Knowing Carter he probably stopped midway to chase a deer for fun and Theodore most likely was finishing up a tennis tournament. It's weird to picture a vampire playing tennis but Theo was laid back like that. He blended in with the humans better than anyone. He also love the faces of his opponents every time he would play because they couldn't stand a chance, he could even win without even glancing at his oppon
