CHAPTER 7

ASHTER STARR

"No---" He declined but Jane already dragged his seat on our bench. I can see Aliana and Sophie shifted uncomfortably in their seats. Sophie had a cold stare at Damien while Aliana’s eyes were fixated on her breakfast not even glancing at Damien. Jane obviously felt that there was tension going around but decides to ignore it.

“I insist” I heard Jane said to him, I immediately felt the cold shiver down my spine. Then I just realized that Damien had been placed between me and Jane. I gripped the tables, my knuckles turning white.

“Uhh… Hey, Damien” Aliana greeted nicely trying not to create tension between them but it was already awkward as It is.

“Hello” He mumbled with his head down. I watch him as he raised his right hand to give them a small wave.

“So, Damien would you like to join us after school later to go to the library to study? When you disappear I had no one else so I asked her to come with me, she is like your replacement” Jane told him as she pointed her fingers at me.

“So I was just your option this whole time? Wow, how rude” I hold my chest pretending to be hurt by what she just said, making her giggle. Suddenly the atmosphere felt light.

“Yeah you are just my number 2” She joked, then in just a few seconds the awkward silences filled the air. Damn, why does It feel so heavy?

“What’s up with you guys? What the heck is going on?” Jane tried laughing off the awkwardness, as she motion Damien to follow her. “What are you waiting for come one let’s go”

Damien stood up and went beside her like he is a lost dog. I watch them as they whispered at each other feeling kinda jealous that Jane was the only one allowed near Damien and she could talk to him.

“Girl what are you staring at? Come on let’s go” Jade motion for me to follow them I was confused because we don’t have class together in the morning.

“What do you mean? We don’t have the same class in the morning remember “I told her furrowing my eyebrows in confusion

“There are 15 minutes left before the bell rings, so I figured that we could go to the library to study somehow” She invited me.

“Oh, you mean now?” I nodded in realization. ”I think I’ll pass”

“Damn why do people have such crazy mood swings today” Jane groaned, I was startled when she grabbed my arm and dragged her.

“What the heck Jane! Seriously I’m okay, it’s alright” She paused in her tracks, we are a bit close to the library “I’ll just hang out with Aliana and Sophie while you catch up with your friend there” I glanced at Damien and I saw him busy watching the empty halls not even caring what they’re talking about

“You both have a lot of catching up to do, so I leave you guys to it” As I was about to walk away Jane gripped the collar of my shirt.

“Nope I don’t think so you’re stuck with me girl” Jane drags me along with them again. I sighed. We went to our usual show spot and sat. Damien sat next to Jane of course and I sat the cross from them avoiding eye contact as picked up my book to review because we’re going to have a quiz later.

I don’t know why but it’s awkward to be around him maybe it’s because of that dream where he admitted to me that he is a vampire but I don’t think so because it’s just a dream.

Or is it not a dream?...

I felt that someone is watching me so I looked up to see that Damien staring at me but as soon as I look up he then turn the other way avoiding my gaze.

Damien leaned in to tell Jane something in her ear and she nodded. He rose up from his seat and then he disappeared from the bookshelves, I look in his direction confused then look back, Jane.

“Oh don’t mind him he was just gathering around the books that he need because obviously he needs a lot of catching up to do” Jane informed me and I nodded in understanding as I continue to read the book that was on my lap.

After a few minutes, a man came back to the last book since she didn’t place them on the table after placing them on the table he picked one book and started reading.

Silence fell over us as we continue to read and study our important subjects. And me of course my mind is in a different place right now so I can’t focus and I get easily distracted.

I watch Jane as she was focus on reading her biology book, I smiled at the sight because Jane really is a hard working person, I know she wants it the smartest but she’s doing her best to ace her subjects.

Then my eyes fell on the tallboy. the way Damien was biting his lip and frowning his eyes while reading honestly be one of the cutest and the hottest things I've seen. He looks so peaceful. He can be perfect without even trying and he was just reading. Now I wonder why back then people are always crowding him. Now I couldn't just picture him with vicious red eyes because he looks so innocent.

Damn Ashter pull yourself together.

I shook my head before I focused on my book. I don't want to look at him for too long because I don't want him to think that I am a creep.

After a few minutes, the bell started to ring like crazy, telling us that we should go to our first class. I sighed as picked my stuff and flung my backpack into my shoulder; I heard a sea of a student at this point.

“So I will see you guys later! Thank you for joining me” Jane waved us goodbye and go in a different direction. Damien and I have the same class so she left us alone. I was about to ask him that we could walk together in class but I sighed when I saw him dashing to the exit.

I still thought of what I’m gonna do regarding Damien. Well, I just can’t walk up to him and be like ‘hi are you a vampire?’ That’s just stupid. I mentally groaned as my thoughts of the tallboy began once again. Maybe later when I got home I will try to have a research search about him, I mean about vampires, I tried to stop thinking about him and focus on the quiz that we are about to do today.

