SHE WASN'T HIS FATE

1088 Words
That was the mall she had just left. It had an Italian name, and no one knew for sure who the mysterious owner was. A mall where billionaires, elites and the rich and wealthy shopped , yet she had to use her savings to get something for everyone. Then Phoebe is asking her to purchase a gown worth millions. Maya will have to take several loans to get the money. “ I just came back from the mall. I got many things. I literally made a scene in which they forbid me from coming back from the store” Maya lied, her palms resting on her head as a headache began to throb. She had to make up a lie to avoid Phoebe from constant nagging. “Don’t worry, when I visit here again, I will get many things for you,” Maya said, trying to sound convincing, though she knew deep down that the next time will never come again. Phoebe was silent, her expression thoughtful as she searched for another alternative. “I will be back tomorrow," Maya said, before she hung up. Maya sighed as she dropped her phone on the bed. If she waited for Phoebe to utter a word she would be finished. Phoebe always found a solution and Maya wasn’t ready for it. She couldn’t bring herself to tell her that David was the reason, she couldn't return to the mall, nor did she want to get herself broke, more like poor. Maya finished arranging her luggage, and looked at the room one more time, before she checked out of the hotel. She got to the airport, her mind finally relaxed as she’s about to end her holiday in peace, certain that nothing would go wrong these last few hours. “Welcome aboard..” The flight attendant said with a warm smile.. Maya returned the smile. The airplane got on air while Maya got the chance to recall everywhere she had gone too and gave an accomplished smile to herself. …… At the airport exit, Maya’s eyes were locked onto her wristwatch as she waited for Phoebe to come and pick her up. Suddenly, a black Porsche 911 GTS car pulled up at her front, the window tinted so she couldn’t see the person from the outside. The window gradually winded down. “Hop in,” A deep voice uttered, his hands on the steering as his gaze moved to Maya, while smirking. Maya's facial expression changed, her eyebrows slightly raised up as she stared at him speechless. “If this was set up by Phoebe, I will cook her alive!!” Maya began swearing for Phoebe in her mind. “I saw you at the airport on my way out, it seems like we landed at the same time. What a coincidence!!” David said and smirked, as if he could read her mind. “No, thank you, I am waiting for someone, he will be here anytime soon.” Maya lied. David's eyes darkened, “Phoebe won’t come.” “I am not waiting for her.” Maya quickly objected to him. “You’ve had one minute to decide before I leave.” David glanced at this wristwatch. Maya looked around the airport. The taxi here will cost her a lot to get to her destination and if Phoebe is not picking her anymore, she better grab the opportunity, not like she has nothing to lose. “A free ride will save her money.” She convinced herself as she got into the car. Without waiting for Maya to put on her seat belt, David smirked and zoomed off. After Maya reached her home she quickly ran to the toilet about to vomit because of David driving. After a few minutes, she felt better, recalling what just happened. She tightened her hands. David calm down.. Maya shouted above her lungs, her hands gripping onto the car seat. David smiled, his eyebrows slightly up, “This is a sports car, I can't control it.” He said, acting clueless. Throughout the ride, Maya was uncomfortable, silently praying not to die. ……… “So happy that you finally came to visit me,” The lady with the short brown hair uttered, who was in a hospital gown. “ I am calling off the engagement!” David uttered coldly. She slowly lifted her eyes “Don’t forget the promises you made to my grandfather.” “I promised him out of gratitude, but I never loved you,” he took a breath then continued. “And you know that! You knew I loved someone for many years!” “If you don’t marry me you will get a lot of challenges in the company, the stocks will reduce in value and investors will pull out!” She slowly reminded him, hoping he would change his mind. David's eyes darkened, while he was speechless for some time. “Stella!” He gently called out her name. “I am a business man, I don’t miss personal matters with my business. I made this decision. I will bear the consequences for my Decision….” He dragged out the last word so she will know he has made up his mind. She sighed… she had loved him for years before she convinced her grandfather to invest in his company to get closer to him. But David has made his intentions clear that he was waiting for fate to meet him. She wasn’t his fate… he doesn’t like her just sees her like a business partner. She convinced her that maybe fate will change one day and he will love her but it didn’t. She had to get engaged to him through her grandfather's last wish before he passed away. David slowly moved to the door, about to pull the door open. Determination filled her eyes, “ I am not going to stop loving you! Your family loves me, they won’t let you marry another person.” He turned to look at her once more and left without saying a word. He could hear the sound of her tears behind the closed doors. His expression remained unreadable. I guess fate can’t be denied….. David drove directly to his house. The butler was surprised to see him back so soon. He had just left for a business trip yesterday. “Welcome sir.” The butler smiled, He returned the smile. “Tell Jess to get the guest room ready, we have an important guest coming over soon.”
