They Are Not Ordinary

CHAPTER 42

ASHTER STARR.

A week had passed like a whirlwind, though I felt s**t from the past few weeks, it's hard carrying a heavy and broken heart around, but I honestly feel a bit great today.

Little by little I was getting used to moving forward to my life without thinking about Damien. The endless night of crying, lack of sleep, and heartache slowly subsided every day.

It was pretty lonely without him but I can manage because I have a lot more friends now than before.

Although there is a time that I will miss him. I missed his voice especially missing my own name coming out of his mouth. I never loved my name more than when Damien says it and I hadn't heard it for a while. I miss him every day. He has this special place in my heart that I couldn't just let go of.

But I have to forget about him because this is not healthy for me.

I internally slapped myself again for thinking such things again.

"It's only been a week, don't be hard on yourself Ashter" I muttered to myself as I continued to go on my boring day at school again.

"Okay class," My math professor begins, "So we are going to have to squeeze a little bit this morning because we have an English class coming in. Their professor had to run out unexpectedly so I offered to watch over his class"

I look towards the door, then a bunch of other students pilling into our room. There wasn't anyone that I really know. That is until I spotted my crazy friend.

"Jessica!" I shouted making everyone look at me weirdly.

"Quiet down Ms. Starr" My teacher warned me, I immediately lower my head down in embarrassment. Damn that came out louder than I thought.

"Ash!" Jessica's eyes sparkle as she saw me. she immediately sat down next to me since my seatmate was absent today, lucky me. This will be the first time I will have her in class.

"I didn't know that you are going to be here, I'm really surprised" Jessica whispered loud enough so I can hear "But I am really happy that I can finally seat with you in class, even though it's math"

"I know right" I smiled at her as I watch her place her things down and situated herself in the seat before looking at me.

"So, it must be painful to have math class in the morning" Jessica lowered her voice a bit because she don't want us to get scolded.

"Yeah, you don't know?" I asked and Jessica shooked her head "Right, we never really talk about school that much lol"

"Yeah, we are always talking about volleyball or boys gosh but who would want to talk about school right? it's way too boring" Jessica nudged me making me laugh.

"Ms. Starr and the blonde girl beside you please keep your voices down" The teacher scolded us. Jessica and I just laughed quietly and focused on the teacher before we get kicked out.

The professor then makes an announcement that due to today's circumstances, we can't exactly follow through with our original lesson plan for the day. so he simply puts up an assignment on the projector screen and that's what we have to work on for the rest of the time. The English class that joined in the room also has to work on the assignment that was given to them prior to their arrival.

I was the type to always get my work done as quickly as I could and to the best of my ability. So Jessica was shocked when I finished in just 10 minutes.

"Damn, I wish I was smart like Ashter" Jessica groaned quietly before going back to do her work again. She also finished her work after 10 minutes, she told me that was a whole new record for her because she usually finished her work when the bell ring.

She told me she rushed because she wanted to talk to me and gossip about the new rumors again.

We ended up talking the whole free time, it was honestly pretty nice to have someone in my math class, it just sucks that we are only going to be together in the same class for one day.

When the bell rang we both sadly look at each other.

"Well, that sucks," Jessica said as she cleaned her things up and shoved them into her backpack "Well it was nice having you in the same class Ash. I wish we have classes together though"

"Yeah, I know right, but don't be sad we are still going to see each other every day at training" I giggled as we walked outside the room.

"So I will see you later b***h!' Jessica waved me goodbye before walking in the opposite direction.

I waved back at her before moving to my next subject.

Smiling was a good start in the morning. I really feel great today.

"You're in an awfully good mood today Ash it's so nice to see you like this" Jane smiled at me as she pops a piece of gum in her mouth as we walk out of the library after a couple of hours just studying and hanging out.

The changes of schedule for the 2nd semester had given us more free time because we only have 5 hours of classes in total which made Jane and I got back to our old routine where we study after class.