The whole day was a drag. I spent my time avoiding Damien because I don't really want him to see me right now.

We don't have training today because there is some event at school and we can't use the court.

I am glad though because I can go home early and rest.

When I arrived home, I directly go to my room, I untie my shoes first before I collapsed in my bed. I checked my phone to see what time is it, it's already 2:18 in the afternoon.

I stare at the ceiling for like 10mins and I feel my eyelids are getting heavy, so I close them and let sleep take over.

I was awake by the loud knock on the door

"Sweetie are you there?" Mom asked softly

When I didn't respond, she opens the door and walked towards my bed, then she shake me.

"Ashter wake up!" Thalia continue shaking me

"Why mom?" I groan irritatingly

"It's 6:30 and you're still sleeping! just because you got dismissed early today at school that doesn't mean you can sleep all day." My mom scolds "Now wake up Ashter! Your father is here and dinner is ready, you should be downstairs in 5 minutes" she added before walking out of my room.

I'm still in my bed half asleep, I didn't believe to mom that it's 6:30pm already, so I took my phone from the nightstand and open it then I realize mother is right it's already six.

I stood up from my bed quickly I'm wide awake now.

"Oh my god I slept for 6 hours" I placed a hand on my forehead in realization

I ran to my shower room to brush my teeth because I hate it when you wake up you'll always have bad breath. After I finished brushing I ran downstairs and went to the dining room to see my mother preparing dinner and I also saw my dad preparing some plates.

"There you are! I thought you came back to sleep" My mom smirked.

"Nope, I am wide awake" I shook my head

"Hey there, my princess" Dad hugged me in greeting.

"Hey dad" I hugged him back, he pulled away, then he kisses my forehead.

"So how was your work did you enjoy? are your co-workers treating you good?" I said while walking on the table.

"Yes they are alright, but there is one weird guy in there" Oliver informed us

"Who?" I asked interestedly as I sat on the chair watching them prepare the foods.

"I don't really know his name but he doesn't like people around him and touching him and he always has the mask on his face, I asked my other friends and they said he is always been like that and they also said he has a sick" My dad shared to us. Why do I feel like I know that guy. Or maybe I know someone like him.

Then I remembered

After dinner, I will research for a bit.

Dinner was great as usual,

Mom always cooks delicious foods. After we eat dinner I helped mom washed the dishes while father and I cleaned the table. When I finished all the chores I went upstairs, I directly go to my shower room to wash. After I washed I put my pajamas on and crawled back into my bed and reached for my laptop. I turned it on and search google.

I typed in my Google search bar how to know when someone is a vampire.

Of course, a lot of crazy ads popped up but only one catches my eyes so I clicked on it and it made me feel stupid, to be honest.

I scroll further and saw signs of a vampire. Do you think you know someone who could be a bloodsucker? I rolled my eyes because I feel stupid but I clicked on it anyways.

Think you know someone who could be a vampire but not sure for starters no they don't sparkle like diamonds, but there are signs be careful and don't get them confused. Vampires have a propensity to be reserved and silent; they rarely speak, open up, or disclose anything about themselves, as if they don't actually exist; no one knows where they come from; they've never seen any family members, parents, or anyone in particular.

I felt my whole body shuddered, as I remember from what Aliana told me Damien's parents never show up at any important meetings. I continued reading.

In appearances in such, they are cold, well not emotionally. I mean their bodies are built like a brick of ice because they are very cold and their skin is very pale. They have what we term "perfect" looks. Every aspect of them is distinct and appears to have been created by a perfectionist. Obviously, many others will be drawn to them, causing crowds to gather just to catch a sight of their beauty.

More facts if you still need to confirm it, they have a really short temper and are prone to starting fights... Vampires are also quicker and stronger than humans, and they can move in a hazy, mist-like state. They also have the ability to adapt to sunlight and the power to render themselves invisible provided they are powerful enough. These powers and abilities grow stronger with time, age, and the consumption of human blood.

also, there is a story that vampires can control dreams and the subconscious via their limited form of telepathy. A vampire's ability to produce and modify dreams bestow nightmares or lucid dreaming is tied to whether their target's minds are weaker than theirs.

Vampires also have different skills, they have Telepathy, Atmokinesis, Telekinesis, Pyrokinesis and lastly Shapeshifting which is the rarest skills a vampire could hav----

I slammed my laptop shut, I stop reading. My heart is pounding like crazy as I tried to put the pieces together and suddenly it all makes sense. Everything in the article basically elaborated about Damien.

I can't believe this is happening to me I never really thought they are real, as far as I know, they were just fictional characters but now I'm really confused I don't know what to believe. But everything makes sense right now. I mean Vampires? are real?.... well I don't know...

Could this be really the answer?... Well, I don't know I will find out tomorrow when I confront Damien.
