Eunice Mariano
"Mom, this is Eunice Mariano, my girlfriend," Dovan introduced me to his mother. "Eunice, this is Destiny Montiverdi, my mother."
"It is my pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Montiverdi," I said, and offered a shakehand. But she only looked at my hand, turned to me, and to her son.
"Girlfriend? But, Dovan, you have a fiancee," Mrs. Montiverdi said to her son with a smile.
"Mom." Dovan said, trying to pretend to hide the truth from me.
"Is there something wrong?" I asked Dovan, widening my eyes and trying to fake a smile at him.
"Yes, Dear, there is indeed a problem. As you can see, Dovan is getting married and you need to end your relationship because you don't look good together," Mrs. Montiverdi explained to me with a sarcastic smile.
"I don't understand, quite well." I whispered, looked down and peeked at his mother with a smirk.
"What my mother is trying to say is that they can cancel the marriage." said Dovan, so I smiled even wider, showing them the happiness I could feel.
"That is not what I said, Dovan!" Mrs. Montiverdi shouted at her son and shoved him out of the way. She grabbed my hand, pulled me to the side, and glared at me. "You and Dovan cannot be together, this is an absurdity, showing up at someone else's engagement party."
My smile disappeared. I gave her the same look she was giving me. "You are making a big mistake, trying to push me away from your son's life." I said.
"What do you mean?"
"Mariano and Clemente's investments," I answered. She looked at me confused, furrowing her brows, pausing until she realized what I meant.
"You?" She asked and looked at me from head to toe. "You cannot do that." She whispered.
"Do you want to bet on that?"
"There are contracts in our agreements, you cannot just pull out investments on a whim."
"Yes. But the renewal of the contract is around the corner, right?" I asked. She was dumbfounded, she let go of my hand and took a step back. "The moment I call for them, they will immediately answer, and since I am their only daughter, I assure you that they will give me all I want."
"I cannot believe this."
"Why don't you make a call?" I dared.
"Excuse me for a moment." Mrs. Montiverdi said and walked out of me.
"Did I just hear everything right?" Dovan asked and walked closer to me.
"Yes," I answered, and looked down.
"You are not really going to do that, are you?" He asked. I laughed.
"No."
"Good." He said and sighed. "That will be a big problem for my family."
"Well. I don't have a phone with me."
"Yeah. I wonder how you would use it." He whispered while looking around.
"Someone's coming." I whispered to myself when I saw Rose in her royal red dress.
"What the hell?" She asked as she walked towards us. "What is she doing here, Dovan?"
I smirked at her. "I didn't know this was your fiancee?" I asked Dovan while staring at Rose from head to toe.
"It's all about business, don't worry." Dovan answered.
"Dovan!" Rose shouted.
"Eunice is my girlfriend."
"Since when?" Rose asked, angrily, gritting her teeth.
"Since now," Dovan answered with a smirk.
"Dovan, don't do this. I'm begging you not today, not at our engagement party. Don't be such a jerk right now."
"Me? Being a jerk?"
"Does your mother even know that she's blind? Stop making her pretend that she's not." Rose said, pointing her index finger at my face.
"So what, Rose? No one will believe you," I answered, and gripped her finger to put it down. She pulled her hand away from me and walked to Dovan.
"Dovan, the consequences of your actions could deeply affect the future of your company," said Rose in a hushed voice. "And don't think that I could not hurt that girl without you knowing," she added, clenching her fist.
"Hurting her would be the worst thing to do, Rose. Don't forget that I can kill you too." Dovan threatened Rose.
"What is happening here?" An old woman asked as she walked towards them.
"Rhina Rubio," Dovan whispered and walked over to me. "This young lady here is my girlfriend, the one that I love, and I don't think I can get through this planned marriage with your daughter, Rose, anymore." Dovan explained to Rose's mother.
"He's going to replace me with a blind girl." Rose whispered to her mother, gritting her teeth with anger.
"Dovan, pull yourself together, this marriage may not be about love, but love can also flourish in the process. Just give it some time. You and this young lady are wasting time if you go through with this relationship." Mrs. Rubio said to Dovan while holding Dovan's hands.
"Rhina." Mrs. Montiverdi called and walked up to her son.
"Friend, Destiny, can you please explain everything to your son?" Mrs. Rubio asked Mrs. Montiverdi. Dovan's mother looked at me and Rose's mother. She took a deep breath and looked down.
"Friend, this young lady here," Mrs. Montiverdi said, pointing at me. "Apparently, she is the only daughter of Eldon Clemente and Alice Mariano."
Mrs. Rubio was shocked and in awe of the information she had learned. "What?"
"And they are willing to give her anything she wants." Mrs. Montiverdi whispered.
"Are you saying that there is nothing else to do to continue this marriage?" Rose asked both mothers.
Nobody could answer. So I smirked and I looked at Dovan. He looked at me and winked.
"Looks like everything is settled here," Dovan said, and held my hand.
