The sky above grew darker with every passing minute. Eleanor closed her eyes, enjoying the breeze as it grazed her skin. She sat next to Esme, Alice, and Rose, who were discussing the upcoming game. Jasper, Emmett, and Carlisle were busying themselves by setting up their baseball field.
Eleanor loved baseball. She hadn't properly watched a game in years, but she remembered sitting beside her father on the couch and cheering for their favourite teams. Sometimes she forgot how much she missed him.
The sound of Edward's car replaced the silence in the field. The girls quickly stood up, and Eleanor moved to stand behind Alice. She watched Bella hop out of the car, and took a deep breath.
The couple walked over to the group of vampires - and Eleanor - talking amongst themselves quietly. Bella looked up, and her eyes landed on Eleanor, "El? What're you doing here?"
The girl stepped out from behind Alice and smiled, shyly, "Alice invited me."
Bella slowly nodded, and looked up to Edward. The vampire just smiled, awkwardly, before turning his attention back to his family.
Thunder suddenly rolled across the sky, and Eleanor looked up. A smirk overtook Alice's face, "it's time!"
Eleanor walked beside Esme, and she put one of her arms around her shoulder. They moved up to walk next to Bella, and Esme wrapped her other arm around her, "I'm glad you guys are here. We needed umpires."
"She thinks we cheat," Emmett laughed, as he walked past the three.
"I can see you cheating, Em," Eleanor said, and giggled.
The vampire playfully glared at her, before slowly running over to his position on the field. "Call them as you see them."
Bella and Esme crouched down by the home plate, while Eleanor walked over to her mate. He smiled down at her, and subtly slipped his arm around her waist. She kept her eye on Bella, ready to move if she looked back.
Rosalie stepped up to the plate, and got in position to bat. Alice narrowed her eyes and hiked her leg up, before throwing the ball. Eleanor watched with wide eyes as Rosalie's bat met the ball, causing it to fly into the woods, "now I see why you need the thunder."
"That's gotta be a home run!" Bella said.
Esme shook her head, "Edward's very fast."
Eleanor was sure Rosalie was going to get a home run - she couldn't see Edward. But suddenly she saw a ball fly in from the forest, and land into Esme's hands right before Rose's foot touched the base, "you're out."
Rosalie shot Bella an ugly glare, "come on, babe, it's just a game!"
She rolled her eyes, and walked over to Eleanor, who gave her a small smile, "nice hit."
Carlisle was up next. He winked back at Eleanor, who blushed, before he got into position. Eleanor slowly ran her eyes over his body, before she got nudged by Rosalie. The girl was smirking at her with raised eyebrows.
Eleanor just rolled her eyes, "shut up."
Carlisle's bat hit the ball, and he took off towards first base. El watched as Edward and Emmett both jumped for the ball. She cheered when they crashed into each other, and Carlisle made it back to home plate.
As Carlisle high-fived his mate, he grabbed her hand and pulled her into him. Eleanor started to laugh, not caring about Bella's curious eyes on the two.
Jasper moved up to bat next. Alice pitched her ball, and the bat met it with a crack. The ball disappeared into the forest, "stop!"
Eleanor's head snapped towards Alice. Her eyes were wide, and her mouth hung open slightly, "they were leaving when they heard us."
Carlisle tensed up beside Eleanor, and he grabbed her hand, leading her over to Edward, "take her with you. Get them out of here."
Edward nodded, and grabbed both of the girls' hands, "let's go."
"It's too late!" Alice shouted.
Carlisle looked back at Eleanor, before removing his hat and jersey, leaving him in a white t-shirt. He gave the items to the girl, "put them on, quickly. I'm so sorry."
"What? Why?" She asked as she slipped the jersey on, and placed the cap onto her head. Alice and Rosalie moved in front of the girl, shielding her from the three vampires who were now entering the field.
