Of The Moon

Chapter 3: Mate

Dax's pov:

"FIND HER" I roar. I'm running back to the castle, hoping we have missed something. My pup, my baby girl, my beautiful munchkin, is missing. She just disappeared. I cannot scent her or sense her. My heart is in my throat. My mate, she will be furious if I find her, only to tell her I've lost our little miracle.

How did anyone get past my guards? How did they even get past me? My baby girl is goddess knows where and here we are with nothing to go on.

She has been gone for almost ten hours now. Bane, my wolf, paced around in my head for the first seven or eight hours at least. He has seemed to settle down since, which confuses me. (Why aren't you still losing your mind with me?) I asked him. He takes a few minutes to respond, which is also odd. (She is okay, her wolf will not tell me where she is, only that she is safe from harm and she will be home soon) My whole body begins to relax as I walk into Fate's bedroom. (Wait a minute. How long have you known this Bane?) (I have been trying to communicate with her wolf for hours, I finally got through.) He growls in frustration. I guess he's not as calm as I had thought. (Tell her to come home this instant!) I snap, losing my patience, I need my little munchkin. (She says she'll shimmer in soon) he replied a few minutes later. I squinted my eyes in thought. She must be with Claire. She's the only shimmering fairy we know.

Suddenly, the most amazing smell of lemon cookies hits our noses and Bane starts howling in my head. (Who's smell is that Bane?) He doesn't answer, he just keeps bouncing around howling in happiness. Suddenly, the room temperature changed. My skin heats up, and right in front of my eyes my munchkin appears giggling with Claire and another woman who appears to have been hurt. (MATE) my wolf says and I freeze. Every cell in my body is alight with electricity.

I step forward just in time to catch the sleeping beauty. My skin lights up with sparks, I smile "mate, you have finally found me!" With tears in my eyes, I cannot keep the joy out of my voice. I lay my beautiful mate down on Fate's bed to check her over. She may need medical attention. (Max get the doctor. Send him to Fate's bedroom. NOW!) I tell my Beta through mindlink and block him just as quickly, I don't need any questions right now. "Mommy's okay daddy, she's just no good at shimmering yet." My munchkin says with a giggle. "Are you sure? I think she looks so thin. Where have you been? Claire, thank you for bringing them to me. How did you find them?" I am still staring at my motionless mate. Wow, she is stunning. Even with all the dirt, and goddess knows what else on her. No wonder our munchkin is the most beautiful child I've ever seen. She looks just like her mother. Beautiful white hair with a delicate jaw and a tiny little button nose. She was short compared to me, but most are. She might be about five foot four or so.

My heart feels like it could explode. I have raised our child since the goddess led Claire to me almost five years ago. The moon goddess told me my mate would come to me when the time was right, but that we would need our little Fate sooner than that.

Fate came into this world shortly after and I have been nothing shy of obsessed with her since. Her wolf first surfaced when she was two and she had her first shift by the time she was three. Our little munchkin is so special. Most wolves do not shift until they are sixteen. Some do not shift until they meet their mate. Our baby is a beautiful white wolf, but we cannot tell anyone as she is not strong enough to protect herself yet. White wolves are powerful and rare. They are believed to be a direct creation of our beloved moon goddess.

"Okay, first I didn't find them..they came to me. She is sleeping because she needs it.. she passed out mid shimmer. Just like you did the first time. I had to grab Fate before we got here." Clair chuckled but continued seriously "Don't be mad at me, but he took her because he knew I birthed her. He thinks she is my daughter and that I would want her back." Claire says. "Who? Who took her? Took her where?" I asked. "The goddess will not allow me to reveal that yet, but soon. She says you need to concentrate on your family for now. Your mate, she has been alone and hiding most of her life. She has survived up until this point because she is strong, but she will need your strength as well to protect herself and Fate. Her family has done their best to protect her, but she has grown up making people believe she is wolf-less. People are not always kind but that is her story to tell," Claire says while looking at her feet. She knows I do not like her answer. This is my mate and our daughter. I need to know everything! (Her wolf, she is so beautiful. Our mate is another white wolf. A white Alpha wolf) Bane is swooning in my head, already so in love with them both. (An Alpha white has never been heard of Bane. Are you certain?) I hear Bane scoff (of course I'm certain. I am an Alpha Wolf. Trust me, I know when I feel another Alpha.) He's a little mad that I questioned him. (Sorry Bane, I didn't mean to offend you.) (It's okay human. I know you can't feel her yet. Her wolf says she needs nourishment, they are tired and hungry.) That makes me jump into action. They need food. I can handle that.

There was a knock on the door. Bane surfaces, his instincts to protect kick in, with a virility I have never felt before, he growls out through me, "no one comes near my mate or my pup!" My munchkin giggles and Bane settles a little from the sound. She has been our main life resource for four years. "silly wolfie, it's just the doctor, I can smell him." She giggles a little more with her nose in the air and I cant help the smile that comes to my face.

"Enter" I said to the doctor. Doctor Beck enters the room with his bag. He looks like he ran here from the pack hospital and I am once again so thankful for my pack. Behind him is my Beta and best friend, Max.

"Oh thank the goddess you found her! What are we going to do with you, Muncie?" Max uses Fate's nickname he gave her when she first started walking. "Uncle Max! I found my mommy!" My little munchkin launches herself from Claire, into Max's arms as he stumbles slightly. Only now noticing my sleeping beauty. His shock is soon replaced with joy. "Our Luna and Queen has finally come. I'm so happy for you brother." Max slaps my back, smiling so wide I think his face might crack, but honestly I can't wipe the smile from mine either. He's right. Our Queen has finally come home!

The doctor went straight to my mate when he came in. Checking her over gently so not to aggravate Bane or myself. "Alpha, she is tired. It seems her wolf is too tired to heal her as well. I am going to start some fluids and give her some vitamins and steroids to help her wolf get the nourishment she needs to help her heal more quickly" Doctor Beck begins running tubes and prepping needles. He begins to place the needle close to her arm and I growl. "Be gentle doctor, Bane is holding on by a thread." The doctor swallows hard, "I am sorry Alpha I can't help her without them or I would!" He says with as much confidence as he can muster with Bane surfacing "I know but I don't like it" Bane growls out. "Continue doctor, he's okay, just protective. I don't even know her name yet." I say, barely whispering the last part.
