Chapter 60: Operation My Wife Win Back

991 Words
When Adrian came back upstairs, he found a neatly placed bag outside Willow's door. Inside was clearly his pajamas and toiletries. Adrian: ...Dammit. Adrian knocked on the door. Willow didn't open it. "Willow, are you going to make me sleep on the street?" Adrian asked pathetically. "The sooner the better," Willow's cold voice came from behind the door. Finally getting rid of this unwelcome presence, Willow clapped her hands with satisfaction. Now she could focus on her painting! Thinking about her painting in the Victoria Competition, Willow was beyond excited. Adrian could go fly a kite! Right now, Willow's brain was filled with nothing but the competition. She was going to become a better version of herself—to set an example for her baby! And Adrian—he meant every word. He really had nowhere to go. Pathetically carrying his toiletries and pajamas, he drove to Xavier's place. He pressed the doorbell with a dark expression. "Who is it? Xavier, did you order takeout?" Sophie asked while applying a facial mask. The first thing she saw was her brother's face—darker than dark. Sophie didn't hesitate for even a second before slamming the door shut. What the hell?! "I didn't order any takeout though?" Xavier walked over, looking at the confused Sophie. "Well? Scoop me up then," Sophie poked Xavier's chest with one finger. "Huh?" Xavier looked completely lost. "My brother is here," Sophie patted Xavier's shoulder. Oh—Adrian was here. Xavier rocketed up. "Where are my clothes? Sophie, where are my clothes?" The shirtless Xavier ran around looking for clothes, sweating bullets. "They're on my head," Sophie rolled her eyes. "Wait—where are my pants?" Sophie suddenly remembered to ask. After five minutes of pure chaos, Xavier and Sophie were finally dressed properly. The doorbell rang again. Adrian raised an impatient eyebrow. "Are you two done yet?" "Yeah, bro— I mean, dude," Xavier said, sweating bullets as he opened the door, greeting Adrian with a smile, nervously patting Adrian's shoulder. Adrian walked in, glancing at Sophie hiding behind, then at Xavier. "Sis, how long have you two been living together?" Adrian asked, sitting on the sofa with arms crossed and legs crossed, studying the two people standing before him. "I've only been here for one day! First day! Don't tell Dad, please please please," Sophie looked up at Adrian with pleading eyes. Adrian let out a cold laugh. "Why did you come to my place all of a sudden?" Xavier sat next to Adrian, trying to get closer. "Willow kicked me out. I have nowhere to sleep. I'll stay for a couple days," Adrian said. "Your family home?" Sophie asked. "Grandpa won't let me in." "Your place?" Xavier asked. "Mom changed the locks. I can't get in." Xavier and Sophie: Nice... "I'm going to go clean a guest room for you. Remember—you're not allowed to tell Dad, got it?" Sophie went and came back, warning Adrian. "So—do you have any plans?" Xavier poured Adrian a glass of whiskey. "Of course to make it up to her. My own stupid mistakes," Adrian drank it in one gulp. The burning liquid went down his throat to his stomach. "Come to me, bro. We'll make a plan together to win your wife back! You'll definitely get results," Xavier punched his own chest—mission accomplished! "What plan?" Adrian looked at Xavier very distrustfully. "Chasing a girl is nothing—flowers, candlelight dinner, a token of love," Xavier slung his arm around Adrian's shoulder. Adrian frowned, gesturing for Xavier to continue. "Step two... monthly stars or whatever—all the weird opposite-s*x characters around you should scram!" Sophie peeled off her facial mask and rushed over to join the planning. Adrian nodded. "What about Housekeeper Liu? Should she leave too?" Adrian turned to Sophie. "Let me strangle him," Sophie lunged at Adrian, ready to go down fighting. "Calm down, calm down," Xavier grabbed Sophie from behind, both of them breathless. This was truly Adrian's weak point. But starting now, he'd learn properly. "Step three! The sympathy play!" Xavier nodded confidently. "A man's tears are a woman's adrenaline," Xavier said like an expert. Sophie: Wait—why does this plot sound so familiar? "Sympathy play? You want me to beat myself up?" Adrian asked, not understanding. "Of course not me! It's best if Willow can get her frustrations out by hitting you," Xavier said. "Are you crazy? Willow is pregnant with a big belly—how can she hit him?" Sophie rolled her eyes, speechless. "Oh right, that doesn't matter. Let's start with steps one and two first," Xavier said. Adrian nodded. He was actually considering what Xavier was saying. "I told you so long ago—you never actually chased Xiao Wan. You men are all like this—easy to get and not cherished," Sophie said, defending Willow's honor. Wait— "You never chased me either though?" Sophie suddenly snapped back to reality, turning to question Xavier. Xavier: ??? "I chased you from home to your family, then from my home to Xiao Wan's home. Did I not chase?" Xavier asked with wide eyes. "Chasing means flowers, candlelight dinner, token of love—none of which happened?" Sophie had heard it all just now. The boomerang had hit Xavier right on the head. "I used the sympathy play though!" Xavier shouted. ... "Go to hell!" Sophie grabbed a pillow from the sofa and smacked Xavier with it. "Adrian, control your sister!" Xavier ran for his life. Watching the two chase each other around, Adrian actually felt a hint of envy in his eyes. He drained the last sip in his glass and went back to his room. "Chief Assistant Yan, there are a few things I need your help with." After making the call, Adrian lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling. His brain was filled with: Flowers... Candlelight dinner... Token of love...
