"This isn't my fight, and I've grown tired of his games," Laurent stood in the Cullen's living room, explaining to Carlisle what he was planning to do, "but he's got unparalleled senses, I've never seen anything like him in my 300 years. And the woman, Victoria, don't underestimate her."
Eleanor - who was sitting on the couch - buried her face into her hands. Carlisle showed Laurent out the door, before he flashed over to his mate. He gently wrapped an arm around her, and pulled her face up.
"We'll get you two safe. He's targeting Bella right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if he went after you as well," he stood up, pulling El with him. The two began to walk to the garage, where the rest of the family was waiting.
"Carlisle, I'm going to run Bella south and lead the tracker away from here," Edward explained, and Carlisle shook his head.
"No, James knows you won't leave Bella's side. He'll follow you." Eleanor went to stand beside Bella, and shot her a small smile. The brunette smiled back at her friends, but Eleanor could see the look of confusion in her eyes.
"Jasper and I will drive them south," Alice stepped forward and looked at the worried vampires, "we'll keep them safe."
Carlisle smiled at Alice, and turned to Rosalie and Esme. He held a few articles of clothing in his hands and stuck them out, "I have a few pieces of Bella's and Eleanor's clothes. Put them on, we can throw James off."
Rosalie hesitated for a moment, before she grabbed a shirt of Eleanor's and a jacket. She slowly put them on, before she walked over to the girl. Without saying a word, the blonde hugged Eleanor, and drew back with a small smile.
Eleanor smiled at Rose, before she walked over to Carlisle, "you know I can protect myself."
"I know. I just don't want anything to happen to you. You are my life now, Eleanor." Eleanor caught Carlisle's eyes in her own. Her knees suddenly went weak, and she grabbed onto his arm.
Eleanor hugged him, tightly. Her eyes were closed, and she laid her head on his chest. Now, she didn't want to leave him. She wanted to go and track James down, and kill him so that he wouldn't be a threat to her and Carlisle's future anymore.
But she couldn't.
Alice cleared her throat, and Eleanor pulled away from the man, "be safe."
Carlisle sent her a final smile, and watched as she climbed into the car beside Bella. Alice put the car in reverse and sped out of the garage. She switched gears and suddenly they were off. Eleanor stared out the window, tapping her fingers on her knee. She could hear Bella call her mum again, and wondered if she should turn her phone back on.
"El?" Eleanor turned her head to look at Bella, "how did you know?"
"Same as you, I figured it out." She shrugged, and turned back to the window.
"Are you and Carlisle...?"
"Mates? Yes." She said, and smiled sadly.
Bella nodded, and the car grew silent.
---
After a few hours in the car, the four stopped at a hotel near Phoenix. Eleanor cursed herself for not asking one of the vampires for a change of clothes. She figured if they were gone for a long time, she could borrow an outfit of Bella's.
Eleanor stood near the window in their hotel room, watching the people socialise with their families below. She sighed, and reached for her phone. As she moved to turn it on, Alice gasped and Jasper rushed over to her.
"What is it? What do you see?"
"The hunter. He's changed course." Jasper reached towards the table and grabbed a pad or paper and an ink pen.
"Where will it take him, Alice?"
Eleanor moved to stand next to Bella, who was standing in front of Alice. She frowned when she saw Alice's hands move over the paper, drawing where she saw the hunter headed, "Mirrors. A room full of mirrors."
"Edward said the visions weren't always certain," Bella frowned.
"She sees the course people are on while they're on it," Jasper explained, as Alice snapped out of her vision, "if they change their minds, the vision changes."
"So, the course that the tracker's on is now gonna lead to him a ballet studio?" All heads snapped to Bella, and Eleanor raised an eyebrow.
"You've been there?"
"Yeah, I use to take lessons as a kid." Eleanor snorted. It was hard to believe a person as clumsy as Bella took ballet lessons.
Alice's phone rang, and she picked it up instantly, "Edward. Is everything okay?"
"We've lost James," Eleanor heard him say. She heard another phone ring, and watched as Bella picked hers up. Her expression turned to one of panic, and she left the room. Eleanor shook her head, and turned her attention back to Alice.
