Chapter 12: You've Been Driving Me Insane

1065 Words
Chloe's POV I tried so hard to pull back, but the more I tried, the more I sank deeper and deeper into the kiss. I didn't want this moment to end. "I'm sorry." He quickly apologized, withdrawing from the kiss. I stared at him, breathless, my heart pounding as if it would leap from my chest. My lips tingled from the kiss, and I could still feel the warmth of his mouth on mine. "Sorry for what?" I asked confusedly. Did he regret it already? "For kissing you. I promised not to rush you or do anything that'd make you feel uncomfortable." "No, you don't need to apologize, Zayne." I said, planting a kiss on his left cheek, and a smile formed on his face. "You're sure I didn't make you feel uncomfortable in any way?" "No, you didn't." “Have I been able to change your mind?” Zayne asked, his voice low, husky, and undeniably seductive. “I-I don’t know…” I whispered, not trusting my own voice. “You kissed me out of nowhere.” “That doesn't answer the question, and I know you liked it,” he said with a smirk, leaning in again. “Don’t deny it.” I bit my lip, heat rising to my cheeks. “Maybe I did. Maybe I didn’t.” “Oh, little wolf,” he murmured, his hand tracing my jawline slowly, deliberately, “you’re not a very good liar.” I gasped as he suddenly flipped me over, hovering above me, his eyes glowing faintly with that Alpha dominance that made me shudder. “You’ve been driving me insane, Chloe,” he growled softly, pressing his forehead to mine. “You say you want to leave, but your body—” his hand slid down my waist “—it tells a different story.” “Zayne,” I breathed, “this isn’t fair…” “What’s not fair?” he asked, brushing his lips along my collarbone. “That I want you? That I can’t stop thinking about the way you look at me, even when you're angry? That I lose my mind every time another male even looks at you?” "You just… We don't even know each other so well. You just met me." "Does that even matter? You are my mate. We are deeply connected to each other regardless of whether we've known each other for a while or not." "You're right." I said, turning my face away to keep myself from blushing hard. "But I didn't know I made you feel like that." "Look at me, darling." He said, placing his palm on my chin, and I looked up to meet his eyes. "I'm crazy about you, Chloe. I wouldn't have wished for a better mate." "But I'm not really fit to be your Luna." "Don't say that. I'm going to teach you everything you need to know. We could start slowly." I turned away from him. "How do you intend to do that? Your pack members don't like me." "This is your pack too. As long as you are my mate, you belong here with me." "But I'm not even welcome here. They all hate me." "Come on, Chloe." Zayne said softly. "You need to trust me. I've made a promise to you that I intend to keep. I'm going to be with you every step of the way." "You already broke that promise when you left me all by myself." Zayne heaved a sigh. "Tell me what I need to do to make things right." His eyes studied me intently and landed on my lips again. He kissed it softly but quickly. I stared at him blankly. "Maybe we need some time apart to get to know each other." I didn't know why I said that, but I regretted it deeply. He dug his fingers in his hair, frustrated. "How is that even going to be possible? Time apart makes things worse. For the Goddess' sake, Chloe! We're mates!" "I know, but—" "I'm trying, Chloe." He said, cutting me off with his pleading tone. "I'm trying to resist you—to take things slow—but I can't. I'm failing miserably." I clenched the sheets beneath me as he dragged his lips slowly up my neck, his tongue flicking teasingly at my earlobe. “Tell me to stop, and I will,” he whispered, his voice so close, so intimate, it sent a shiver down my spine. I said nothing. Breathing heavily instead. “I thought so,” he smirked, before crashing his lips to mine again, deeper this time—more demanding. Our breaths tangled as his hands explored, memorizing every inch of me. My fingers curled around his shirt, desperate to pull him closer. My head scolded me, telling me to stop this, but my heart said otherwise. “Say it, Chloe,” he whispered against my lips. “Say you’re mine.” “Zayne…” I moaned softly, arching into him. "Say it, baby." "I…" "Yes, baby." He whispered, placing a deep kiss on my neck. "Mmm… Zayne…" I murmured, slowly losing control of my senses. “I love the way you say my name,” he groaned, trailing kisses down my stomach. “Say it again.” “Zayne…” “I want to mark you,” he said suddenly, pulling back just enough to meet my gaze. His eyes were wild. Serious. “But only if you let me.” I hesitated, heart thundering. “I…” Before I could answer, the bedroom door flew open with a loud bang. Both of us jolted, sheets barely pulled over us. “What the hell—” Zayne snarled, rising instinctively to shield me. “Alpha!” a frantic but familiar voice yelled. "How dare you disrupt me, Ryder?!" Zayne barked angrily. "I'm sorry, Alpha. This is important." "Speak!!!" He barked angrily again. "Rogues. They've crossed the Pack borders. We spotted at least a dozen. We need you now.” Zayne’s eyes darkened immediately. Every trace of softness vanished. He turned to face me. “Stay here,” he growled, already yanking on his clothes. "Are you going to be alright?" I asked, concerned. "Just stay here and don't come out." He warned, before making his way out of the room, not giving me a chance to utter another word.
