CHAPTER ONE

Briana's Point Of View My alarm clock woke me up from my slumber. I hissed and went back to bed again. This time, I put my phone on silent to avoid getting disturbing calls that would ruin my perfect day. I had already told myself that I wasn't going to stress myself for the day. The plan was to remain in my room all day without stepping outside. That was the only opportunity I had to rest before my parents returned from their vacation in the Maldives. While I slept, I heard a loud knock on the door. At first, I didn't pay attention because I thought it was all a dream. I heard the same knock again and this time, it became louder than the first time. At that point, it dawned on me that It wasn't a dream after all. Rather, it was the reality. Immediately, I dashed to the living room in my pajamas. Deep down, I suspected it was my parents knocking. They were the only ones capable of banging the door like that. At the same time, I figured out the impossibility because the last time I checked, my parents clarified that they would be staying in the Maldives for a few days. “I am coming right away. "Take it easy,” I yelled at whoever was banging the door so hard without finding out who it was. As I opened the door, I was shocked to discover that it wasn't my parents like I had predicted. To my greatest surprise, I met my boyfriend, Omarion, and my best friend, Tasha, at my doorstep. I looked into Tasha's eyes and all I saw was a shattered heart. Her eyelids were filled with tears ready to drop. “Tasha, Omarion, what is going on? "You two don't seem too good," I asked them with a faint tone. The sight of them freaked the living daylight out of me. Omarion had never shown up that early in my home, let alone with Tasha. “Can someone please talk to me? "What the heck is going on?” I wailed like a pathetic widow. My heart was pounding faster like the drums of war. Words failed me to express how flabbergasted I was to see the people who mattered to me acting that way. “No matter what happens, I will always be there for you. "I promise not to leave you alone in the dark,” Omarion said to me as he came closer to embrace me. My brain was sending a signal to my heart. I was already sensing danger from afar. Unfortunately for me, I just couldn't fathom where the problem was. And Tasha? She wasn't making the situation any better. Her constant tears were tearing my soul apart. I pulled myself away from Omarion. “Now this is it. I am done tolerating your s**t. If you are not ready to speak up at this minute, then you might as well leave before I do something stupid.” “It's about your parents,” Tasha finally summoned the courage to speak. She spoke so fast, as though she had a gun pointed at her head. “What about my parents?” I asked in anticipation. I got closer to Tasha and pulled her shirt. “Tasha, I ask you again, what about my parents?” When I noticed that she wasn't ready to speak, I took it upon myself to call my parents. A thousand times I called and not for once, did they respond. I logged on to my social media and texted them. Sadly, it was the same thing. Suddenly, I got a notification from a blog about a certain auto-crash that took the lives of some aged couples. My hands quivered as I read the main news. Deep down, I was wishing it wasn't the news I was expecting. Behold, I saw my parents’ photos attached to the news as the couple that died in a private auto-crash. Instantly, my phone dropped to the ground as I screamed my lungs out. The veins around my neck nearly popped out. It took the joint effort of Tasha and Omarion to calm me down. I was too shocked to speak. It seemed like my vocal cords were destroyed completely. “Please tell me this ain't true. My parents can't be dead. "I spoke with them yesterday before they took off to the Maldives,” I asked Tasha. Plenty of questions hoarded in my head that I might not get the answers to. “I am so sorry, Briana. We found out about it this morning. We had to rush here quickly. "We were scared that you might have hurt yourself,” Tasha explained as I rested my head on Omarion's chest and cried my eyes out. I wept to the point where I exhausted all the tears in my eyes. “If only they had listened to me. "I warned them not to embark on that trip, but no one paid attention to me,” I lamented. I already had a terrible nightmare a few days ago which I warned my parents about. Unfortunately, they thought I was joking. I was confident that none of that would have happened if only they had adhered to my warning. It only became worse knowing that I couldn't do anything to bring my parents back again. Just when I thought my mysteries were over, I heard another knock on the door. Without waiting for my response, two men dressed in black suits walked inside the living room. Tasha and I glared at each other as we shared a telling look. We have yet to understand who the men were and what they wanted. “I bet this is the Knowles residence, and you are his daughter?” One of the men asked me. Reluctantly, I replied, “Yes, and who are you? You haven't introduced yourself to us.” My patience was slowly running out. I was afraid that I was going to do something stupid. “We come in peace, ma'am. We are from the Keystone Bank. Before your father's untimely demise, he approached our firm for a loan and used this house as collateral. Unfortunately, he couldn't keep up with his bargain. "For that reason, we have to confiscate this mansion,” one of them explained. And when I doubted them, they showed me some documents to back their claims. Upon hearing the shocking news, I started losing my sanity and vision. I could barely recognize anyone anymore. My situation got messier the moment my vision became blank. I staggered until I collapsed to the ground. That was the last thing I remembered!