"Carlisle and I are coming. Rosalie and Esme are staying here to protect Charlie, we believe El's family will be fine. Let Eleanor speak to Carlisle." Edward spoke loudly. Eleanor took Alice's phone, and held it up to her ear.
"Carlisle?"
"I'm coming to Phoenix. Me and you are going somewhere alone. The rest of them will keep hunting but I need to get you somewhere safe," she heard him sigh, "I should've never let them tell you what we were. You would've been so much safer."
Eleanor laughed, sarcastically, "no I wouldn't have been, Carlisle. If I hadn't met you, I wouldn't know how to use my powers and I'd still be a threat to people and myself. And if I hadn't met you, I wouldn't be happy. Not as happy as I am when I'm with you."
Carlisle grew silent, and before he could say another word, Eleanor heard yelling in the background, "is Bella there?"
"No, I think her mum called her. She left the room." Eleanor frowned, suddenly wondering why Bella was taking so long on the phone. Her eyes landed on Alice's drawing on the table, and she gasped, "Oh, my God. I think I know where she went."
She hung up the phone, and snatched the paper off the table, "Alice, Jasper! I think Bella went to the studio."
The mates shared a look. Alice reached forward and grabbed Eleanor's arm, and led her out of the room. Eleanor rolled her eyes at Alice. She was getting tired of people pulling her along, when she was perfectly capable of following them herself.
The three quickly got into Alice's car, and Jasper searched for the ballet studio's address. Eleanor grabbed onto the back of Jasper's seat as Alice took a sharp turn and she closed her eyes. She mumbled a silent prayer, hoping that they got there before Bella really got hurt.
Alice's car slid to a stop outside the ballet studio. Eleanor threw her door open, and ran inside, She looked around quickly, and soon found Bella lying against a mirror with James in front of her, holding a camera.
Eleanor glared, and threw her hands in front of her body. A wave of scarlet shot towards James, and he was pushed away from Bella. The brunette girl snapped her head over to where Eleanor was standing, and her jaw dropped.
Eleanor paid no attention to her friend, and instead kept her eyes on James. He recovered quickly, and stood to face Eleanor, "Ha ha. I was wondering when you would show up. I'm guessing your friends aren't far behind you then."
He stalked towards her, and Eleanor raised her hands again, "come any closer, and I won't hesitate to use them."
"Well, we wouldn't want you to do that." In a blink of an eye, James was behind Eleanor, and her eyes widened, "go ahead. Save yourself now."
Eleanor smirked. She brought her hands into her stomach, and as her magic went through her own body, it hit James and he stumbled back. She turned quickly, and shot another blast of energy at him.
"Eleanor!" A smile lit up her face when she heard Carlisle's voice. She took another glance at James, who was still sitting on the floor, dazed, before she took off to her mate.
Carlisle rushed over to her, and took her face in his hands, "are you alright?"
"I'm okay. Don't worry."
As she reached up to touch his face, a scream echoed through the room, and she jumped back. Eleanor turned to see Bella writhing on the floor. A noise she had never made before escaped her mouth, and she ran over to her friend. Carlisle rushed over to Bella, and knelt beside her on the floor.
"Alice, tie your belt above my hand, and then go help your brothers. Edward, get over here." Carlisle demanded.
Eleanor grabbed her friend's other hand, and smiled down at her, "it's going to be okay, Bella."
"Carlisle! What do I do?" Edward was yelling. His face was twisted in pain as he stared down at Bella.
"You have two options. Either let the change happen, or you can suck the venom out." Carlisle explained, and he looked up at his son, "make your choice fast. She doesn't have a lot of time left."
"I won't be able to stop, Carlisle."
"Find the will to stop, son."
Edward groaned quietly, and grabbed Bella's wrist, "it'll be okay, Bella. I'm gonna make it go away."
Eleanor's eyes widened as she watched the vampire lean down, and attach his mouth to Bella's wrist. Bella screamed out, and twisted her body. Eleanor covered her mouth with her extra hand, and squeezed Bella's.
"Edward stop. The blood is clean you're killing her," Bella struggled to keep her eyes open, and a sigh escaped her mouth, "Edward stop."
A tear escaped Eleanor's eye when she watched Bella close hers. Edward's mouth was still attached to her friend's wrist, "Edward stop!"
