Eleanor's phone rang, and she rushed over to her bed to pick it up. It was late at night - almost eleven - and she was curious as to who was calling, "Hello?"
"Jacob just showed up at my house," Bella spoke.
"What?" El sat down, "what'd he say?"
"He just told me that he had a secret that he couldn't tell anyone. He told me to remember the Quilete legends."
Eleanor's jaw dropped, and she put a hand on her stomach. They were true - the Quileute legends were true. Werewolves were real, and Jacob Black was one.
"El are you still there?"
"Um, y-yeah," she stammered, "I've got to go. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
Eleanor quickly hung up the phone, and sighed. She ran her hands through her hair, closing her eyes and leaning down to where her forehead touched the bedspread. Why was she so shocked that werewolves were real? Vampires were real, and she could move things with her mind, for crying out loud.
Her phone rang again and she checked the called ID to see it was Bella again. She slid her thumb over the screen and placed her phone to her ear, "hello?"
"Before you hung up, I was gonna ask you if you wanted to go over to his house after school tomorrow?" Bella sounded annoyed.
Eleanor bit her lip, "yeah, I guess that'd be okay."
"Great, now you can hang up."
Eleanor snorted, and hung up her phone. She tapped it against her knee repeatedly. She hoped Jacob wasn't there. The thought of werewolves scared the s**t out of her.
---
Eleanor tapped her fingers against her thigh as she stared out Bella's window. She had been focused on going to Jacob's all day. Her teachers had yelled at her a few times that day because of how spaced out she was.
"Can you stop doing that? It's annoying," Bella said, and turned onto Jacob's road.
Eleanor shot her a glare, but entwined her hands together. Her leg still bobbed up and down, but Bella decided to deal with it. They were at Jacob's anyway.
Bella parked her truck and stared at the red house in front of them. Eleanor stared over at Bella with a raised eyebrow. If Bella was only going to stare at the house, Eleanor had to do this herself.
She opened the truck door, and began to walk up to the front door, "Eleanor!"
El ignored her, and knocked on the door. Billy Black opened the door, and Eleanor smiled down at him. She had talked with him a few times before, mainly when Jacob, Bella and her went inside to eat after finishing the bikes.
"Hey Billy. Is Jacob here?"
He flashed a tight smile, "he's not in."
Bella pushed past Eleanor, scoffing, "sorry Billy. I have to see him."
Eleanor gave Billy an apologetic smile, but followed after Bella. She scowled when she saw Jacob curled up on a small mattress.
"Jacob!"
Bella and Eleanor looked out the window to see Sam Uley and his disciples in front of the woods. The two shared a look, before they stormed out of the house. Eleanor slowed down, and watched Bella get up in Sam's face.
"What did you do to him?" She shouted.
A guy next to Sam snarled, and Sam held up his hand, "easy."
Eleanor was now standing beside Bella, watching the interaction between the human and wolf, "what did you do to him? He didn't want this!"
"What did he do? What did he tell you?" The same man asked and Eleanor glared at him.
"Nothing! He tells me nothing because he's scared of you!" He laughed again.
Bella looked at Eleanor with a look of anger on her face. Eleanor's eyes widened, "Bella no!"
It was too late. Bella's palm connected with his cheek, and she stood back with a smirk. Sam shot Bella a look, "too late now. Bella, Eleanor stand back!"
The man began to growl, and his teeth were bared. His breathing became shallow, and if looks could kill, Bella would be six feet under. Eleanor watched as he bent over and twisted his body back and forth, before shifting into a giant light brown wolf.
He began to stalk forward, and without thinking, Eleanor shot her hands forward. The wolf flew onto his back, but was up in an instant and now walking back towards Eleanor.
The pack looked at Eleanor in shock, "Eleanor, holy s**t!"
"Bella!"
Eleanor turned her attention from the wolf, and looked back at Jacob to see him morph into a sandy brown wolf. She realised it was the same wolf from the meadow. He landed in front of Eleanor and Bella, baring his teeth at the other wolf.
Jacob lept forward, and sunk his teeth into his neck. They fell backwards, and tumbled down a small hill into the woods. Eleanor glanced back at Bella to see her mouth wide open, staring at where Jacob once was.
"Get them to Emily's house!" Sam shouted, and took off towards where the two wolves went.
"Guess the wolf's out of the bag," this boy was shorter than Sam and the other one had been. He was just as muscular, with the same cropped black hair and tan skin. The same tattoo also laid on his shoulder. "Jared Cameron."
