Chapter 15: Tired Of Being Weak

1029 Words
Chloe's POV He wanted me to train? Did he really think I was that weak? I couldn't help but wonder and feel so low about myself. To make matters worse, two maids stood at a corner of the room, gossiping about me. They made it so obvious and their voices were audible. "How could a Luna train? Princess Evelyn never trained, but it's obvious that she's the best person for Alpha Zayne." "I heard around the Pack that this thing is called Chloe. I can't believe she's Alpha Zayne's mate. I've always rooted for princess Evelyn." "Yeah. I can't even imagine receiving orders from her." A tear escaped from my left eye as I listened to their words, and I brushed it off but the tears kept forming. With heavy eyes, I stared at Zayne, hoping he'd do something about what the maids said- hoping he'd deal with them or defend me in their presence, but… he didn't. "Aw… what a pathetic sight." I turned my head to the familiar voice, and it was Evelyn. "What are you doing here, you b*tch?!" Phoebe spat. She was really furious at Evelyn's presence. "Oh Phoebe… always so charming. How long has it been? A year?" Evelyn smirked ar her. "Get out of this room!" Phoebe yelled. She turned to Zayne. "Send her out!" Zayne paid no attention to her. Instead, he turned to Evelyn and asked her coldly, "why are you here again?" "Come on darling, you can't get rid of me so easily. Besides, you know we are already betrothed. Stop making this situation harder than it already is." Betrothed? That hurt, real bad. It felt like a hammer was used to pound my chest. I didn't want to believe Evelyn when she said that Zayne was her Fiance, but Zayne didn't even bother to deny her words. My chest tightened, and I was starting to find it difficult to breathe. Without thinking, I dashed out of the room in a haste, to nowhere in particular. I just had to get out of there. "Chloe, wait!" I could hear Phoebe calling out to me- but I didn't stop. I kept running, till I bumped into someone and fell hard on my butt. "Ow!" I cried, rubbing my spine to dull the intense ache. "Are you alright?" "Ryder?" "Let me help you up." "Thanks." I said, smoothing my black dress. "What's chasing you?" Ryder asked. "You look sad. Is everything okay?" "Nothing. I… I just want to leave." I said, sniffling. "Leave? But why? You're upset. Did someone hurt you? Do I need to inform Alpha Zayne?" "Please… I… just let me go." I said, almost raising my voice. "Does Alpha Zayne know about you leaving?" "That's none of your business!" I barked, and he flinched slightly. "I don't want to stay here anymore, and I don't care about Alpha Zayne." "You don't mean that. You and I both know that that's a lie. I know you care so much about him." "Listen here, Ryder! Just because you think you 'saved me' doesn't mean you know me. You don't know a f*cking thing about me!" I yelled, surprised at my cussing. "I'm sorry, I'm just concerned." "Well, I don't need your concern. I'm not some kind of charity case." "Fine. But… where are you going to go?" "Back to my pack of course." I couldn't even believe I uttered those words out. "Chloe! Wait up!!" I turned to see Phoebe panting heavily. "For someone that hasn't trained at all, you're a good runner. You almost got me out of breath." She said, still panting. "I hope you get better. I have to go now." Ryder said, and hurried off. That was odd. He looked uncomfortable in Phoebe's presence. I wondered if they had some sort of history together in the past. "Chloe…" Phoebe called out, snapping me back to reality. "There's no need to train me. I'm already leaving. It's clear that no one wants me here, so I'd just leave or better still- become a lonely wolf." "Ugh… is this because of Evelyn and Zayne?" Phoebe asked, smacking her palm on her forehead. "Yes." I muttered. "Really?" She rolled her eyes. "That b*tch is obsessed with Zayne. You shouldn't be bothered about her. Besides, I'm sure Zayne loves you very much. He has searched for his mate for years, and now that he finally found you, he's not going to do anything stupid- trust me." "But… he didn't even bother to defend me." "You should learn to defend yourself, Chloe. Listen…" she paused, placing her hands gently on my shoulder. "Zayne loves and cares for you. He wants me to train you because he wants a strong Luna by his side. Don't be too hard on him please." "I don't get it. He's my mate. He's supposed to defend me and stand by me, but he didn't. He allowed those maids to insult me, and he said nothing. Even when Evelyn disrespected me, he did nothing." "He heard what those filthy maids said- we all heard it, but Zayne didn't do anything because he was giving you an opportunity to defend yourself." As much as it hurt me, she was right. I could've defended myself. Maybe Zayne got tired of me already. I'm too weak for his status. "I'm just tired of being weak." "And that's why I'm here." Phoebe said softly. "You're the mate of the Supreme Alpha. Do you know how many b*tches are out there dying to be in your shoes? I won’t hide this, Chloe, you will have enemies so, you cannot afford to be weak." "Enemies?" My heart threatened to burst out through my ribcage as I heard that. "Yes. It's a good thing I'm here. I only planned to snoop around the Pack and find out who my brother's mate is. I'm glad she's you." A smile formed on my lips. "Thank you." "No need to thank me. I hope I've been able to convince you to stay. I'll be sad if you leave." "Fine. I'll stay." "Great! Do you still want to train with me?" I shrugged. "Sure. Let's start the training now."
