Willow spent a week living a blissful life of eating and sleeping, sleeping and eating. As it turned out, what she really couldn't live without was Mrs. Wright!
Before she knew it, the day of the reunion arrived. Sophie showed up at Willow's door bright and early.
"Sophie, why so early? Isn't it in the afternoon?" Willow was clearly still half-asleep.
"I knew you wouldn't bother dressing up, so I came early to pick you up. It's our high school reunion! You're not going to show up looking casual, are you?" Sophie had that I-knew-it look on her face.
"Why not?" Willow looked at her, puzzled.
"It's not a blind date."
Sophie shook her head.
"There are no ugly women, only lazy ones!"
So she dragged the still-half-asleep Willow to her regular salon and thoughtfully prepared a beautiful, loose-fitting dress for her.
Willow helplessly let Sophie fuss over her like she was Sophie's personal doll.
"Nice. Perfect." Sophie looked at her masterpiece - Willow - with satisfaction.
Willow looked a little uncomfortable.
"Does it need to be this formal? I just wanted to see our old teacher," Willow said.
"Nonono, you don't get it. What's the most important thing at a reunion? It's about showing how well you're doing! Of course you need to dress up," Sophie said, finally satisfied with Willow's look before turning to work on her own.
Willow waited so long for Sophie that she almost fell asleep. Just as she was about to doze off-
"Let's go! Time for our grand entrance!" Sophie dramatically stepped into her ten-centimeter high heels.
Willow's eyes went wide. Sophie was already tall, and with those heels, Willow looked like a child standing next to her. Willow didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
So what started as an early departure turned into them almost being late...
---
Willow and Sophie arrived at the school gate together. Looking at the familiar entrance, Willow couldn't help but sigh at how fast time flew. It felt like just yesterday she was preparing for art school exams, and now she was about to become a mother...
"Willow." A tall, slender figure was waiting for her at the gate.
"You look beautiful today." Lucas looked at the dressed up Willow and complimented her with a smile.
Willow felt embarrassed by the praise, her cheeks flushing slightly.
Watching Lucas greet them, Sophie scratched her head. This person... looked so familiar. Where had she seen him before?
She couldn't figure it out after thinking for a while.
"Willow, who is this?" Sophie asked curiously.
"Ah, let me introduce you. This is Lucas, our senior. He's also my attending physician," Willow introduced him to Sophie, quietly adding the last part.
"Ah, hello, hello." Sophie politely greeted Lucas.
The three of them headed toward the school auditorium together.
Sophie kept looking around, as if searching for someone.
When the three of them walked into the auditorium, the originally noisy hall instantly grew much quieter.
Willow felt a little awkward and hid slightly behind Sophie.
"Come on, let's go find our old teacher." Sophie pulled Willow toward a small old man surrounded by people.
"Hey, old teacher, you're looking well!" Sophie greeted their class teacher with a smile.
"Sophie, Willow! You two are finally here! You were always late for school, and you're still late now!" the old teacher's blustering, wide-eyed expression made Willow miss him terribly.
"It's all Sophie's fault. She loved being pretty even back in school. I was always dragged down by her," Willow complained.
"Alright, alright, you're here now. You've all grown up," the class teacher said with emotion.
"Go on, go get something to eat."
Willow nodded and went with Sophie to get some cake.
"It's been so long, but our old teacher is still the same. I miss those school days so much~" Sophie said.
Willow nodded.
School days...
Willow remembered how her math grades were so bad in high school that our old teacher was always calling her parents in. Every time, her grandfather would get scolded for ages. There was even a period when her grandfather would flinch every time the phone rang. So Adrian was given a military order - he had to get her grades up.
Back then, every evening after dinner, she would report to Adrian's room for tutoring. What Willow looked forward to most was those nightly study sessions - those precious moments alone with Adrian. The faint scent of mint on him always made her feel at ease.
Thinking of this, Willow's mood couldn't help but sink a little.
If she could, Willow would rather turn back time to those days.
"Little Willow, I'm going to catch up with some people. You eat by yourself, okay?" Sophie hadn't seen her classmates in ages and was bursting with gossip!!
