She couldn't find Adrian anywhere in the company. When she asked Chief Assistant Yan, he only said four words: no comment.
Her father quickly called to give her an earful. Even Father knew about it.
Impossible—Adrian wouldn't be this cold. Besides, she hadn't done anything lately! So what was going on?
She was so frustrated her head hurt, so she decided to go to the hospital first to get some medicine.
And then—what did she see?!
Willow was pregnant?!!
Lin Yue's hands tightly clenched. Her nails dug deep into her palms.
Days ago, she'd caught a glimpse of Willow's belly. So it wasn't her imagination after all—Willow was already pregnant then!
At the time, she'd been so overjoyed about Willow and Adrian's divorce that it completely clouded her judgment.
And now? Reality gave her a heavy punch. She really was pregnant!
She'd waited for them to divorce. And now Willow... Lin Yue hated it. Her teeth gnashed.
God, why do You keep doing this to me!
Now Lin Yue knew why she'd been sent away without explanation!
Lin Yue forced herself to calm down. She watched the two people walking away with cold eyes.
Impossible... Her happiness was within reach. She wouldn't let Willow win!
