And so, Sophie began her life of hiding out at Willow's place.
Sophie discovered that staying with Willow wasn't bad at all. Mrs. Wright came every day to take care of three meals. She occasionally chatted with Willow, went shopping, watched TV, and watched Willow paint.
Mmm~ life without her phone was. Not. Boring. At. All!
Yes, Sophie hadn't turned on her phone for an entire week.
She didn't dare...
Before long, the day of the dinner party arrived.
Sophie still took Willow to the same styling studio as before. The two of them fussed for a long time before finally walking out before dark.
"Little Willow, you really should dress up more often. You look gorgeous!" Sophie looked Willow up and down.
It was rare to see Willow dressed up so formally. Today, Sophie had carefully picked out a qipao for her that minimized attention on her waist while perfectly accentuating her chest. Her slightly rounded face made her oval face look even more gentle. Her hair was styled elegantly with pearl and jade ornaments scattered throughout, perfectly bringing out her grace. With light makeup, Willow's eyes looked so affectionate they seemed like they could drip water. Every frown and every smile truly made her look exactly like her name—gentle and lovely.
And the pregnant Willow, wearing a qipao, had an inexplicable maternal glow.
So beautiful. Too beautiful. Sophie couldn't help but clap her hands. She knew a qipao was absolutely perfect for Willow!
"Let's go. The earlier we go, the earlier we leave." Willow said a little embarrassedly.
To be honest, she really wasn't used to wearing this kind of clothing. Though she was wearing flat shoes, at least the qipao was more tolerable than those heavy evening gowns. She glanced at Sophie's 10cm+ heels and shook her head. She couldn't do it, couldn't do it.
"Let's go." Sophie looked like she was heading to her execution. Willow couldn't help but laugh.
When the two of them arrived at the venue, Sophie furtively looked around. Not seeing that familiar figure, she let out a huge breath of relief.
She wasn't standing him up. She came. She was just going to leave early.
"What are you doing?" Adrian's voice sounded from behind.
"Ahh!" Sophie shrieked like a startled cat.
Adrian cleared his ears. He was really about to go deaf.
"How do you walk so silently?" Sophie rolled her eyes at her brother. Scaring people could literally kill them.
"What are you looking for?" Adrian asked.
"Nothing, haha." Sophie said guiltily.
"Why is your phone turned off?" Adrian asked again.
"I can't find my phone." Yeah, right. Like anyone would believe that.
"Why has Dr. Harrington been looking for you?" Adrian squinted his eyes, sensing something was off.
"Wait, that woman in the red dress over there looks like a ghost. She looks so familiar." Sophie looked into the distance, trying to change the subject.
Wearing a red short dress, Olivia: I thank you.
"Isn't that Olivia?" Sophie looked at Adrian like he was crazy.
"And you brought her?" Sophie asked incredulously.
"Manager Lin is in charge of the collaboration with the Harrington family. What's wrong with bringing her?" Besides, he needed a date. It solved the problem of annoying people hitting on him, and she could drink and talk business. Killing multiple birds with one stone. Wasn't that what workers were for?
Adrian also looked at Sophie like she was crazy. What was the problem?
"Are you serious? Do you have feelings for Olivia or not?" Sophie's head hurt.
Was her brother really the legendary straight-as-an-arrow guy?
"What are you talking about? People with dirty minds see everything as dirty?" Adrian frowned, displeased.
Why did everyone keep asking? Which eye of theirs saw that he had feelings for Olivia?
Sophie decided to stop talking nonsense with Adrian.
The priority right now was first, avoid Dr. Harrington, and second, keep Little Willow away from Olivia.
So annoying!!!
Over there, Willow was quietly sitting to the side... eating cake.
You had to admit, the cake at this dinner party was really good.
As she ate, she was in a good mood, even swinging her legs.
She wondered if Sophie was okay. She hoped she didn't get caught by Dr. Harrington.
"Willow?" A gentle voice came from behind.
Willow turned around with her mouth full.
"Is it really you? I almost didn't recognize you. The qipao suits you. Beautiful." Lucas's eyes lit up.
Lucas?
"Xingyan? What are you doing here?" Willow was a little surprised to see Lucas at the dinner party.
Lucas handed Willow a handkerchief, gesturing for her to wipe her mouth.
"Ah, thank you." Willow took the handkerchief and wiped her mouth embarrassedly.
"Today is the Harrington family's ball," Lucas said with a smile.
Willow nodded.
"What a coincidence, you both have the same surname."
Wait, no.
Harrington's Harrington?
Willow suddenly realized and looked sharply at Lucas.
"Hmm, I don't think I mentioned it? My brother is Ethan Harrington. I went to study in Canada before and only came back this year. I don't really participate in the family business much," Lucas said.
"Ah..." Willow nodded blankly.
Right, at her high school, who wasn't rich?
Except for her.
Thinking of this, she was going to fight these rich people.
"By the way, how is your painting going?" Lucas asked.
"Not bad, pretty smooth. I should be able to give it to you next week," Willow said a little excitedly.
She hoped he would like it!
"Okay, no rush. Take your time," Lucas nodded.
"So, today... did Adrian bring you here?" Lucas asked.
"No, I came with Sophie today," Willow said.
"Little Willow, let's go!" Speak of the devil.
Sophie came running over in her high heels, a little out of breath.
This guy looked familiar.
Lucas! The doctor who was trying to steal his brother's corner!
"What are you doing here?" Sophie asked.
"Today is my brother's ball," Lucas explained patiently again.
"You're the Harrington family's youngest son who came back from studying abroad this year!" Sophie's eyes went wide.
"Hmm, hello," Lucas nodded.
Oh no, he was rich too. Her brother's only advantage was no longer an advantage. Sophie sighed for her brother.
At this moment, Sophie suddenly noticed Willow winking at her frantically.
"What's wrong, Little Willow? Are your eyes uncomfortable?" Sophie asked.
Willow: Teammate from hell. Can't carry this.
"Well, if it isn't Sophie? Long. Time. No. See." Dr. Harrington emphasized each word, speaking through gritted teeth.
The voice of the King of Hell. Was this what it sounded like? Was she about to die? Sophie thought to herself.
Her entire body froze, mechanically turning around.
"Ah, hi, long time no see, Dr. Harrington." Sophie greeted Dr. Harrington stiffly.
"Oh, so you still remember who I am. I thought after you ran away from the hotel that day..." Sophie shot forward like an arrow and covered Dr. Harrington's mouth.
Keep it down! Was this something to be proud of?!!!
"Ahahaha." Sophie laughed and turned to look at Lucas.
"We're just joking," Sophie laughed it off.
Lucas coughed and looked away. He hadn't heard anything.
Sophie wanted to say something else when suddenly her whole body was lifted into the air. She let out a surprised cry, drawing some attention.
"Little Willow, we're going to take care of some private business." Dr. Harrington smiled insincerely at Willow.
Then, without caring whether it was in front of everyone, he slung Sophie over his shoulder and carried her away under the watchful eyes of the crowd.
What? Could he give her some face? Sophie's eyes went wide as she struggled.
After a few hard smacks on her bottom from Dr. Harrington, she went quiet.
......
Sophie: I might as well die.
Watching Sophie being carried away, Willow sighed. She knew she couldn't run forever.
Sophie being carried away: Wait, she forgot something very important.
