Sophie walked out of the elevator wearing sunglasses, carrying bags of gifts from her trip. She struggled to free a hand to take off her glasses.
"Willow, why did you come out from over there? Did you move?" Sophie tilted her head, puzzled.
Willow quickly covered Sophie's mouth with one hand and dragged her into the apartment.
"What happened?" Sophie looked at Willow in confusion. She had been sitting there in a daze for a quarter of an hour.
Sophie had a whole stomach of questions.
She had only been gone for a little while—how had Willow become like this?
"The apartment across the hall is..." Sophie started to ask.
"Lucas." Willow said blankly.
"What! The apartment across the hall is Lucas's? You... he!!!!" Sophie shrieked, unable to form coherent sentences. Her trembling finger pointing at Willow—when did this happen?
"Lucas is the school senior from high school!" Willow turned to Sophie.
"What?" Sophie didn't quite understand.
"The school senior you had me write a confession letter to in high school—that was Lucas!" Willow was still trying to process this information.
"..."
Now it was Sophie's turn to be stunned.
"Wait—are you saying Lucas is the school senior you had me write the confession letter to in high school? And he moved right across the hall from you?" Sophie's voice got higher with each question.
Willow held her forehead and nodded.
My head hurts!
"Oh my god! He was the guy I liked in high school! Although, he is indeed very handsome." Sophie confirmed her own judgment once again.
Was that the point... Willow thought helplessly.
"So he's liked you since high school!!" Sophie suddenly had a revelation.
Willow nodded, looking troubled.
"Oh my god! What a novel protagonist's love story!" Sophie couldn't help but exclaim. How romantic!
Brother, you're really done for! Your opponent is too strong. What do I do!!! And he was even a guy I picked myself.
Heaven help me—if my brother found out, I'd be dead!
"So what now? He's even moved across the hall to pursue you." Sophie paced back and forth. The situation was dire!
She had only been gone a little over a week! (Okay, half a month was indeed a little over a week.)
"So... what do you feel about him?" Sophie probed Willow's attitude.
Willow lay on the dining table without speaking.
Sophie immediately tensed up.
"Are you going to accept him?" Sophie asked again.
"I haven't sorted through my last relationship yet. How can I start a new one? It wouldn't be fair to Lucas either. And..." Willow looked at her belly, tousling her hair. She was troubled.
If she had to say what her feelings toward Lucas were—
It was more gratitude and guilt. She did have goodwill toward him, but more like a brother rather than romantic feelings.
Lucas said he loved her... It felt so heavy. Willow thought.
Willow closed her eyes, unwilling to think anymore.
"Forget it. If you don't want to think about it, let's not think about it. By the way, I brought a lot of gifts for you and the baby from City A this time. Open them!" Sophie cleverly changed the subject.
Willow nodded and started opening gifts with Sophie.
Looking at the adorable and beautiful little clothes laid out, Willow's mood finally improved a bit.
But...
"Sophie, are these all for girls?" Willow asked. What if it was a boy?
"It has to be a girl! I have a feeling!" Sophie said with certainty.
Willow laughed and packed up the clothes.
"Willow, I have to go. There's a party at home tonight. I need to get ready." Sophie checked the time and said.
"Okay, go ahead." Willow nodded.
It was a good time for her to sort through her thoughts alone.
As Sophie left, she glanced at the apartment across the hall and remembered Lucas. No wonder he looked so familiar when she first saw him.
She shook her head. Brother, you're on your own.
"Sigh..."
This was the Nth sigh Sophie had let out that evening.
"Sophie, what's wrong?" Lucas felt a chill down his spine. He hadn't done anything, had he? They had enjoyed a lovely mini vacation together.
Sophie glanced at Lucas and sighed deeply yet again.
"Sophie, long time no see." A familiar voice spoke up.
Oh, the flashy troublemaker.
Sophie turned to look at Lina Sterling.
"I'm not in a good mood. Don't look for trouble." Sophie warned Lina Sterling in advance.
"What's wrong? Is it because your brother divorced Willow?" Lina Sterling had a smug look on her face.
Sophie whipped her head around.
"How did you know?" Sophie frowned. After all, they hadn't announced anything.
The next second, she immediately thought of Olivia.
A whole nest of flashy troublemakers!!!
"Take it easy. You'll find a better sister-in-law. Someone like Willow shouldn't be in our circle anyway." Lina Sterling said, looking at Willow with disgust.
"What kind of person? What circle? A pig pen?" Catherine's voice rang out behind her.
She didn't forget to give Sophie a disdainful look.
Usually so sharp-tongued at home, but outside her mouth said nothing! Useless thing.
That sentence, Sophie completely read from Catherine's expression.
Mother, I'm useless!!!
"Auntie..." Lina Sterling, of course, didn't have Catherine's combat power. Her face turned red as she greeted her.
"Who's your auntie? I don't run in your pig pen." Catherine smoothed her hair. Always maintain one's image.
Elegant, so elegant.
"Auntie, you didn't like Willow either, right? Now that they're divorced, that's a good thing. Mr. Adrian deserves someone better." Lina Sterling said.
"Who told you I didn't like Willow? Are you out of your mind?" Catherine looked at Lina Sterling incredulously.
Lina Sterling: But you said it yourself...
"I said my own child can be criticized by me. Who are you to comment on my daughter-in-law?" Catherine disdainfully glanced at Lina Sterling.
"Who are you?" Catherine added.
"Lina Sterling, Olivia's cousin. A distant relative of the Sterling family." Sophie very eagerly reported to her mother.
"Oh~" Catherine drawled.
Lina Sterling breathed a sigh of relief. Being Olivia's cousin should make things better, right? She wondered what she had done to offend her.
"Remove her." Catherine said to the housekeeper behind her.
And so, in front of everyone... Lina Sterling was actually escorted out by security.
The people around who had been gossiping about Adrian and Willow's divorce all now busied themselves taking photos of Lina Sterling's humiliation.
Catherine glanced from afar at her son, drinking alone. She shook her head. A mother could only help so much.
Thinking of Willow, then looking at the escorted-out troublemaker—heartbreaking! Day N of missing Willow. Catherine clutched her heart and turned to leave.
Adrian sat to the side, face dark, drinking wine. He looked like someone who didn't want to be approached. The drama in the distance had nothing to do with him.
Looking at her brother's gloomy state, Sophie couldn't help but walk over.
"Brother..." Sophie called out.
Adrian snapped back to reality.
"Have you gone to see her lately?" Adrian swirling the wine in his glass asked.
Sophie, of course, knew who "she" was referring to.
"I went today." Sophie answered honestly.
"Is she..." Adrian wanted to ask many things.
In the end, he only asked...
"Is she okay?" Just that one question.
Sophie nodded. She was fine. You, on the other hand, don't look so good. Sophie wanted to say that.
"Brother, Lucas moved in across from Willow's place. Do you know about this?" Sophie asked.
Adrian caught the key point.
So they weren't living together—Lucas just moved across from her?
Adrian jumped to his feet.
This startled Sophie.