"I know" I laughed "I just woke up feeling great this morning for some reason. I'm not really sure why. I haven't been able to say that for a while, it feels great to be great"

Jane throws an arm around my shoulders and pulls me in for a tight side hug. I relaxed in her embrace, just now realizing that I haven't received a proper hug in the past couple of weeks.

"Hey, we love you, Ash, you know that right?"

I nodded before I pulled away carefully.

"I love you too guys, thank you for always being there" I smiled "and I'm sorry I've been si out of it and distant lately. I was just going through some tough s**t"

Jane places a hand on top of my head and ruffles it playfully.

"No, don't apologize. You are only human you are allowed to feel like that sometimes. We're all concerned about you, but just know that you'll be okay and of course, we are here if you feel like you aren't"

I bit my bottom lip put and gave her one last hug before I go to the theater room to practice.

If it wasn't for Damien, I would probably never would have met Jane and I have grown to love and care for her so much. It's amazing how close two people can get in such a couple of months.

I'm glad my father got a job in this place. Well, the one thing I hope is that he is going to stay here because it will be hard for me to leave this place.

After all these years I finally found a place that makes my heart happy, not just because of Damien. It's also because of my special friends. I just hope that wouldn't be taken away from me.

It just holds a lot of memories, people, and a special place in my heart, I can't just leave one day. I want to stay here forever.

Although forever is something I wouldn't use in a sentence because it's to cliché but I will use it for now.

As Jane and I walked down the hallway we are met by a sad Aliana.

"Guys I am dying of boredom. Sophie and her boyfriend luke are spending the whole f*****g day together like the adorable couple they are. Now I am always walking alone and she didn't even seat at us in lunch because they are sitting together" Aliana groaned dramatically, Jane and I just laughed at her dreadful expression.

"Wait you both have different classes right and not to mention you are a senior so why are you both always together" Jane just realized this now.

"Yeah we are but Sophie always walks with me and we are together anytime and anywhere" Aliana added as we continued to walk downstairs.

"Well, maybe you should start having a boyfriend Ms. President there is a whole line waiting for you. so you won't have to walk alone again because you have someone" Jane suggested with a wink.

"I don't have time for that relationships stuff, I don't want to add more stress in my head you know" Aliana went on "Also I told you to stop calling me Ms. president it's too formal"

"Well, then you just have to walk alone forever Ms. President" Jane teased. She really loves to stress people out.

"When are going to stop annoying people?" I asked with a small laugh. We are finally on the ground floor.

"I won't" Jane winked. "Alright, I will leave now guys, good luck with your practice Ash!"

"See you tomorrow Jane" Aliana and I both waved and shouted Jane goodbye.

"Well me too I will go now, Ash good luck in your practice, we are looking forward to your performance tomorrow" Aliana waved me goodbye before walking to the exit.

Geez, a month already passed and tomorrow was going to be a big day. I really tried not to think about it because thinking about it makes me nervous and forget about my lines.

I sighed as I made my way to the theater room.

When I stepped inside the room, I heard Leo's voice it's like he was talking to someone. I couldn't help but to eavesdrop.

"How are you certain that they are coming back?" Leonardo said "and are you sure that they didn't notice that it was a trap?

"Okay, if they didn't come back make sure you check their base again"

"Yeah sure, "Leo said before he hung up. Trap? Base? What does he mean? I was curious about who was he talking to and why does he sound so serious and mad.

"Hey, Leo" I made my presence known, Leo jumped in surprise, dropping his phone and everything. He seems to be so nervous.

"H-hey Ashter," He said, his voice was now a bit softer than earlier. "How long have you been standing there?"

"I just got here," I told him with a smile. it's obviously a lie because I was here the whole time.

"Oh okay good," He said while scratching the back of his neck. It was the thing he does when he is nervous.

I wonder why he was so nervous.

"So yeah let's start our practice so you can rest early," He said putting up his usual bright smile. The nervous expression on his face was long gone.

Maybe it was just his father scolding him. I am thinking too much. I wanted to ask him but that would be rude because I just invaded his privacy.

I just shrugged and focus on practicing.