"We should go now. Thank you for your time." I said, and pulled Dovan out of the venue.
"You are incredible." He whispered as we walked through the gates to the parking lot.
"You are learning too much about me," I replied, and we both got in his car.
"I am happy learning." He said and drove off. We laughed and talked about what happened, until it was time to go home. "Let me remove it for you." He said.
"No, I can do it myself." I said, but he held my hand to stop me.
"You wo't be able to see it for yourself. Just let me." He said, but I held his hand to stop him.
"I will feel it for myself."
"I'll do it, so stay still."
"I'll do it, so stop insisting,"
"I'll do it!" he shouted. I stopped and looked at him furrowing my brows. "I really hate to argue and fight with you, but please just let me do it for you, Eunice." He said with a sincere face. So I stayed silent and let him do it. He held my nape, and tried his best to remove the contact lens from my eyes. I rested my hand on his legs to relax myself. "There, I can see your dead eyes again." He said and let go of me.
I sighed and looked at his eyes. "Take me home now." I said, and seated properly. He looked at me and laughed. I turned to him and furrrowed my brows out of confusion. "What?" I asked.
"I almost forgot that you were blind." He said while shaking his head. "We are already in front of your house."
I looked out of the window and immediately felt embarrassed. "Have we been here for a while now?" I asked myself.
"Here let me help you," he said, and was about to get out of his car, but I held his hand to stop him.
"No. You don't have to. I can do this on my own." I said and smiled at him.
" Are you sure?"
"Yeah. You can leave now." I answered and stepped out of his car. "Thank you." I said, closing his car and peeking inside.
"Thank you for today, Eunice. You don't know how much I am freed from all that."
"No problem," I said and stood straight. He then, drove off. I waited until I couldn't see his car anymore and then turned around to walk inside, but someone suddenly pushed hard and that made me fall on the ground.
"Dovan is mine, Eunice!" Rose shouted at me while walking to push me onto the ground again. I tried fighting her strength, but then Yasmin and Aileen got to me and held my hands. "Hold her tight and don't ever let her go." Rose commanded the two. Both of them nodded their heads and dragged off to somewhere dark and far.
"Let go of me!" I shouted at them.
"Sure," Yasmin said, and they threw me off onto the wet ground.
"Eunice, what did you do with my fiancee? Why is he doing that to me? " Rose asked. Walking back and forth in front of me, crossing her arms, and looking up. She sighed and stopped to lean forward at my face. "I just couldn't understand everything. How is it that you are not as gorgeous as me, but he took you to ruin our engagement party." She said and punched me hard on my face.
"I know, right?" I said, smirking. She then punched me on the other side of my face. "You punch like a kid." I whispered.
"Oh really?" She asked me and gave her two friends a nod, and they got closer to me and held my hand behind my back. They made me kneel on the floor. Rose then punched me again and again in my face. She didn't stop even after blood started spilling and popping on her knuckles. Exhaust didn't stop her from punching me hard, but I didn't give her the satisfaction of hurting me, because I would get my revenge on them. After a few minutes, she stopped. I closed my eyes and they let me fall on the ground.
"Learn your lessons well, Eunice Mariano," said Rose, and I heard them all walk away.
"I will get even with this," I said, and opened my eyes to see the night sky. I sighed and stood up. "Now? Where to go?" I asked and started walking. " I can't go home like this." I said and walked to Clemente's residence.
I rang the doorbell the moment I got there, but nobody answered. I sat on the floor and waited, hoping that somebody would hear me, until a car arrived flashing lights on me. The driver got out of the car and walked to me. I tried looking at the person, but all I saw was the flash.
"What the hell happened to your face?" Ryan asked. I rolled my eyes and stood up. "Who did that to you?" He asked again and tried to scan my face with his concerned look. "This is too much, did you get in trouble?"
"Rose," I answered.
"Why?" He asked. "Get inside the car." He said and pushed me gently to the shotgun seat. I got inside his car. "Dad is going to kill me once he finds out about this," he said while scratching his head out of frustration.
"Ease up, I'm not dead yet."
"Yeah. But you are clearly not alright. You almost looked like a zombie." He said and started driving off.
"Where are you going to take me?" I asked.
"In my condominium. I can't let father see you like that."
"Why? Can he kill them all for me?" I asked.
"He's a gangster too. A very strong one too, like your mother." He said. "So, yes, he can kill them all for you."
I smirked. "I can kill them myself," I whispered, and looked out of the window. We got to his condominium unit in less than an hour. He lets me in and he tends to all of my bruises.
"Don't come to school tomorrow," Ryan said, while putting gauze on my open wounds.
"You know who I am back in America, right?" I asked. He looked at me furrowing his brows, confused.
"Yes. But you are not allowed to make any trouble here."
"Yes, so buy me a mask."
"For what?"
"For trouble that I should not be taken accountable for."
"And what are you planning to do?"
"I'll get back at them,"
"No."
"Those who do bad things should be punished, so I'll give them a punishment."