Her eyes landed on the red head first. A smirk graced her lips, and her red eyes were narrowed on the large group. The man in the middle had dark skin and dreads. He seemed to be the leader of the group. Eleanor noticed he held the ball Jasper hit in his hand. Finally, she saw the last one. He had sandy blonde hair, tied back in a pony tail. His lips were curled up into a scowl, and he studied each of the members.
Eleanor glared at the group, and allowed a ball of scarlet mist to appear in each hand. She had a feeling these vampires were going to cause trouble, and she wanted to be prepared in case they attacked.
"I believe this belongs to you," the dark skinned man said, and threw the ball towards Carlisle.
Carlisle caught the ball, and twisted it around in his fingers, "thank you."
"I'm Laurent," he introduced, "and this is Victoria and James."
"I'm Carlisle, and this is my family. I'm afraid your hunting activities have caused somewhat of a mess for us," he said. Eleanor could tell there was a hint of annoyance in his voice.
"Our apologies," Laurent said, "we didn't realise this territory was claimed."
"Yes, well we maintain a permanent residence nearby."
Eleanor saw the obvious look of surprise on the vampires face, "well we won't be a problem anymore. We were just passing through."
"The humans were tracking us, but we lead them east." The red head - Victoria - spoke up, still smirking.
Eleanor's eyes landed back on James, who was staring intently at Edward and Bella. She looked over to see Edward glaring at the vampire. He must have been reading his thoughts, watching for his next moves, "I'm the one with the wicked curve ball."
She snapped her head back to Victoria in confusion. She must have missed some of the conversation, but assumed the three were joining the game. The three began to move back to the bases, when a breeze blew through.
Eleanor's hair flew back, and she squeezed her eyes shut. She quickly reopened them when she heard a deep breath. James' eyes landed on Bella, and he laughed, "you brought a snack."
The Cullens' crouched down in an attack position, and Edward hissed at the vampire. Eleanor brought her hands up a little higher, and stared down James, "The girl is with us. I think it's best if you leave."
"I can see the game is over now," Laurent said, "we'll be leaving now. James."
James stared at Bella a moment longer, before flicking his eyes towards Eleanor. His smirk seemed to grow as he eyed the magic flowing through her fingers. He met her eyes again, before turning and walking with his coven.
Carlisle was over to Eleanor in a flash, and he was suddenly pulling her behind him. He led her over to Edward's jeep, and he flung open the car door, "Carlisle, what the hell is going on?"
"I'll explain later. Go with Edward and Bella, and I'll meet you back at the house."
She didn't get another word in, but watched as he sped towards his car with Esme. She quickly shut the door, and buckled her seat belt, "Edward can you please tell us what's happening."
"James. He's a tracker. The hunt is his obsession, and my reaction at the field set him off. This is going to be his most exciting chase yet. He's never going to stop," he explained, and sped onto the main road.
"Well what're you going to do?" Bella asked, quickly glancing back at Eleanor, before returning her attention to Edward.
"We have to kill him. Rip him apart and burn the pieces," Eleanor's mouth dropped open, and she exhaled quickly.
"Well where are we going now?"
"We're getting a ferry to Vancouver."
"No! I have to go home," Bella exclaimed, "take me home!"
"Carlisle said to meet him back at the house. Take Bella to her house, then get me to Carlisle," Eleanor glared at the teenage boy, and he sighed.
"I'll tell him I have to go home. Meet me upstairs and start packing me some clothes," Bella planned, as they pulled into her driveway.
The couple both exited the car, leaving Eleanor alone in the back seat. She pulled out her phone, and opened a text message to Jessica. She typed quickly, explaining to her sister that she was going to drive Bella to Phoenix, and that she'd be back soon.
She didn't want to worry about what her mum or sister would text her, so she turned her phone off, and leaned her head against the back seat. Her legs bobbed up and down, and she kept looking out the window.
Eleanor didn't understand why she was so scared. She had been training with the Cullens' long enough to know that she could protect herself. She just wasn't ready to hurt someone, even if they could potentially kill her.
