Adrian stared at the blood dripping from his hand onto the floor, hastily wrapped it in some tissue, feeling extremely agitated, and walked to the balcony to light a cigarette.
Right then, his phone rang. It was Sophie.
"Bro! You went to Greece???!!!" Sophie screamed.
If she hadn't gone to find him at the company today and found him absent, then asked Chief Assistant Yan, she wouldn't have known at all! Oh no!
"Something wrong?" Adrian answered, his tone not great.
"Did you... did you see Xiao Wan?" Sophie asked carefully.
"Yeah."
"So you two... are you guys okay?" Sophie asked nervously.
Adrian caught Sophie's abnormal reaction. Suddenly, his mind cleared.
"You knew. Didn't you." It wasn't a question.
"Uh... haha, what are you talking about, I don't know what you mean!" Sophie laughed awkwardly.
"I haven't even told you what happened yet." Adrian's grip on his phone tightened.
"......"
Sophie: I'm so dead.
"Talk!" Adrian demanded.
"Xiao Wan made me promise not to tell you... I'm sorry, bro..." Sophie knew she was in trouble, her voice small.
Adrian hung up and took another hard drag of his cigarette.
So even Sophie knew. And he, the father, didn't know a thing.
Adrian suddenly felt a deep sense of failure. Did he really have so little trust from Willow?
Finished with the cigarette, Adrian turned back.
Passing Willow's room, Adrian instinctively stopped in his tracks, hand on the doorknob but didn't turn it.
Suddenly, there was a sound of something falling inside. Adrian didn't hesitate for even a second—twisted the doorknob and rushed in.
Willow wasn't there.
He rushed to the bathroom.
Willow just wanted to take a proper bath by herself, to clear her head.
But her body was a bit heavy now, making everything slower. As she tried to squeeze some body wash, she accidentally knocked over all the bottles and cans beside her, sending them clattering to the floor. Willow sighed, closed her eyes, and let the warm water stream over her head.
Before Willow could react, the bathroom door suddenly opened.
It was Adrian!
Willow got such a fright.
Adrian opened the door and saw Willow standing naked under the showerhead, head tilted back, eyes closed. The warm water cascaded down from Willow's head, Adrian's gaze following the droplets as they traced down her fair skin, finally landing on Willow's belly.
Her belly was swollen. Her body was fair. The belly had stretched so much you could almost see the blue veins beneath the skin. But except for the belly, her limbs and body were so skinny—it was heartbreaking. She was even thinner than before the divorce. How was this slender body supposed to carry the ever-growing belly?
Adrian's breathing grew heavy.
Willow stood there completely naked in the shower. When Adrian rushed in through the door, her first instinct was to turn away, not wanting him to see her body.
She didn't expect the floor of the shower to be so slippery, and her movements were too sudden. She accidentally slipped.
Adrian lunged forward without thinking and caught Willow, his whole face pale with fear.
Willow herself got a huge shock too.
When she came to her senses and found herself naked in Adrian's arms, Willow tried desperately to cover herself while also pushing him away.
"Let go of me," Willow's face was terrible too—she'd really been scared just now.
If she'd fallen to the floor, the consequences would've been unimaginable. Willow was also feeling deep regret.
Adrian held back his rage, set Willow down carefully. The rise and fall of his chest showed just how angry he was.
He tried to compose himself for a long time, but thinking about what just happened, he couldn't help but explode at Willow.
"Do you have any idea how dangerous that was?! If you'd fallen, it would've been double death—you and the baby! Why do you always insist on being strong? Look at your body! Where is there any flesh besides your belly? Should a pregnant woman be this skinny? You're not taking care of yourself at all! If you'd been alone and no one was there to catch you, what would you have done? Trying to die?!" Adrian roared at Willow.
Willow was terrified.
In all her life, Adrian had never been this fierce with her.
Tears she couldn't control streamed down like broken pearls, falling onto Willow one after another. She kept her head down, teeth clenched tight, refusing to make a sound.
Adrian's hands were in tight fists, knuckles white.
The air was dead silent, the atmosphere heavy.
Willow stood there stubbornly without speaking, completely naked, standing before Adrian, just like always—without any dignity...
"If it kills us both, at least I'd have my kid as a companion," Willow said, giving up on herself.
Couldn't tell if the drops on her face were tears or water.
"What did you say?" Adrian couldn't believe Willow would say such things. In that instant, he felt the string in his brain snap.
He slammed Willow against the wall, rage making him lose control, not knowing his own strength. Willow was roughly pressed against the cold wall and groaned, but still refused to look up at Adrian.
Adrian grabbed Willow's chin and forced her head up to meet his eyes.
The coldness in Willow's eyes made Adrian collapse.
She meant it. It was her real feelings...
Willow met Adrian's gaze.
"I said just let us die. End it all. I don't want to be tangled up with you anymore..." Willow said firmly.
"You want to end it all with me? You don't want to be tangled up with me? You want to die?" Question after question poured out. Adrian felt like Willow must be doing this on purpose—she was torturing herself, deliberately saying these things. Otherwise, why would his heart hurt so much right now?
Adrian lowered his head and fiercely kissed Willow's lips. He wanted to silence her so she could never say such heartless things again.
How could he let go? Impossible... He'd never let go again.
Adrian pulled Willow close with one arm, his lips and tongue violently ravaging hers. Blood trickled down, then got washed away by the water.
Willow's cries of pain were all blocked in her mouth.
He wanted to gently stroke Willow's belly, but Willow kept dodging his hand, refusing to let him touch her stomach.
Adrian pressed harder against her and deepened the kiss, their lips and teeth tangling desperately.
At first Willow resisted, but with their vast difference in strength, she gradually gave up.
Adrian grabbed both of Willow's hands and pulled them above Willow's head. He was almost losing his mind.
The kiss left her lips and traveled down her neck and collarbone, leaving mark after mark, red turning purple.
Only one thought filled Adrian's mind:
She and the baby are both mine!
Willow stubbornly bit her own lips, refusing to make a sound. Unable to break free from Adrian's grip, Willow felt the cold from pressing against the wall, her whole body trembling.
Gradually, the discomfort in her belly grew obvious—the pain was evident. Her legs were also going soft from standing so long.
Willow's consciousness grew hazy. She thought, forget it. Consider it the debt I owed him in a past life. I'll repay it in this life, together with the baby...
As Adrian kissed her, he noticed something was wrong.
The person in his arms had gone soft and limp, beginning to slide toward the floor.
Adrian caught Willow in a flash. Looking closely, Willow's face was scrunched up in pain and she had fainted.
Adrian's head felt like it exploded.
What did he do?!
He quickly held Willow tight.
"Willow? Don't scare me, what's wrong?" Adrian patted Willow's face gently.
"Pain..." Willow frowned, clutching her belly, groaning weakly.
Adrian's whole body trembled uncontrollably. He grabbed a large bath towel to wrap Willow in, then draped a coat over her, trying to pick Willow up to carry her out.
His body was shaking so badly, for a moment he couldn't even lift her.
Adrian gritted his teeth, picked Willow up, and rushed outside.
"Hospital, where's the hospital?" Adrian barged into the landlord couple's house.
Seeing Willow's pale, unconscious face, the elderly couple were also terrified. They quickly called the local ambulance.
The ambulance arrived fast. Adrian got in with Willow, holding her hand tight.
He prayed in his heart:
Please, please be okay...
