Chloe's POV
'What are you doing, Chloe?' Nyx asked as I adjusted my dress in front of the large mirror.
"How do you keep talking to me when I shut you out?"
'Come on… You know you're stuck with me.'
"Whatever." I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "Anyway, what does it look like? I'm going to fight alongside Zayne. This is the only way of proving my worthiness as the Luna."
'I don't think you should do this. Think this through. You could get hurt.'
"There's nothing to think about. Besides, why are you so against this? You're supposed to be on my side all the time." I said, tying my hair up into a bun while still staring at my reflection.
'Chloe, come on, I still have the right to correct you when you're in the wrong. I'm not in support of this, Chloe. At least, think about Zayne. Do you think he'd be happy with you joining in the battle?'
"This is my only way of proving my worthiness as the Luna."
'Why are you so hell-bent on proving your worthiness? You don't need to prove anything.'
"Nyx, did you see their faces? The faces of the members of this pack. They literally judged me negatively with their eyes."
'Is it because of them you're doing this? It makes no sense!'
"Why do I have the feeling you're doing this intentionally? You're stalling me in an attempt to stop me from going."
'Is it working?' Nyx asked.
"You sound like a protective best friend."
'Aren't we besties?'
"That's enough, Nyx. Stop trying to stall me. You're just wasting your time."
'This isn't going to end well. Please listen to Zayne and stay back.'
"No. I can still remember when he introduced me to everyone. The moment Zayne left, they revealed their true selves." I heaved a sigh before continuing. "I have to prove that I'm worthy to be here."
'You haven't even done the Luna ceremony yet.'
"That's besides the point. Zayne still regards me as his Luna."
I could hear Nyx whimper frustratingly. 'Zayne won't be happy with this.'
"He doesn't need to know."
'There's no way he won't find out. How do you plan on keeping this away from him'?
"Well, I'll stay out of sight."
'Are you for real? They're rogues, Chloe. You'll literally be walking into a battlefield.'
"I don't care. In fact, the fact that they're rogues makes me want to do this even more. Have you suddenly forgotten how rogues attacked and killed my family?"
'I-'
"I have to do this, Nyx. I remember standing there, watching when they tore my father and mother into pieces in my presence. They didn’t even spare my twin brothers. I stood there like a fool, unable to do anything." I said, my voice breaking.
'Chloe… I didn't mean to make you upset.'
"Everyone said I was cursed… I killed my parents. I killed my family."
'You didn't—'
"Oh yes, I did! If I had done something, maybe they'd still be alive today."
'Stop blaming yourself, Chloe. What would you have done? You were still a young pup then. If anything, you could've been killed too.'
"Anyway," I sniffled. "It doesn't matter." I said, brushing a tear hurriedly off my face. "I don't even know why I'm ranting to you."
'I'm your wolf, Chloe. You have every right to rant to me. In fact, that's part of the reason the Moon Goddess linked us both.'
"Whatever."
'I know what you're thinking. Please, don't shut me out now.'
"I'm not going to be a fool again. I have made up my mind, and I'm going to this fight."
'Fine. There's no need to go back and forth with this since your mind is already made up. I'm still not in support of this, but what choice do I have?'
"Good to know you're aware you don't have a choice."
'But Chloe—'
"That's enough. I'm shutting you out for the rest of the day, and this time, I'll make sure you are unable to interrupt."
'No way—' Nyx tried to say, but I already shut her out.
I smiled as I stared at my reflection in the mirror one last time. I smoothed down my dress before making my way out of the room.
I heaved a sigh of relief as I reached the hallway. There was no one in sight. 'They're probably all on the battlefield,' I thought.
Suddenly, it dawned on me. I didn't even know where the battlefield was.
I decided to follow the noises and screams of people as they fought, and soon, I was on the battlefield.
My heart fluttered slightly as I sighted Zayne, slaying every Rogue in his path. He didn't even look like he was in a battle. As I stared at him, I didn't even notice a single scar or bruise on his skin.
"This is how I'm going to be too. Zayne is the Supreme Alpha, and he's my mate. He's strong. As his mate, that means I'm the Supreme Luna, so I have nothing to fear. I'm sure I can do this." I muttered.
I was about to take a step into the main battlefield when a dead rogue was tossed in my direction, making me flinch.
He was clearly murdered by one of the Pack members.
I quickly composed myself, remembering why I was here. I took a few deep breaths. "I'm doing this to prove my worthiness." I reminded myself.
I took a step into the battlefield, but I didn't even have the time to prepare when a rogue snarled and attacked me. He picked me up as I stood and flung me to a corner, raining heavy blows on my face.
He continued to hit me mercilessly, and I was powerless before him.
In an instant, he ran off like he was being chased by something.
I lay there on the floor, trying to steady my breathing and keep my eyes open.
"Chloe!!" I heard Zayne call out my name.
He rushed to my side and scooped me in his arms. "Can you hear me?"
I couldn’t speak. I just balanced on his arms, extremely weak.
"Get the Pack doctor and healer immediately!" Zayne ordered.
Those were the last words I heard before everything went dark.