Willow nodded and stood obediently to the side eating cake.
"Well, well, look who it is. If it isn't the Ashford family's little parasite."
At every class reunion, there was always some spiteful person who showed up. That was why Willow didn't really like attending reunions. If it hadn't been organized by our old teacher this time, she wouldn't have come.
And Lina Sterling was that spiteful person. That's right - the Sterling family name, as in Olivia's family. She was Olivia's cousin.
Because she knew all about her cousin's history with Adrian, Lina Sterling hated Willow with the same burning passion. Because Olivia and Adrian's breakup meant she couldn't get any benefits either.
Finally catching Willow alone, how could Lina Sterling let this opportunity pass? So Lina Sterling held her wine glass and looked at Willow, who had cake crumbs all over her mouth, with disgust.
Willow was enjoying her food when she heard Lina Sterling's words and choked, coughing. She took a big gulp of juice to recover.
"What's wrong? Adrian didn't come with you? Looks like he doesn't care that much about you after all. Know where he is? At the hospital keeping my cousin company," Lina Sterling said with a smug look.
"My condolences," Willow nodded.
"Con... condolences?! My cousin is perfectly fine!" Lina Sterling's eyes went wide, glaring fiercely at Willow.
Willow shrugged. So hard to kill.
"If you ask me, you should take a good look in the mirror. Do you have anything in common with Adrian? You're from two different worlds. You should just let him and my cousin be together. My cousin is the one who deserves to stand by Adrian's side," Lina Sterling crossed her arms and looked at Willow coldly.
Willow tilted her head and thought for a moment.
"Do our two-character names count?" Willow asked, looking at Lina Sterling.
"Wh... what??" Lina Sterling was completely thrown off by Willow's unexpected answer.
By the time she came back to her senses, Willow had already turned to leave.
"You ugly duckling. You only got lucky because your grandfather died, and you climbed your way up above your station. You're occupying the nest without laying eggs! Shameless!" Lina Sterling was furious at Willow, grabbing her wrist and cursing at her, refusing to let her go.
Willow turned around and slapped Lina Sterling across the face.
Then Willow thought - so Adrian was the nest?
Lina Sterling held her face in disbelief.
She had actually dared to hit her.
Lina Sterling trembled with rage, raising her hand to deliver a vicious slap back to Willow.
Just then, two figures suddenly rushed over.
One pulled Willow into their arms. The other grabbed Lina Sterling's wrist tightly.
"Ow! It hurts!" Lina Sterling cried out in pain.
She looked closely.
"Senior Harrington?" Lina Sterling was livid.
Were all the excellent men in the world protecting this vixen?
"A girl acting like this is rather ugly, don't you think?" Lucas looked at Lina Sterling with a dark expression.
Lucas's demeanor completely terrified Lina Sterling.
Willow had thought she was about to get beaten, but thankfully she had struck first.
Just as she was waiting with her eyes closed, suddenly a tall, warm embrace enveloped her.
That familiar scent of mint...
Willow froze.
She looked up. Adrian's head was bowed down, and their eyes met.
Since their last parting, they hadn't seen each other in a week.
Suddenly seeing Adrian, Willow felt her heart tighten.
He had lost weight... and looked somewhat haggard. Remembering what Lina Sterling had just said, was it because he had been opting care of Olivia? Willow's eyes dimmed.
"Are you stupid? Just standing there letting that ugly woman hit you?" Adrian frowned at Willow.
??? Ugly woman??? Lina Sterling was about to explode.
"You dare hit Willow? I'll beat you to death!" From afar, a woman in ten-centimeter heels came charging over, raising her high heel to smash it down on Lina Sterling's head.
Sophie knew she had worn the right shoes today. Even if they weren't glamorous enough for the whole room, they were certainly lethal enough for this woman.
"My ancestor, please calm down." Zane scooped Sophie up by the waist to stop her assault.
"Why are you two so late! Put me down! I'll beat her to death!" Sophie glared viciously at Zane.
"Don't make a scene. Give your brother some room to perform," Zane winked at Sophie.
Sophie finally caught on.
A hero saving the beauty!
Wait... why were there two heroes?
