The White Party

1259 Words
Fletcher rented a cottage at the Hamptons for us to stay in, he knew that I would like it. He said we could’ve stayed at their beach house but Kevin was staying at the house and brought a couple of his college friends. “Remind me again why I have to play nice?” I asked him as I was putting on my lipstick.  Fletch was briefing me on names and our story for the white party. “Because you promised to help me.’’ He kissed bare my shoulder, I was wearing the white backless Jacquemus dress while Fletch was wearing a white button up shirt with white blazer and white chinos making him look like a ridiculous ad for got milk but still making it look hot. “This party is ridiculous, making us wear all white. If they’re serving red wine I might kill someone.” I put on a pair of earings. Fletch put his arms around my waist looking at us in the mirror, his got a grin on his face that makes him look like a teenager. “You look hot.” He looked at me. “We both look hot. Come on, the sooner we got there the sooner we could leave.” To be honest I was nervous to be at the party, seeing my parents again after a year gives me an unsettling feeling in my stomach. I just hope that this works. “Don’t worry, everything is going to be fine.” He re-assured me while we were at the car. When we got to the Manor, Fletch was greeted by Nick himself. “Fletcher! It’s good to see you again, where’s your Dad?” he shook Fletch’s hand and proceeded with his small talks. “He’s baling out on today’s festivities but I’m pretty sure he’ll be here tomorrow.” He nodded at him smiling like a fake goon, then he turned his head and saw me. Then he froze. Nick Halden an opportunistic blood sucking bastard, he hated me back when I was Alexandria – he didn’t like the idea of me running Walt Corp., too bad for him. He probably got the news that I was not the permanent heiress of Walt Corp., maybe he got too greedy that my Father saw his true nature and asked him to resign. “This is my wife Kim Kosch. Babe this is Nick Halden.” He wiped of his shock face and shook my hand. “It’s nice to meet you Mr. Halden.” I put on a fake smile. “I’m sorry for looking a bit off, you just look like someone I know or rather knew.” He nervously laughed. “ I hope I could stay and chat but I’ve got a full house of guest to greet. Congrats on the nuptial Fletch – and Kim.” We waved goodbye to him, while I hid a chuckle. That was weird.  “That worked.” I gave him a knowing look. “What are you not telling me?” amused at his retort. “I’ll tell you later, for now let’s torment some people.” I laughed at him, liking his idea. Surprisingly, everyone was pretty surprised when they saw me. I can see them whispering to one another, it was only a matter of time before my parents hear the news. Speaking of the devil, I saw Lance running around with a bunch of kids at the sand, his blonde hair and freckled face reminded me of my Mother. He turned his head and saw me --  I smiled at him and walked away to where Fletcher was talking animatedly to one of the investors in his company. “Hey, where you’ve been?” his smiled and snaked is arm around my waist. “Just looking at the view of the ocean.” I kissed his cheek. “Nolan this is my wife, Kim.” He introduced me, I shook his hand. “It’s finally nice to meet you, I was surprised that Fletch never invited me to the wedding.” His eye crinkled as he smiles, showing off some of his wrinkles. “We wanted it to be intimate, but I’m still waiting for a bigger wedding.” I playfully poked Fletch’s chest . “Well, I’m just hoping I’m invited. Fletch is like a son to me, did you know he used to collect coins as a kid. Cracks me up everytime he tells me the history of coins.” He patted Fletch on the back, making Fletch cringe. Amused at his discomfort I asked more about his childhood and Nolan went on and on about every details of his childhood. “You should come by at the house I have a full album of this kid that he doesn’t know.” Fletch looked at him with an open mouth. “Oops.” Nolan said then walked away in a hurry. “you better not show her that album.” He yelled to Nolan, Nolan shrugged him off and waved good bye to us. “He’s just messing with me.” Nolan sipped on his wine looking anywhere but me, I just laughed. When suddenly someone hugged my legs, I looked down and saw Lance. His blue eyes were brimming with tears and I just couldn’t help but crouch down to him. When Lance was born, I knew that I’ll be left alone, my parents love him so deeply that they put too much pressure on me to be perfect, to not taint the families name for Lance. I wanted to hate their son for making me suffer even more, but I couldn’t – when I saw Lance I understood that he doesn’t have to suffer the way I did, that it was better that they treated him well and loved him irrevocably. I wanted him to grow up oblivious of our parents scheming ways. Lance and I never had the chance to become closer, my Mother made sure of that. But regardless of that it didn’t ruined our bond, Lance would sneak in to my room every night when he was 5 because he was afraid of the monsters under his bed. Our parents didn’t let him sleep in their bed, telling him that he needs to toughen up, but a 5 year old couldn’t fight a monster under his bed. I crouched down at him, wiping off his tears. “What’s wrong little guy?” I asked him concerned if he was hurt. “Mommy said you were dead.” Then he hugged me, well tried to his arms could only go so far. He cried on my shoulder when I look up people were looking at us. I picked him up in my arms and patted his back soothingly, Fletcher looked at me with a warning look, I ignored him. “Hey look I’m not dead, silly.” I looked at him, he just cried even harder. “Lance?” I heard a panicked voice in my back, I knew that voice like the back of my hand. I didn’t turned around.
