BOUND
Chapter One:
Cyrus
I stand propped up against a stone wall, flicking my lighter open and closed against my leg, as I observe the wait-staff. Moving about the grand room as they pour glasses of champagne for the fountain, and carry food from room to room preparing for tonight.
It was hard to believe tonight was the ceremony.
Had it really been an entire year already?
I let out a deep sigh, and finally light my smoke as I inhale a drag from the cigarette. It was a dirty habit, but by far not my worst. Mother would be furious if she caught me smoking in the estate, but then again I didn’t mind making her fuss.
The preparations for the ceremony tonight were already in full swing. Which wasn’t surprising in the slightest. Rows of trucks lined the drive, each with its own purpose and vendor logo on the side. Tables were draped in white silk sheets and being lined against the back walls, and set for the evening. The finest dinner ware, laid out and centered perfectly.
Just like every other year, tonight had taken up most of my mother’s free time over the course of the last month. As well as a large chunk of the pack’s reserve money fund. Not that we didn’t have the money to spare, it just all seemed a little over the top for my liking and unnecessary.
Mother was in charge of the planning and the overseeing of this massive party after all. A job she took very seriously. Rightly so, of course. As our Queen, she was responsible for making sure everything went off without a hitch. If she didn’t take charge, it would no doubt be a cluster f**k of a mess. If left to my siblings and I.
We had a reputation to withhold. We were the Knight family after all.
Royal family, and Alphas to all our neighboring packs. It was our line that started it all. We led our kind, my siblings and I.
“Will we see you after the ceremony, brother?” Daniel; one of my younger brothers asks, as he comes down the stairs wearing one of his signature three-piece Armoni suits.
I nod, and he waves goodbye; rushing out of the main hall in a hurry.
Daniel, was eager for tonight. Like myself, he had yet to be mated. He could meet the love of his life tonight, or so he believed.
I, however wouldn’t be attending the ceremony this year. I had better things to do with my time than to wait around for a female.
I had never been more grateful for an assignment before. To be pulled away from the chaos that tonight would surely bring. This was one time; I was more than willing to let my brothers have all the fun.
Besides, I had been to my fair share of these ceremony’s. Since I had turned of age and they all ended the same way for me. Either alone or under a mate less female, regretting the night.
I had yet to be mated, and after five years of mating ceremonies; hoping I would find her I decided I wouldn’t put myself through that again this year.
I had better things to do with my time.
Then wait for a woman who may or may not ever find me.
Because that’s how it worked. Some never end up finding their mate.
“Are you sure you don’t want to come?” Carter says, entering the room. “We can send someone else. Dad will understand.”
I nod. “I’m sure. Go on, enjoy your party. Keep those knuckle-heads in line.”
Carter gives me a gentle nod, before leaving the same way as Daniel.
These parties were not my scene anymore. I would much rather be tearing my teeth into something or someone. Protecting our pack, and holding my weight around here. Just because I was an Alpha, didn’t mean I didn’t need to do my part.
Which was exactly what was on the agenda for the night. Tonight, was about sending a message. Apparently rouge wolves, needed to be taught a lesson. In which I was more than willing to teach.
My inner wolf craved the taste of a good fight. More so than I did. It was becoming tiresome, waiting around for something exciting to happen all the time.
“You know your kind of boring, Cy. This party is going to be a blast. I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to come.” Killion bounces down the stairs, and enters the room all wide eyed, with a pep in his step. “Mom has spent a fortune on this party.”
I look up at my brother. Who was still so young and unchanged by the burdens of our family. Of our world really. I wouldn’t be the one to give him the hard truth. That things weren’t always so black and white. That there was more to life, than bedding a female and having everything handed to you.
“Yeah, yeah. Just try not to embarrass us. Okay kid?” I spat the words at him. Knowing he wasn’t a kid anymore, but I couldn’t help myself. I enjoyed getting under his skin, we all did.
Killion was the youngest one of us. Tonight was his first ceremony. He was your typical alpha male. Stubborn, completely in love with himself, and super cocky. A playboy. With a god complex, just like the other males his age.
He wasn’t all bad though. He had a heart of gold, and when he allowed himself to love he loved hard. Harder than anyone I had ever met.
Tonight, for him was more about hooking up with mate less females, than anything else. Always thinking with the other head. Never thinking about the bigger picture. It was hard to believe he was even old enough to go too this damn thing. Or mature enough.
After tonight his whole world could potentially change. Before he even had a chance to experience what his life could really be like. What a laugh that would be. Considering Daniel nor myself have found our mates and sadly this would be my fifth ceremony. If I was wasting my time going tonight, that is.
“Whatever, Cyrus. Go on, remember though. All work and no play makes for a boring man.” He says, giving me his signature boyish grin, strained at his cheeks as he follows behind Carter.
I knew Killion was excited for tonight. They all were.
Deep down I wasn’t so heartless that I really did hope for the best, for all my brothers. Including Carter who had already found his mate and settled down.
I just didn’t share their views on love, or s*x for that matter.
I wanted to believe there was more to this life than violence, pain and war.
I had a responsibility, to my family. My brothers, my mother, our pack but most of all my father. I wanted to settle down one day. Fulfill my duty to the pack. To him.
I would someday rule, alongside my brothers, or as King one day. But for now, I had to stay focused. I had a job to do. We weren’t about to let anyone slip. Rules were rules and when you broke them. Well, you had to be punished. Simple.
I grabbed my black duffle bag full of weapons, and the keys for the hummer. Heading out to the truck, I look around as the party planners fanatically finish putting out the decorations.
Mother really did out do herself again. The manor was breath taking. It even looked somewhat lived in, which was odd considering we all stayed away at our own houses.
In just a couple hours, the manor would be completely over run by wolves from all over the territory.
Which you would think would be a security issue, but my mother did not. Or knowing father, she wasn’t about to back down. She strived for perfection, and this party would be just that. Perfect.
Who knew, maybe tonight would be an interesting affair for my brothers. I hoped they would find a mate, sooner rather than later. Get them out of my hair a little sooner. Maybe tonight would be the start of a new beginning for them. I mean after all what the worst that could happen?
