10. Attack Begins!

1040 Words
“Fine, I’ll wait for that day,” Xiao Tianzi replied with a sly smile. “Waiting for a beauty like Miss Shen is never a loss.” Meanwhile, Yu Ling noticed his younger brother walking out while clutching Shen Ji’s wrist. He quickly drained his wine in one gulp, then seized the still-sealed wine jar beside him. Rising from his seat, he staggered after Yu Zhen and Shen Ji, shouting, “Zhen’er! Wait for me!” Shen Ji struggled to keep up with Yu Zhen’s wide and fast strides. Worse still, Yu Ling followed closely behind, occasionally drinking from the jar as he chased them. The fat girl disliked the smell of wine, but thankfully Yu Ling was not too close to her. In moments, the three of them disappeared from the sight of everyone at the banquet. “Sister Qian, look! The young man following Young Master Yu Zhen, isn’t he Young Master Yu Ling, your future husband?” Guo Yan asked, watching Yu Ling’s back as he staggered away. “Maybe he is. I don’t know him well,” Shi Qian answered flatly. She had no interest in knowing Yu Ling. From her words, her dislike was clear. “Maybe? Sister Qian, don’t you like him?” Guo Yan asked in disbelief. “How could a man as handsome as Young Master Yu Ling not be desired?” “Mmhh,” Shi Qian muttered without expression. “So, you really don’t like him at all?” Guo Yan pressed. “But he’s so handsome. Why not?” “Don’t like him means don’t like him. If you like him, take him,” Shi Qian snapped, ignoring the man she loathed. “Wait, you’re giving me a chance to pursue Young Master Yu Ling?” Guo Yan asked in surprise. “That’s impossible!” “Even if I admired a man, I would never fight for someone else’s fiancé. Do you think he’s the only man in the world?” Guo Yan said firmly. “And I ....” Shi Qian’s eyes hardened, gazing at the empty air before her. “Even if fate forced him to marry me, I would never willingly be his wife.” “Yo, you say that now, but let’s see. I’ll bet one day you will still marry him,” Guo Yan teased with confidence. Shi Qian replied coldly, “I don’t like gambling. But I can assure you, I won’t ever serve that perverted man.” “Don’t like it, or don’t dare?” Guo Yan asked, twirling the teacup in her hand. Shi Qian remained silent, her face clouded as she suppressed a pile of irritation in her chest. "You didn’t answer me, which means you don’t dare to bet with me. Never mind, there are plenty of words that end up being swallowed back after being thrown away, and I hope you’re not that kind of person. Just remember, even a dog doesn’t want to lick back its own spit once it’s thrown out." A scathing sarcasm escaped Guo Yan’s lips. Shi Qin, Shi Qian’s younger sister, grew increasingly annoyed. Guo Yan’s mouth—wasn’t it made of flesh? Couldn’t she control what she said? "You!" Shi Qin pointed at Guo Yan and wanted to slap the girl’s mouth. "Never mind. Just let her be." Shi Qian gently held her sister’s hand, restraining her from doing anything reckless. "Don’t forget, Qin-Qin. We are guests, and she is the host. Don’t make any more trouble with her." "Humph!" Shi Qin had to give up her plans helplessly, even though her heart was still burning with anger. "Married to a drunken womanizer like him… I would rather hang my neck from a tree branch or throw myself into the lake," Shi Qian muttered inwardly. The girl sat gracefully, though her expression looked lazy and indifferent. "Okay, everyone! Let’s just forget what happened. Shouldn’t we enjoy tonight and have fun?" Guo Yan asked her friends. "That’s right, that fat girl just ruined our festive event," said Xiao Si Tian as she dragged Shen Xu by the arm. "Shen Xu, come sit with me! That way, the young masters will notice me too." Xiao Si Tian was still trying to pull Shen Xu’s hand to sit beside her again. "Sister Yan, why isn’t there a show? Doesn’t it feel bland and boring?" Shi Qin asked as she grabbed a sprig of green grapes. "You all want a show? Fine!" Guo Yan, the landlady’s daughter, clapped her hands several times. Not long after, seven female dancers appeared in clothes that made the men immediately widen their eyes. The men’s gazes seemed unwilling to blink as they saw the row of beautiful women in pink hanfu, with sleeves flowing and slits open up to the thighs. They danced gracefully, their bodies swaying in rhythm with the melodious oriental music. "Brother, let’s continue our show. Look, the dancers are no less beautiful than the young ladies!" Xiao Si Tian exclaimed while clapping her hands. Xiao Tianzi immediately sat back in his original seat. Even though the women danced seductively, the young master of the Xiao Family kept his eyes on Shen Xu, who sat beside his younger sister, Xiao Si Tian. While everyone was immersed in the banquet’s pleasures, a sudden fight broke out in the backyard of the Guo Family residence. A group of masked figures jumped down from the high fence surrounding the residence. They brutally killed the guards and servants within the compound. Screams of pain and cries of death echoed from the backyard. The guards fought desperately, but the attackers—clad entirely in black—pointed their weapons at anyone they encountered. One guard, who barely managed to escape the deadly arena, secretly ran to the inner hall through a hidden passage. "Big Master!" The servant’s hurried voice shocked everyone in the inner hall. Simultaneously, they turned to the man whose clothes were stained with blood. A sharp wound across his shoulder kept oozing fresh red. The women instinctively screamed while covering their faces, horrified and terrified. "Report, Big Master! A group of masked people have attacked us from the backyard!" shouted the guard, panting heavily as his face turned pale.