Eleanor smiled at him, and climbed into the back seat of the truck. Embry and Bella climbed in next to her. She reached over and punched Embry on the shoulder. It hurt her hand more than she wanted to admit, but she kept a scowl on her face, "that's for ditching us."
He just laughed. The ride to Emily's was short, and Eleanor was happy to be out of the cramped space.
"Come on in Bella, we don't bite," Embry joked. Eleanor glanced back at Bella, who was still in the truck.
"Speak for yourself," Jared snorted, and walked towards the house. Eleanor smirked and followed after them, "oh wait, don't stare at Emily. It bothers Sam."
Eleanor frowned, and looked at Bella, who had the same look on confusion on her face, "why would we stare?"
Eleanor's question was answered when she saw Emily. At first she was turned towards the stove, pulling out a pan of muffins, "you guys hungry? Like I have to ask."
She then turned around, and froze when she saw Eleanor and Bella, "who are they?"
Eleanor masked over her look of surprise with a smile. The long scars ran from the top of Emily's forehead and down to her chin. Sam must have done that, Eleanor assumed.
"Bella Swan and Eleanor Stanley. Who else?" Jared said, taking a seat at the table.
"Ah, so you're the vampire girls," Emily smiled.
"So you're the wolf girl," Bella tried to joke back, and Eleanor made a face.
"Guess so..." Emily smiled, "engaged to one anyway."
She emptied the muffins into a small basket, and walked over to place them on the table. The boys instantly reached for muffins, but Emily smacked their hands away, "save some for your brothers. And ladies first."
"You guys want muffins?" Embry asked, turning around in his seat.
"Yeah, sure," Eleanor grabbed the muffin from Embry's hand, and took a bite, "thanks. These are really good Emily."
The wolf girl thanked her, "leave it to Jacob to find a way around Sam's gag order."
Bella frowned, "he didn't say anything to me."
"That's a wolf thing," Embry began to explain, "alpha's orders get obeyed whether we want them to or not. And check it out, we can hear each other's thoughts!"
Jared suddenly smacked Embry, and El snorted, "dude, shut up! These are trade secrets! These girls run with vampires!"
"You can't run with vampires," Bella said, awkwardly, "cause they're fast."
Eleanor rolled her eyes at how terribly awkward her friend was. Jared scoffed, "yeah, well we're faster. Freaked out yet?"
"You're not the first monsters I've met," she said as Sam walked in.
"Jacob's right. You guys are good with weird," his gaze lingered on Eleanor for a moment, before he focused on Emily. He wrapped his arms around her and began to leave kisses all over her face. Emily giggled, and Eleanor's chest clenched.
The other boy and Jacob came through the door next, and Jacob pushed him through. He jogged over to the empty seat at the table, grabbing a muffin and turning to the girls, "sorry."
"Me too," Eleanor smirked.
The room turned silent, and everyone stared at Eleanor, "yeah, how the hell did you do that?"
"I can do a few things," she looked at Embry, and began to list her abilities, "They showed up when I turned ten."
"It was awesome," Jacob said. Eleanor smiled at him, and watched as he nodded over at Bella. Bella shot Eleanor a look, before following Jacob out the door.
"Yeah, but it'd be cool if you didn't use them on me," the boy said.
"No problem. What's your name?"
"Paul Lahote," he introduced, and grabbed another muffin.
"Nice to meet you," She nodded, before looking over at the door, "I should probably get going."
"I can take you home if you want," Embry said, and stood up from his chair.
"That'd be great. Thanks Embry," she walked over to the door, and turned to face the pack again, "nice to meet all of you."
"You too," Emily smiled, "you're welcome over any time."
Eleanor thanked her, and walked out towards Embry's car. He followed right behind her and they both got into the car. The ride was silent for a few moments, "thanks for the ride."
"No problem. Are you and Bella coming tomorrow?" He asked.
"I'm sure Bella will come over to hang with Jake, and I have nothing better to do so I'll probably come," she said, but then thought about Carlisle. Maybe she'd go and sit in his office again all day.
"So which one were you with?" Embry asked, suddenly.
"What makes you think I was with any of them?" she raised an eyebrow.
He just shot her a look, causing her to sigh, "Carlisle."
Embry hummed. Eleanor's chest was starting to hurt again, and she hated Embry for bringing them up. She had hoped the wolves would make her think of something else.
Unfortunately, she was wrong.
