CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE From where he was, Roose heard a voice from inside the saloon shouting, “Now, Sefton!” just as a red-hot bullet shot harmlessly above his head. Reacting quickly, he swung Channi in front of him just in time as a second bullet thudded into the bank robber’s chest. Holding the stricken man upright and using him as a shield, Roose fired three rounds into the upstairs window from where the shots were fired and, pushing Channi aside, ran to the saloon doors. Half-a-dozen paces from making it, the doors exploded into a shower of splintered wood causing Roose to hurl himself sideways.
